I was chatting with some Republicans this afternoon at a social event and I have to tell you that while no one believes Andrew Cuomo will not be the next governor, it is also true, Rich Lazio is in deep trouble in the GOP primary.
Carl Paladino and his Mad as Hell mantra is exciting Republican insiders who see Lazio as the John Faso of 2010.
That's just my observation and I am sure there are plenty of cloth coat Republicans who will vote for Mr. Lazio.
This week's finance numbers show Paladino is in much better shape to contest a primary.
Meanwhile Andrew Cuomo meanders around the state on an RV, secure in the knowledge the mansion on Eagle Street is his come January.
What's going in your circle of friends ?...Comments please.....

I'm voting for Paladino. I don't really have a problem with Lazio but he's tried before and hasn't been able to get his message out. I don't believe it is simply a matter of money for him. For whatever reason he just doesn't create any fire. Paladino does. "I'll cut spending 20%". Nothing ambiguous about that. Can you imagine the heartburn among government lovers if a guy like Paladino won the Gov's job? NYSUT members, department heads, political appointees, bums, advisors to this and that and whatever. These folks would be pissed. And worried. Maybe, for a change, it would be their kids who had to move away.
".....Maybe, for a change, it would be their kids who had to move away.".... Bitterness should not be a reason to vote for someone. If you believe this charlatan will actually cut spending twenty percent I've got some swampland in Florida for you. This is just desperation politics a la Huey Long on a smaller scale. Paladino makes Long look like Socrates.
You shouldn't slight Faso. He was a good man. Had he been elected I think this state would be in much better shape. He was a good Republican, not so much this tea party crapola we have now.
Oh I'm not bitter. I'm hoping people like you control the process just a little bit longer,8:48. If a guy like Paladino got in there no doubt the 20% cut might be coming out of people like me. And I wouldn't want that. I'd rather it be coming out of people like you, and your kids. I'm with ya, bro. Vote twice as far as I care. May the Donkeys rule forever, or at least a couple more years.

The irony is that Paladino made alot of money off of the state..If Lazio loses;the Republicans should WAKE UP and let Mike Long and the Con Party go their own way.At least Ed Cox identified the problem .
Governors don't cut anything if the legislature gets in the way, Or weren't you alive when Paterson trtied it?
right on 8:43 now get rid of all the obstacles and lets get this state fixed. At least we find out when someone has nothing to lose they can make tough decisions. Legis with an election year will be to scared to make tough choices and piss people off. Ger rid of them and lets elect people with guts to stand up for us.
9:13, got to agree with you, on your assesment. We definitely need people with guts. Our current North Country crew doesn't have it; other than blow thier own horn's, and forget there is no "I" in team. However, I am willing to take a gamble on Paladino, maybe he is the second coming of Gov. Christie, of NJ. He has done a very good job in my opinion.
Rick, point on Christie gets it and rocks. Lazio seems like all right guy but does not really have a chance. Guys like Paladino may just be the ticket for us frustrated taxpaying voters. I know a few local pols that need a bat to there back ends at least.
I'm with your Rick. This Paladino guy could be just the one make them crap their pants. Instead of working people trying to figure out how to pay their tax increases, wouldn't it be nice to see all these teacher types, committee types, political appointees, and curriculum developers scrounging around trying to find a job that pays for their Volvos. Paladino would upset a lot of folks who have never had to worry about anything. Sounds great to me.
