Republicans are crowing that a request for debates from Sen. Darrel Aubertine is a sign the Democrat has internal polls showing him in trouble against GOP challenger Patty Ritchie.
Team Aubertine today challenged Ms. Ritchie to debates because their spokesman says no one knows Patty. But if nobody knows her , how can she be ahead ?
Republicans privately say their candidate will outwork the Democrat and that a revulsion towards the dysfunctional Senate will cripple Aubertine.
Debates usually change little as they are not telecast, although both sides have agreed to a joint session on the Jeff Cole program Public Eye on WPBS.
This will be a dogfight race as Democrats need it to retain control of the Senate.

Your right Mayor.. Debates are veiwed by few. Aubertine will eat her alive but no one really would know. I,m not a debate person but someone has to drag something out of this Ritchie. Her position on any problem. Her solutions to those problems. The same wave of change would probably put her in office that put him in.. Everyone had a belly full of Pataki and the GOP rule in this state.. Now it seems the Democrats face the same.. One thing that wont change is the Democrat control of the assembly.
Im not sure Aubertine would eat Ritchie alive. She did well in the 2002 debates and all she has to do is remind voters of Aubertine's voting record on taxes, spending, and Espada.

The NYC Dems have really hurt Aubertine. Which is too bad, as he's a good senator.
Aubertine has had 8 years - count them and nothing has improved only taxes are higher and NYS continues to bleed jobs because of their tax and spend policies. Don't buy empty rhetoric.
Ritchie was aweful in 02 in debates, and Aubertine is much improved. As far as the Espada argument, wasn't it Dean Skelos and senate republicans who first elevated him to the status of majority leader during the coup? If I was Ritchie I'd be afraid of dems tying me to dean skelos and pedro espada.
I agree 100%, we can get a read on Mrs. Ritchie and we can get rid of the grandstanding Aubertine has been doing.
The straw that broke the camels back when Aubertine gets a headline "Aubertine:400 jobs" due to the construction of a new Hilton in Watertown. Nothing like printing a down right lie.
Both candidates are pawns in a game of power, money and corruption. It is a sad state of affairs. Families and children are being hurt by this. Let's get back to taking care of each other. Think of all the money that has been spent on these races. How many jobs could have been created in the mean time? Why not take the money and create jobs? We are going down the wrong road. Where will we be in 5 years? I hate to even think about it.
Budget does not balanced and Aubertine continues to throw money around. These things will come out in a debate.
Debates won't help or hurt either candidate all they'll do is energize whichever groups people are in the debate hall. Darrel challenged Patty because he's down in the polls and he can turn out Union thugs who will stack those rooms and bully Patty supporters.
Stick to your guns Patty - screw the debates. You're meeting voters, you're out there plenty.

Anon 5:29, it is not Senator Aubertine's stance, which his is very similar to the Reps, it is the people he empowers, NYC. Their agenda is against what we stand for and they continually attack what little we have.
Aubertine view parallel those of most NNY but they are far from his fellow NYC Senators.
Voting for Darrel Aubertine is a vote for NYC.
