The call for marijuana law reform by Kristin Davis and others is less and less a fringe sentiment...The latest polling shows 46% now favor making weed legal. That's the highest level ever measured.
What I think this means is that there will be more and more public discourse on the topic because unlike crimes like murder or bank robbery, there is no consensus in society on what to do.
Opposition is clustered in the older age groups.
A legalization proposition in California will likely fail on Tuesday in part because of how the law is written.
Despite increasing support, this is still an issue the major party candidates want to stay away from as it places them at odds with the law and order crowd.
It will be up to third party candidates to raise the issue, and frankly I don't know what needs to be done. I do think the current duplicity and hypocrisy towards the substance suggests change will eventually come. After all, its only been illegal for about 80 years anyway...
New High of 46% of Americans Support Legalizing Marijuana

Does the technology exist to perform a roadside test of a driver's current impairment level after using marijuana?
I know a test can be conducted to determine whether the driver has used marijuana in recent week, but I don't think there is anything that can accurately measure the driver's current impairment.
Without that technology, the driver is at the mercy of police observation and society is unable to determine a safe and legal limit for driving after using marijuana, like the .08 BAC limit.
Cigs are worse than pot. And cigs can give you a high and impair your judgment, too.
Sure the technology exists to test for impairment.
Just use your brain for crying out loud.
Instead of absurd measures like BAC we just need to hand them a video game and see how high of a score they can get.
Of course the stoners spend all day practicing video games so they will have an advantage.
But honestly who cares if someone has had five beers or a couple joints if they can still drive better than your average senior citizen?
Hate to split hairs Jeff but normal people want to execute murderers and lock up bank-robbers for life, but there is no consensus on that.
Probably the same stoners in favor of legalization are in favor of a slap on the wrist for violent crimes.
Caffeine too. I'm just saying that marijuana impairs to a degree that is similar to alcohol and has a stigmatism too. For those reasons, I doubt legalization will happen until a legal limit for driving is agreed upon and it can be accurately measured at roadside. I don't know how that happens. Maybe a law enforcement agent can comment?
If it were legal and I was driving after smoking responsibly, I'd also want to be protected by a test that could verify that I am within the legal boundaries, without relying on police observation.
Police don't need a decibel meter to ticket you for a loud vehicle. It is discretionary.
And the insurance companies will have the final say on driving while high. Just like they did with the age limit going from 18 to 21.
We been smokin' the reefer for a good 40 years in this country, the grandkids of those '60s hippies now partaking of the weed. Looking forward to a couple hits off the bong in the soon to open Bongporium in the Arcade. Time to end all of our wars including the dumbest in history - our war on weed.
Light 'em if you got 'em.

Its not about what 46 percent of citizens want.. Its about the 54 percent that oppose it... Its about to boil down to a federal issue Owens is against it Doheny is for it plain and simple.. Let your better judgment prevail.
Interesting poll: Shows that 46% of us are stupid, ill-informed pinheads who fall for gimmicks (as if we didn't already know).
Dannie is quoting Bill O'Reilly. Isn't that on Fox? Can't have that. Not without a smearing of hate.
So when the dufus runs into your car because he is high do we just write the repair costs off to living in a stupid society? I can't think of any other explanation. Then again all the pot smokers will lose their licenses and not be able to get to work. But they don't work much anyway. So nevermind. I'm hungry.
How 'bout when they kill somebody? That'll be funny. You know, someone riding their bike or walking. Just call it a civil matter. As long as they don't kill anybody important. Most important people don't walk or ride their bikes. So that's not an issue either. If it's ok to be a dufus and smoke dope, then it's ok to drive, then it's ok to work, so you won't mind if the cop who answers your call is high, or the teacher with your kids, or the airline pilot flying your family. You want these people to be cool and have a neat mindset. No need for stress. You stupid sh#ts.
