I was watching Capitol Tonight sans audio at Pete's and I could feel the nonsensical presentation of how Governor David Paterson's vetoes are hurting the children...aka education...
A fellow who was executive director of the NYS School Boards Association was on and the "B-roll" of kids and the sub heads on the screeen told me the story without hearing a word.
It was the children who are the victims of the sadist Paterson.
After all it is individual programs that school boards say they will cut.....
Hear is the real story...If there is less money appropriated to schools, the districts will either raise taxes or prioritize their spending. That could mean eliminating a reading program or it could mean a smaller raise for administrators...These are in the private sector called choices...
Now there is this linked story from the WDT that says the vetoes are no big deal....Who are we to believe ?....Thank you , Governor.

Governor Paterson has been an advocate of cutting spending since day one. He's stood against his own party in the legislature and has done all he could to try to get them to cut spending. Any tax increases that he's had a part of have been because the legislature has forced his hand. If the legislature isn't going to cut spending because they're worried about their re-election, then, in these dire debt-ridden times, the only other choice is to tax. Unfortunately, that's common sense, but makes a decent governor look bad in the eyes of dimwits.
I really don't understand why people smear him. Then again, it's usually the opinions of ignorant T.E.A. Party types, who have more props, protests and propaganda than brains. So, their criticism is to be taken with a grain of salt and whatever eighth grade Social Studies textbook they decided was enough knowledge. :-)
Um…the only supporters Paterson has ever had are the Tea Party members.
The democrats are the ones that have attacked him from the beginning.
Even Obama got into the mix and asked him not to run.
No doubt because Paterson’s attempt at being fiscally conservative did not jive with the needs of Obama’s puppeteers (union employees).
I believe you have it exactly wrong, 10:22. You're first paragraph made sense, but your second draws stupid conclusions. You've obviously memorized the anti TEA party verbage but it doesn't jell with what you've sensibly stated at the beginning of your post. Patterson did do everything possible to cut spending. The legislature did what they usually do, ignore reality. They basically did what they did last year. They failed to address the spending side of our budget. Education spending has been at the center of this avoidance of reality. For whatever reason, our teachers have been able to avoid any of the questions that other portions of our government and economy face. These people are immune to facts. And their salaries continue to rise at rates mere citizens could only dream about. Then they retire early and enjoy free health care forever. It ain't a bad gig. But for you, 10:22 to go into an TEA party bashing rant makes no sense whatsoever. In an economic sense, those people would be in agreement with Gov Patterson and what he has been trying to do. There is a reason NYSUT, our "Union of Professionals" is so upset with his vetoes. It cuts into their milk money.
Yes, you would think that those who mailed tea bags to the White House would have supported Paterson because of his efforts to cut spending.
But, when he had to make the tough call to raise some taxes and revenue for a sinking state, because the legislature wouldn't cut spending, most teabaggers protested or smeared him. Why?
I'm betting on raising taxes, after all it's for the children, and the teachers.
7:17, if the TEA boys did that, I would place the blame on party line thinking, which I cannot defend. I'm with you on most all of what you said. Patterson has stood up for all the right things. I'm just not so quick to jump on an anti TEA bandwagon. Party line Donkeys and media and the teachers hate them. That's reason enough for me to respect a lot of what they say.
Anon 7:17 good point and the vetoes by Gov. Paterson is a direct reflection of the Tea Parties course. The problem the Gov. has which cost him his re-election bid were his unethical actions while in office.
Cuomo has Gov. Paterson right where he wants him. He has put him under investigation which has died since he dropped from the race and Paterson is currently doing all the dirty work before Cuomo gets into office. If Gov. Paterson was still running for election I do not think we would be seeing all these vetoes. Whatever the Gov. motivation is, it is working out for the voters of NYS.
I'm with ya, Poly. If we have to throw out a Gov every couple years to get some cuts happenin so be it. I just wish we had the same kahunas when it came to thug Sheldon. Maybe someday.
