Thursday Morning Fodder

Had a nice chat last night with GOP Assembly candidate David Forsythe who is running hard to wrest the 118th seat from one term lawmaker Addie Russell.
Mr. Forsythe had been in Cape Vincent for an event and it sounds like he is working hard on the race. Campaigns are about proving yourself so we will see how he does.
Independent gubernatorial candidate Kristen Davis is due to call the HOTLINE radio show today to discuss her bid. She is one of a passle of third party candidates.
Today is crunch time for Democrat Brian McGrath who is hoping an appeals court puts him back on the ballot after GOP lawyers successfully got him nixed over the wording on his petition. There are lots of these court cases trickling through the system across the state....Seems like this is one of those years when aggressive challenging is in vogue.....
Congressional candidate Doug Hoffman was on Capital Tonight last night....Most of the discussion was about campaign tick-tock....Polls, finances, will you get out when you lose the primary ? Hoffman says he is well ahead of challenger Matt Doheny, while the local GOP high command is predicting Doheny wins with 60 to 65 %.
What is increasingly obvious is that if Hoffman wins, the party poobahs will sit on their hands in the fall and let the seat stay in Owens hands. Lot of ill will between Hoffman and the chairs.
For all the talk of the Ground Zero mosque, the project is still far from being built, with the latest reports suggesting planning for the structure is only in the nascent stage.
The pesky mosque continues to dominate cable new coverage.

Its amazing that everytime you ask the old timers in the GOP who they will vote for its Doheny. Ask why and you will get the answer because my parties head tells us to.. WOW.. Any poll showing Doheny ahead is most likely taken in ABay or around the Watertown area.. Go elsewhere, anywhere else and it would appear that Hoffman is the man... We will find out soon.

I would be interested to see the veiws of Mr. Hoffman and Mr. Doheny on the issue of the mosque..

@735: I totally agree. The party chairs and doheny camp claim that Doug's poll is a joke, but why don't they release a poll they've had taken???
This 60-65% is just a number theyve baked up in their minds. No real, scientific way of supporting their claim

27(?) days...Hoffman will win.

Anon7:35 We will find out soon Hoffman has a better chance of seeing the return of Jesus before he wins the primary.I think we all know that doug is not well liked by Republicans in the 23rd.After all the put downs that Long and Ryan have spewed out there mouth. You honestly think that he is not gunna pay for that.I think he has a big surprise coming his way.Doheny wins big in the primary then Hoffman will take his i'm better than that attitude to the road to no where. If he does split the ticket again then he will just wither and Bill Owens sails to victory again on Doug.....

The news from Albany from what I hear is NOT good for Kenny B, and McGrath will be back on the ballot very soon, as early as today!

Juston, I agree with you 110%. Matt destroyed Hoffman in the petitions. I know that petitions don't matter come the elections, but I am curious to see if they consist of some foreshadowing.

11:35AM- it appears to me you're reading tea leaves- short of an actual decision by the judges. it sounds to me that people are making guesses based on the demeanor of the judges and the questions they asked. it is a dangerous business trying to read a judge's mind-much less five of them.

if you actually know thw decision, say so.

Based on what I see on the Court's website, no decision has been issued.

I'll bet my life this is a 5-0 ruling in favor of McGrath

But what will Ken do if he has to face voters???

I'm not so sure about the old-timers going for Doheney. I see a generational shift, with older Reupubs (65+) going with Hoffman, and Doheney getting the younger repubs. Doheney will have to get out the younger and middle age groups, as you know those oldsters always vote!

Maybe Ken will emerge from hiding after he is forced to face voters.

I've been hearing from lots of people today that the appeal went McGrath's way big time, and that his legal team outclassed Ken's.

I've heard from pretty good inside sources that McGrath prevailed.

OMG what is Ken going to do if he has to go out and meet voters and speak about the issues. Oh wait you have to understand them to be able to talk about them.

If this is all true, Ken is in big trouble!

Shucks..Blankenbush will have to get off his golf cart and work.

Doheny's campaign is completely crafted it is turning people off and it isn't even well crafted. Cliche campaign photos with kids. Throwing footballs at the parades. The classic hard work and family values story in the WDT. At least he hasn't suddenly gotten a dog, gotten married and had 2.5 kids for show. I thought the mention of a girlfriend was a good idea until I learned more there. Not Sandra Lee. Annie Wilkes maybe. Worst are the overly simplified campaign promises: Does he really think he can cut congressional pay in half? how about visiting every town in the district every year? does he ever plan on working or does he want to drive around all the time?

The guy needs to stop slapping backs and being fake and get real. The first time I saw him being real was when he fessed up to boating and drinking. But most of that was done by his campaign staff. Drop the old style campaigning and get out and be real Matt.

McGrath is on both lines...5-0 decision

It is Official. He is back and Ken now has to leave the Watertown Golf Course and do something.

AMEN!!!!!!

It was worth a shot for any lazy elected official to avoid an election. Now he is in trouble.

Doheny needs to stop slapping backs patting butts and kissing butts and keep working. His confession of the BWI was only given in part and the serious parts have been withheld. Hes obnoxious, loud, inconsiderate, boistrous, and most of all phony.. All while drunk. We dont need this man as our congressman. His dream team got DAve Martin recently to endorce him but Martin is little more than a memory whos family values went down the tubes . Then he left office to work the politicans in Washington as a lobbist..Now Doheny owes Martin along with Wall St.

to anonymous 5:03 -- it must be great to be you, since I assume you are perfect in every way and have led a mistake and regret free life.

521.. Nah... I,m not perfect never have said I was. I have a few regrets and I have made mistakes. But voting for Doheny will not be one of them.

Na he's just telling the truth.
