With the passing of the primary, the constituted committee of the Jefferson County Independence Party expired. The group had been in business a decade but decided not to resonstitute.
West Carthage Mayor Scott Burto says he has had discussions with the state party leaders about forming a committee and taking over the operation. Burto is now a Republican and his brother is an IP member.
The members of the former committee had been at odds with state leadership and there was a general malaise over the direction of the party as a whole.
Key members like John Rice and Tammy Bramhall are said to be weighing their options for the coming season.

The GOP's gain is the Indy party's loss.
Go, Scott, go!
Scott Burto leading anything is simply laughable...what a joke he is. Remember he's the Mayor of WEST Cartage...meaning he's relevant to...well...no one.
What exactly does the Indy party stand for? I don't understand why someone would belong to an "Independence" party that usually endorses entrenched incumbents.
It will take a public apology and/or explanation for the Trail Coordinator position for me to consider him anything other than an opportunist. I don't like opportunists. But maybe I'm being too quick to judge. I'm willing to listen, but I don't understand that crap.
The Indie Party, 9:26, is for those that can hold their nose no longer.
Another bartender leading the Way in politics. Remind me not to stop at the WW.
Who really cares what Burto does? Please stop giving him and Gray any attention whatsoever. A couple of crying and whining 3-year olds looking for any little bit of attention they can get. Talk about being irrelevant! You had it right! Irrelevant opportunist=Scott and Scott part deux! Someone please run against both of them and put them out of their misery!
Scott Gray is the only ONE on the County Legislature that seems to be thinking and looking out for the residents of this County. He is willing to stand up to the Good Ol Boys and rock the boat a bit when it neeeds to be rocked . That is not always politically correct with the party bosses but it is always right for the electorate.
Most conservatives tend to be independent but not necessirally libitarian. I like the fact that I can tailor my vote in NNY to reflect my beliefs. Davis is a tall drink of water and would have a tough time not touching both sides of a closet, but I like her. Unfortunatly I am going with Carl on this one. Good luck Kristen, maybe another time.

Whatever Gray. You mean that you are the only one grand standing and acting as a double agent for the Johnson family. Let's stop trying to fool yourself into thinking you are acting for the common good. You are not the Robin Hood you pretend to be. People are tired of it so please go back to peddling your petunias!
