I am at a little bit of a loss to know whats going on in Albany, but word bubbled up this AM that general objections may have been filed against Indy petitions for Assemblywoman Russell (118AD) and Brian McGrath (122AD). Also I hear McGrath's Democratic petitions are getting the eye.
In all cases, the candidates compiled numbers of voter signatures barely over the minimum needed and within a range where a challenge could eliminate enough signatures to leave the line vacant.
If that happens look for a quick, quick effort to field an opportunity to ballot petition to create a write in primary.
Just one caveat, filing general objections merely preserves the right to file specific objections. Sometimes its good to file generals just to rattle the opponent or give them some bad press.
In this case, it could be they are lean petitions, as the big effort for Dems was getting Senator Aubertine's done in the final days.
It is routine for operatives for the parties to peruse petitions as they come in looking for obvious errors or deficiencies.
UPDATE: McGrath Campaign has sent out a press release deriding Blankenbush effort to remove him from the ballot.

Uh oh Jeff, maybe your love affair with the Dem's was premature...now you better start kissing up to the elephants...
I just report the facts and if candidates did lousy petition work, that's their issue.
Is it true Patty turned in over twice as many petitions for indy as Aubertine? Mayor do you know? That would be a huge bash to the jeff cty committee I would believe.
I have no way of knowing who turned in what. Thats the job of the MSM.
I have said all along, I did not agree with having people do petitions only to have the rug pulled.
I think it was an evolving calculus and MacKay decided late that the state party's interests were best served by doing a couple marginal Democrats.
If you look at Pattys petitions she had McKay on her vacancy committee so I think initially she had the edge.
As for anything being a "bash", that's hardly the case. Except for some work I did, there was no effort put forth by party members.
Read your witness statements.
Why would that matter.. All the GOP loyals said on this site all week it didnt matter.. The Indy party didnt count..
You know that since George Bush lost the 2000 election to al Gore then got outlawyered this country has gone crazy at the polls.. Everything is protested, scrutinized, cried about.. May the best lawyer win folks.. I,m going to the Ogd parade Saturday and watch all the phonies perform.. Smile pose, kiss babies, kiss a--... Our next Gov. will be there, Our present Senator will be there, our present and next assembly woman should be there however she dosnt key on this stuff.. Our county clerk will be there.... I,m sure her staff will work the parade route with Dohenys staff He and Hoffman are not supposed to be allowed in the parade.... I,m not sure about Hoffman.. If hes there I,m told Doheny has hired a boo boo section in case.... Last year Nick Vaugh labeled the local politicans pathetic.. I agree.....
I don't know the total number of signatures on McGrath's petitions, but I know he was scurrying around Lewis County last Tuesday and Wednesday looking for signatures when the petitions were due on Thursday.
Maybe he needs to spend less time on "Facebook" and more time in the trenches working.
Although it looks bad from a PR standpoint, we all know it would be political malpractice not to at least issue a general challenge to those petitions on principal.
Addie and Brian really have no excuse for not running their Indy numbers up higher considering they got their endorsements early and could heartily lay claim to being the "endorsed candidate."
McKay kept us all waiting on Darrel and Patty so there is some more wiggle room there. Regardless of whether or not Patty's challenges are successful, she needs to look in the mirror and realize that she was lied to by just about everyone from Albany, Long Island, and NYC. As the Mayor has said, without the coveted Wilson-Pakula, she has no chance at getting that line on the ballot and a write-in primary will sap precious resources into September, Patty has an opportunity to reboot her campaign by jettisoning the dead SRCC weight.
Patty runs the risk of being cast as a sore loser if she challenges Darrel's petitions, especially when she has little shot of getting the line. But considering how she's been double-crossed by the Indy and GOP high command, what has she got to lose?
Brian and Addie, step up your game. If you rely on others to do the heavy lifting for you, you will lose.
Mayor, I'm sure you'll keep us updated.
Mayor, You stated you helped carry indy sig for darrell, addie, patty and mcgrath? Is that true and if so how many did you get for each? Just curious.
Since when has Addie and Darrell been independent??? They voted right along with all the other Democrats in the Assembly and Senate respectfully and helped get our state into this big financial mess! Thats not independent thinking! Thats the same old downstate politics.
Tell me what Mcgrath has ever voted for. Without an interview process this whole indy thing stinks. Reminds me to the jeff cty conservative guy what was his name anyway. Oh thats right he quit last minute who cares;
Tell me what McGrath has done- period. There is a big hole in his record. I want to know mhan "I went to the big city, made some money and came home to run for office." That's close to what we've been told. What has he done?
For the record, I'm from Lewis County and don't have a connection to Blankenbush so don't throw that at me.
McGrath is in his early 30s. Going to college, law school, and holding down a law job for a few years fills in most of the blanks. If my kids did that, and had a reason to run for office, I'd be pretty proud of them. I don't think holding political office is really an asset anymore, but intelligence and drive always are.
I follow Brian on Facebook. He is wonderful. Smart, well meaning and a fresh face. Oh, and for anyone who cares, today happens to mark the birthday and the deathday of his nephew - he posted a really sweet message on FB today. Perhaps you all can delay the unfounded attacks on this classy young man for at least one day.
Go Brian Go! We are with you all the way! Lewis County Loves You!
9:52 is right, Al Gore was really Prez, along with VP Johnny Edwards. Drug test time.
I love Brian too. He's wonderful. Lewis County, home of 3 million cows, loves you.
The only Pakula I know about was JoAnna Pakula. She played Doc Halliday's girlfriend in Tombstone. One hot chickie. Much more important than which wannabe signed a petition.
Why doesn't Brian McGrath's facebook profile list him as married? Didn't I see him with a ring on his finger a while back? I think I even met his "significant other" at an event.
Is he not comfortable protraying his position's on that issue in this district? I think the voters should know whether this guy supports Gay Marriage.
I'll try again. We now know McGrath went to school, worked for a while, has a reason (?) to run for office, is cute on Facebook and the lack of experience may be a good thing.
What "unfounded" attacks by the way? It's hard to attack a mirage.
Mayor, maybe you might want to retract that "UPDATE" you put up early this morning. I have not seen any such press release from McGrath...just wishful thinking on your behalf I guess.
642 - if you were running for State Assembly would you advertise in a rural district that you got married in San Francisco? McGrath and his "boyfriend", "husband", "insert-relationship-here" are just trying to avoid the issue as long as possible. It's not like they're going to tick off the Lewis County Gay Community...
A reporter told me there was a press release...I believe him.
So, then this same "reporter" should have his credibility questioned because no press release has been made public. Who might it be???
so mayor the question remains roughly how many signatures did you get for the people you carried? Darrel? Addie, Patty? Mcgrath? You must have some rough idea.
Yes Mayor, we would all love to know. Especially since Addie is on the verge of losing her Independence nod. Shows how much she really cares about getting the nomination.
