Crank up the outrage....a 17 year old going on 30 died after falling 22 stories while attending a Manhattan party....She was also a frequent attendee at a trendy nightclub called Tenjune...and she was the daughter of a Brazilian diplomat.....
The girl had a history of hearty partying and one wonders what her parents were doing in the way of parenting.
This young lady is one of many in the NYC club scene...underage because the law defines them as such....but still dressed to the nines along the rope lines at the clubs that may look the other way in order to get the desirable clientele in their club...Or they may have been fooled by the sophisticated fake IDs available in the city that never sleeps.....
There will be probes launched and charges filed, but little will change...You can go after the licensed clubs, but there are plenty of unlicensed ones...Plenty of people more than happy to have your 17 year old going on 30 at their house party.
It might be good if parents kept their underage kids at home as a complement to licensees living up to the terms of their license.....
For all the programs, task forces and stings, the effort at prohibition for young adults has proved an elusive goal.
Just last night a house party full of drunk teens on my block surged outside to acost some pedestrians....
Scary things happen when there is no supervision. Society defined them as children, but doesn't require anyone to ride herd over them.
Underage drinkers still trying to slip into Tenjune, where teen Nicole John partied before death

Read about this young lady. A priviledged idiot she was. Her parents had to know what was going on, as she bragged about being drunk for weeks on end. Are we supposed to feel bad about this? I know, let's sue the club and get some bucks for some lawyers. Congratulations on some fine parenting.

Everything north of I90 and west of I81 should declare independence. 52 American states, or 59 if you an obamanite.
Mayor, if you think I am going to "ride herd" over my 19 year old you are crazy....That's up to you anad the cops. Do your job.
Wonder if we'll say the same thing when we find out our daughter works at the "Tilted Kilt"?
As a good citizen did you call the police?
Good point about the Tilted Kilt. In my opinion we are setting our standards lower and lower and hiding behind economic development.

This defnitely isn't just a NYC problem. This is a sexier story because there's the drama of a rich diplomat's child falling from a high-rise.
The North Country loses just as many, per capita, as the city to underage drinking, and far more to DWI crashes. At least in NYC, people walk, take cabs, or the subway when they're trashed. People here drive home, and put others in danger too.
We lose kids to alcohol poisoning at Clarkson, SLU, SUNY Potsdam, Canton, etc. etc. almost every year. We lost someone almost weekly in the North Country from DWI crashes. Not just kids, but plenty of adults too.
I don't blame the bars. I think most try to check IDs reasonably well. I blame the stupidity of the people who get drunk without a designated driver, or who won't call a friend or family member to pick them up when they're sh*tfaced, or who refuse to call a cab.
God knows I have no problem with people drinking and having a good time. But too many people get behind the wheel when they shouldn't, and put others at risk. At least this girl in NYC didn't do that.
Parents need to do better at teaching kids responsibility and helping them apprecaite the consequences. That starts by setting a good example and not driving drunk themselves.

So, 11:45, its up to the police to make sure your 19 year old isn't a drunken slob? Nice job, Daddy.
Sounds like you've been doin' the job for a long time.
