AP: "Predominately White"

In the lead paragraph to coverage of the Glenn Beck rally, the Associated Press felt the need to assert that the crowd was "predominately white."
What's that have to do with the event other than the race baiter Sharpton was up the street trying to stir that pot? (By the way, 13% of Americans are black, so isn't any cross section crowd going to be "predominately white ?")

just a guess, but maybe it has something to do with the second half of the article's first sentence, which says that the rally was in part an appeal to "honor Martin Luther King Jr.'s message."

All the candidates the NYS Democratic Party is running statewide are white....
And there is a man running an independent campaign for governor protesting the fact...
But would the MSM routinely refer to the "predominately white" Democratic slate led by Andrew Cuomo ?
Of course not, nor should they...Such things are self evident for those who care....So it is with the crowd in DC on Saturday.

This is nothing new...in the liberal media's mind all Conservatives, Republicans and non-socialists are racists, homophobic, religious bigots.

They didn't even need to attend or view the rally, the story was written last week.

It's a wonder why Beck, Rush, America's Favorite Noontime Talk Show, and others are so popular. You guys are the only ones who tell the truth...

I was suprised to read ONLY 13% of Americans are black. It feels like it's higher...

Maybe, Jeff, that's because unlike your Teabageer friends, the Democrats aren't race baiting and using code words as part of their agenda.

If you can't spell Teabagger, you are one.

c'mon jeff, you're smarter than that. of course you're right about the "'predominantly white' Democratic slate," but how is that relevant?

the problem with beck is that he chose to make it about martin luther king jr.* and that he chose to make it about civil rights. he said himself, "This is a moment, quite honestly, that I think we reclaim the civil rights movement."

so how is it not perfectly reasonable for a news article to try to compare his rhetoric to reality?

*i for one believe beck that he originally scheduled the rally without any awareness that it was on the anniversary of the "i have a dream" speech. but once he became aware of that fact, he decided to fully run with it.

Don't try reasoning with Kelwit. Interesting exchange. Jeff takes his argument apart and Kelnit responds by calling Jeff dumb. Anyone who doesn't agree with him has his intelligence questioned. That's standard procedure for him. No surprise.

What you have to understand is Kernit and his ilk are very afraid of Teaparty types. Teaparty people question government, and Kelmwit loves all that govenment is and ever will be. It is his life. That's why, like Dannie, he has no problem with media bias nor with inventing "facts" as he goes along. We've all heard it. Teaparty people, who push for a smaller amount of government, are racist Nazi's who will kill you if given the chance. All doubtful conclusions. But understandable when you remind yourself that Kermit is a very fearful man. As long as media lines up as they have, I don't see reason for being so afraid. But if media starts to report the facts, there could be cause for concern. And that's the central issue of why Dannie goes beserk about FOX News and Kelwit thinks bias is just fine. I think both of them are over reacting. How are we as a nation going to ever reverse this trend where we continue to tax working people to give Free Stuff away to people who don't? Answer is, we won't. Teaparty is dead in the water. You don't have to lie about anything, Kermit. You will win this fall.

i think i'm just going to point out that a) what i actually said is that jeff is smart, but it's true that in this instance i don't think he's fully living up to that, and b) aside from that single sentence about jeff being smart, my entire response consisted of an argument about the matter at hand. quite different from crazy wingnut troll's approach, but i guess we all have our personal styles.

and i'll leave it to everyone else around here to decide who's dumb and who's not.

Does anybody know what he just said? As I said, he's very afraid.

Turn out the light, Kelmwit. They can see you moving around.

Hmmmm- seems I remember, on the whole, it was the Republicans who were responsible for passing most of the civil rights laws that benefitted the cause of black equality and it was the Democrats who fought fought tooth and nail to keep the southern blacks oppressed. Seems to me most of the "race baiting" and the "poor oppressed blacks" statements are not coming from the Republican side of the fence.

anon 8:16,
republicans can indeed be proud that lincoln freed the slaves 150 years ago.

but i think that's about it.

the landmark civil rights legislation of 1960s was passed under democratic leadership. this was at a time that the parties were much more heterodox, and there were indeed a number of southern racist democrats who were bitterly opposed to the laws. but as a result they all left the democratic party to become republicans!

Strom Thurmond comes to mind. Remember it was LBJ, the northern Democrats and the moderate Republicans that got that bill passed into law. And now the tea party element of the Republicans want to repeal it (Paul from Kentucky)

Some people never cease to amaze me. The Democrat party has claimed to be the party of tthe minorities and yet they have an all white ticket this year in the state (as Mr. Mayor pointed out). Now.... IF it was the REPUBLICANS who had an all white ticket, the Democrats would be having a field day and call each and every Republican a racist!!! There is such a double standard!!! The MSM has always been liberal, every since the days of Walter and Dan. They will constantly try to paint the Republicans and Conservatives of the world as racist and out of touch, but the fact of the matter is that the American people aren't buying it anymore. Watch for the pendulum to swing towards the right this year. Republicans will either take control of the House/Senate or come very close. I feel that NYS is too far gone to come back towards the center in one election. That will take a few more elections to even out.

Well BN, the Dems don't have to have anything but a white ticket. Their voting block consists of folks like Kermit, with a selective memory and who embraces bias in media, coupled with the huge and growing numbers of Americans who benefit from government hand outs. What did today's news report, 50 million on medicaid? It was fun to read Kelmwit's account of how Democrats love blacks much more than Elephants. I will congratulate him in that regard. All the programs the Donkeys have lavashed on blacks have done great things for them. Unemployment, crime, education, single motherhood, incarceration rates. Yes Kelmwood, you and yours have done wonders for blacks in this nation. You just better hope they never realize how much love and respect you've sent their way. If they ever do, they might just come knocking on your suburban door, or even worse, put a scratch in your Land Rover. Voting 90% Donkey might not be their reaction any more. My suggestion, if you win again this fall, and I give you good chances of doing so, continue to throw stupid money their way. And tell them how much you love them. Forget whether or not any of it actually benefits people. Then go to a party of like minded people and tell each other how much you care while ooooogling each other's design school headed 17 year old daughters.

Gee, Mr. Mayor - who said "Don't judge a man by the color of their skin but by their content of their character."?

Anonymous said...

That went out a long time ago. The only thing that matters to Libs is gender and racial politics. If the divisions don't continue, they have no reason to be.

I have to disagree with the mayor on this one. The rally was on the anniversary of the "I have a dream speech" which was a speech about the civil rights of blacks made by a black civil rights leader. It is celebrated by blacks. It is noteworthy that the mall was occupied by a rally of mostly white people that day.

OTOH it is praiseworthy or worthy of celebration that those mostly white people were in part honoring MLK at that rally.

As Jefferson said, the government that governs best governs least because those citizens govern themselves. It is only through our culture...our upbringing...our values that we can govern ourselves. Religion can and has played a large and good role in that, at least in the christian USA (Muslim dominated countries not withstanding). So Beck is right.
