Coup Rumors Swirl in Assembly

With a smaller caucus after election losses, but still with a solid majority, one wouldn't think Speaker Sheldon Silver would have to fear a coup....But Albany insiders are suggesting there is such talk. It may be just a story to fill a news hole and stir the pot...But the Speaker did face a failed coup attempt a decade ago at the hands of former majority leader Michael Bragman of Syracuse.
It is also known, Governor-elect Cuomo would prefer Mr. Silver gone.
Palace intrigue is always good for speculation, but who would step forward and risk the very public decimation doled out to Mr. Bragman when the coup fizzled.....
What would Addie do if such a scenario develops ?

When you voted for Addie Jenne, you voted for Sheldon Silver. Now shut the hell up about any of this. You people have no basis to even raise the issue.

Addie supports Shelly wholeheartedly. And who's to say the next speaker will any better?

Are you freakin NUTS. How could anybody be worse than Thugster? And of course Addie supports Shellie, she doesn't know any better. Since her days out of Whatever school she hasn't known anything different. The fact that she has the job is a matter of right party, right time. There was no intellectual component involved.

Right you are, Addie hooked up with "Right said Ted" and here we are.

Shelly Silver coup, huh? Oh, yee of short memory! Andy Cuomo, meet Mike Bragman. Mike you need to have a real LONG talk with Andy about what happens to anyone who challenges King Silver.

6:22,

I'm serious, the next speaker could be worse. We could have Felixt Ortiz who wants to ban salt in restaurants and shut down ski slopes who dont force their skiers to wear helmets.

Most of the NYC Dems in the legislature take a pretty dim view of private sector job creation and open government.

I don't agree with you, 8:42. Nothing could be worse than Thug Sheldon. The budget numbers are hidden, his income sources are hidden, he is arguably the most corrupt politician this state has ever seen. You don't even KNOW what that guy is doing. Felix Ortiz is a open crook. Shelly is a secret crook. This state will never recover as long as that guy is in that job. Even Gov Elect Cuomo knows it. I'm sure they are ironing out their territories while drinking run in Puerto Rico land. Addie, bring us another drink, babe.

Saul Weprin, Mr. Silver's predecessor was no better than Silver is now and whoever should eventually succeed Silver will be another fish from the same barrel.

Addie for speaker! She'ld cut the fat from the state budget.

Hey 12:37 if she cuts the fat she;ll eat it too.

A coup would be the best thing to happen to the assembly. Anything that would root out some of the long time thugs.
The next thug may think twice at least for a while.

Any coup would only lead to the same thing. When the Majority (Democrats) vote on who will speak for them, that one voice has to rule and do so sternly. Any variation of message or ideology leads to weakness. Hence, Speaker Silver has been a great leader for his conference. How would you do as the leader of 107 diverse backgounds and nationalities? Exactly! Its not that easy so stop whining.

I believe we have the Silversupporter back. Nothing wrong with that. Let's say you're right, 12:52. What I want to see is changes in rules and laws that require disclosure of outside sources of income, something that your Thug Sheldon has personally blocked. I don't give a damn if he has to consider the penguin faction or the Hooolio Indians. Bring some light into the little cesspool that is Sheldon's little kingdom. He hides all his dealings. Why does the public's business have to be such a secretive affair? Only crooks and Thugs behave this way. When you have the public's trust you have to be willing to takes steps to avoid even the appearance of impropriety.

12:52,
How about memebers speaking for their districts and voting their conscience, instead of blindly following the leadership?
