Poor Pedro...If only he had done the party thing when Dems took the State Senate two years ago. If he had just voted in the majority instead of teaming with slasher Senator Hiram Monserrate in the 2009 GOP coup that faltered when Pedro "came home" in exchange for the title (but not the duties) of Majority Leader.
Senator Pedro Espada could have blended in...but he couldn't bring himself to be discreet.
A string of scandals, including non-residency and the doings of his health care company have emboldened party leaders to seek his expulsion from the party of Andrew Jackson, FDR, JFK, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.
Democrats, who carefully shaped a mainstream image at their recent convention, know he needs to go...A primary is not a certain method in a district where folks might reelect Espada to send a message to The Man.
Dicker reports the Dems this week will seek removal from the party rolls....The Big Tent doesn't have room for this kind of embarassment.
A subsequent Liz posting says Bronx Democrats deny knowing about the ouster bid.

Let me get this straight. Espada needs to go, but Schmmeldin Silver is just fine. I'd rather have an wavering, inconsistant thief than and consistant, lying, back door dealing thug who costs this state much more.
ALBANY -- State Democratic leaders, disgusted with scandal-a-minute Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada of the Bronx, will move to oust him from the party.
Note: I called for his removal last year when he first started acting up and I said that Aubertine should stand up to him back then, too... he did not... that shows a distinct lack of vision and leadership... period.

Well, if this does indeed happen; then that's just one of the many that should go. Next should be Shelly, then start removing the wimps who supported them.
see there obsessive it's being a crook- it's about your view of politics. get help soon. OCD is readily treatable.
If you think back, Dan, the reason you called for Espada's ouster was his flip-flopin' on party loyalty. You had no problem with his lies, his theft, his bilking money out of the taxpayers to run his health care scam. You've been more concerned about his lack of party line thought. Disappointing.
A hollow gesture at best. Now that the legislature is out of session, they no longer need him and are willing, only now, to jettison him. It would have been much more convincing had they rejected him last June during the "coup", and let the Republicans keep him. Both parties were willing to sell their souls to corruption and outrageous criminal behavior (remember Monseratte).
Neither party has any claim on moral backbone and, even Mr. Graham agrees, his party is utterly irrelevant and stands for nothing. The only important quantity in politics today is power. Not power to be a positive force in our state or nation, but rather power to be feigned over and get perfunctory standing ovations.
It's too bad that our politicians can not heed the admonition of our Lord: "For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"
Anony 6:35> Excuse me... I damn sure don't need you to try and define what I said or what you think I said what you want people to think you somehow know what I said.
I called for his ouster not for party unity or loyalty at all... you are flat out wrong and so was Espada to try and gain/keep power the way he did and for those in Albany who backed him (you know who) well ... they need to go, too.
Leadership is more than a title... sadly most in Albany (you know who) can't even spell the word.
Dan, your response to Espada came immediately after his defection to the Elephants. You ranted about that move being wrong, not the theft, the corruption, or the misappropriation of public funds. I can understand you getting mad about me calling you on it. Point being, there is nothing more important, to some, than party loyalty. If this Espada dude had not been disloyal to the Donkeys, we wouldn't even be talking about him. He would just be another NYC thug, like Spitzer, who conducts himself in a sleazy manner.
