You Go David !

Governor David Paterson told a radio audience this morning that he regrets not running for election this fall and challenging Andrew Cuomo in a primary...But he says the time has passed and he is content to be a lame duck....
Actually, it is his lame duck status that frees this Governor to do what he thinks is right. Now he is using the veto stamp and keeping the heat on lawmakers.
David Paterson will likely never run for office again, at any level. Freed of the shackles of candidacy, he can make his last six months memorable and leave a legacy of fiscal responsibility no recent governor can lay claim to.

I agree the Governor despite earlier challenges has recently displayed the ONLY leadership in NYS government . My cynical side surely hopes that this wasn't some "pre- arranged ' scenario designed to allow our local Senate and Assembly types say "gee we tried but Big Bad Dave came down with the Veto Hammer , we really are Good Guys "

Nah that would Never happen ----riiiight

With a pair like he's showing it's no wonder the ladies love him.

The idea he is not getting re-elected has given him the power to crush the toes of legislators.

I do applude his efforts.

I do not know about pre-arranged, but my thoughts all along have been centered on our legislative branch pointing the finger at the Governor, when it comes to budget cuts. It wasn't me, it was him. If Addie or Darrel read this blog, can either one of you explain what the money to be restored to education was for? Bet you can't!

Poly is right. The Gov deserves credit for standing up and fighting for us.

Rick, the reason the money is being added back for the teachers is it was never intended to be cut in the first place. That was all one of Schmeldin Silver's lies. The teachers own Shelly and Shelly owns the rest of them. Now that the money is being restored, which months ago I said would happen, we can expect Channel 7 to do retractions on their endless series of stories about education cuts. Now Channel 7, I ask you to fill us in on how this is going to work. As the North Country's Finest I rely on you to wade through all this pablum. Will all these layoffs you told us about NOT happen? Was all this just a propaganda ploy by the education unions? Did you suspect this was going to happen, as it has year after year after year? Ah, just curious. There are lots of thunderstorms going on so if you don't have time to cover it I completely understand. Maybe the WDT can spare a paragraph or two. They pretty much took the bait earlier this year as well. Carrying the teachers' water has got to wear on your back after a while.

Before everyone gets too breathless about Mr. Patterson's courage, let's just remember he was proposing more taxes on everything short of Uncle Waldo's pet rock. However, at least he's vetoing spending after he couldn't get the extra taxes to support the spending.

And he deserves the credit for vetoing that spending. He is the first to have the nerve to do it. Schmeldin won't sit still for this. He will find a way to steal the money and get it to his friends. I have complete faith in the thug.

Still waiting for that Channel 7 story. Mr AAAAtkinson, or Mr AAAtkinson. Where are you? What about all these teacher layoffs that aren't going to happen now. Mr AAAtkinson.
