You have to pay the newsstand price to get the complete story but the second of three in-depth profiles of the Congressional candidates is worth the read. This time its Matt Doheny, who apparently has held a desire to run for Congress for a lifetime and when Rep. John McHugh announced his departure in 2009, the Doheny family leapt into action. We are told of his intensity for sports and politics and the conservative policies he argued over at the family dinner table and while attending Allegheny College and Cornell University Law School.
The Sandra Lee of NY23 gets a mention as the paper identifies the Manhattan lawyer who is his girlfriend...or as they say in the Bay...his "old lady."
Doheny comes accross as sharp, ambitious, successful and obsessed with seeking this particular office.
From his fist bumping in the local Jreck Sub Shop to his 16 hour days of campaigning, to his sports theme (footballs), Doheny is 'one of the guys.' But he is also burdened with mental acumen and family drive that prevent him from settling for the success that most people find satisfactory.

The slick PR campaign has started.
I have a hard time remembering such an indepth, full page and a half coverage like this.
It is obvious who the WDT/ establishment GOP wants and will push. (His mother says he/we have wanted this job for years) ... (a second LOL). Funny why didn't he work is way up in the GOP circles?
His Wall Street name, fame and fortune aside (yeah, right, LOL) what else is new?
I want to hear the candidates, esp Hoffman and Doheny speak about and defend this:
From my blog here.
"A country that substitutes foreign labor for its own domestic labor through: (1) outsourcing, (2) offshore production and (3) Internet hiring; or a country that (4) transfers its wealth to foreigners to pay for imports; or a country that (5) fills up with welfare-dependent multitudes here illegally all the while it (6) squanders trillions in war with a
huge defense budget is a country headed for Third World status."
the category of this post is: A Newspaper In The Tank.
this was a nice complete profile of doheny MINUS any reference to his boating incidents. how convenient of the watertown dede times. i guess that makes it official...the WDT has matt's back.
mr. johnson: do you think we're all stupid?
PR pablum for the masses -- lots of heat but not much light
Lawyer v Lawyer. Not much choice. I'll vote for the accountant. By definition more honorable than the other two.
Anyone having such a hard time "remembering" such an in-depth article should look back a few weeks when the WDT ran their similar story on Hoffman. And there will be another one on Owens. They said they're doing one on each candidate. So can we forget the conspiracy theories on this?
This article left me with the impression that Doheney is simply an opportunist. What public service has he ever given? I appreciate the WDT providing these profiles...
yo 5:13.
if the paper does a profile on one candidate, they must do profiles on all. so your argument doesn't hold up.
despite completing this due diligence, the WDT still has its favorite.
johnson doesn't care for hoffman, plain and simple.
personally, i like doheny's work ethic. i think he would represent the district very well if elected. if he didn't the specter of his parents would hang over his head. and matt is too much a family man.
The Saint Lawrence River and Lake Ontario are important to our district. For that reason, I like the idea that Matt Doheny is familiar with our Coast Guard personnel and procedures.
I'm with Dannie, I hate this guy too. I would much rather have Owens/Pelosi running our district from San Francisco so guys like Dannie, who receive every dime they live on from the Feds, can have a nice comfortable future ahead of him. Again, this is so predictable. Any time anyone talks about cutting any spending Dannie goes nuts. And you won't find that kind of talk from Owens/Pelosi. It will be borrowing as usual. Can you afford to keep this spending spree going? Dan can, but its not his money. He gets his in the mail.
The issue here is Owens/Pelosi.
2:57 They think you should just stop your crying its nothing new. Watertown Daily Times has there own opinion if you don't like it you don't have to read it.I think he should make sure that his mother is on board at all times, Dannie is it ok to love your mother these days?Anon2:57 you want dirt just look under your arm pits you will find it.....
I read the article.. I dont believe it . Rather I believe its a story not investigated for truth rather a story given by Doheny and his family.. What I want to know more about is the accusations of him being gay which I might add I believe to a extent. I want to know more about his excessive drinking and partying problem.. Iwant to know the entire sstory about the BWI.. I want to know the truth about his feeling about wall st and its bailout and is that why he seeks this office. I want to know more about the woman that he now claims is insane and her problems with him.. I want to know the truth...
7:54PM, I'm not even voting for him, but I like him better than you. What does his sexuality or his personal relationships with women have to do with qualifications for office? Why such a busybody, soap opera queen?
juston:
some very cogent comments you made. i'm sure msnbc will be calling you soon to contribute.
"...if the paper does a profile on one candidate, they must do profiles on all. so your argument doesn't hold up."
Are you that stupid that you do not realize the paper is doing one of these pieces on all the candidates? Hoffman was a few weeks ago, and Owens will be in few weeks from now. You illiterate Hoffman/Palin types might better spend your time getting a GED and then vote.
He never said they were not profiling all three. He said they had to profile all three and therefor pointing out that they are profiling all three as evidence of neutrality is fallacious.
Is it true that they have to profile all three if they profile one?
758.. Its all about his honesty, integrity and everything else that goes into a congressman.. Hes got money and hes got rich friends on Wall ST. which he owes alot to. We dont need that...
The three-way race should be interesting but I suspect and expect the Dems will keep the seat. And the majority.
So this profile is too "softball" and makes it look like WDTs is in the tank for Doheny.(which it is)
In order to point that out better...what negative things did they say about Hoffman in his profile story? I recall the biased immature superficial petty introduction that started off by commenting on his looks. But I don't remember much negativity after that. Of course there is not much negative you could say about Hoffman anyway.
hello 7:51.
call mr. johnson. he'll fill your notebook with hoffman negativisms.
as for 9:47, your paranoia doesn't deserve a response other than to say that i am comfortable with either hoffman or doheny in the seat.
I want Dan Francis to just go away. Stop. Please. People just roll their eyes anyway. Do the world a favor and just stop. The few times I find myself agreeing with you i want to slit my throat. being the first to comment on any given topic is not a "leadership skill." Close the laptop and just move on.
Anon 8:57 - you'd like that wouldn't you? Got news fer ya' - ain't goin' anywhere.
Deal with it - or don't read and comment on my stuff. (p.s. I don't use a laptop).
He uses the mailer he gets from the Donkey party. Then fills in a Republican name. Hey, the man has time on his hands.
