Take That Patty Plate !

Senator Darrel Aubertine says he has brought home the bacon to the Maple City with a budget deal to ensure continued operation of a state prison in Ogdensburg. In a release, Aubertine says language will be in the budget deal expected to be complete by the weekend. The proposed closing of the facility had sparked community concerns over jobs and a lobbying effort by Mayor Bill Nelson and GOP Senate hopeful Patty Ritchie.
It had been suspected the proposed closing was a red herring that would allow local Dems to save the day, but nonetheless the move will play well in Greater Ogdensburg where Ritchie lives and was hoping to run up the score in her favor.
I don't know if keeping facilities open for the sake of keeping them open appeals to everyone, but it will certainly allow Senator Aubertine to be seen as a player in the corridors of power in Albany.

This is a charade --when the election is over and the economy worsens and the stimulus $$ are no longer in the budget we'll see the situation worsen and it'll be round 2 of this issue . Don't let ANY of this nonsense fool ya -- incumbents will be toast in November. I live in the Burg and this is not news

Work for us Aubertine instead of grandstanding in an election year. Don't think we will forget your absence from the public before.

You two live in the burg and I'm typing this post from the Caribbean. Aubertine and Ritchie are two duds.

Ya mean OCF not the CARIBBEAN don't ya !! FWIW most politicians are duds or they'd have REAL jobs

Michael Powers where are you.. I knew Darrell would come through for you in the end. I think you owe him at minimum a thank you.. You more than anyone have critized him and chastised him and tried to make him look bad when he really has your best interest at heart. Now all you have to do is get on board with the citizens of your community who voted for you and try and help them.. Break away from Nelson and be part of the future of Ogdensburg and not the problem with Ogdensburg..

Patti Ritchie knew her place during the Ogdensburg Crisis. She attended meetings but really stayed low keyed. This will neutralize her run up the vote she hoped for....

yea yea the two amigos saved the day.No idea it would close or did they. Seems like pretty cheap advertisement for a party that is a little cash strapped. Just put the working people out for a bit get the community involved by fear and then ride in to save the poor souls. Now do you really think they looked out for our best interest? Why did the majority have no idea it was happening? Don't you think there should have been a little phone call prior to announcement by somebody?
Now Chuck can sunday have the headlines with photos and the 2 amigos will jump to we saved you. Are you really sure people in the north country are that far out of touch. Not us. Election years bring out people you never hear much of any other time. By the way, save the taxpayers some money while you are doing your free election mailings. Majority end up in the trash at our expense. Get out and work for these seats instead of sitting on them I think you are going to need to.

Senator Aubertine has burnt all bridges with the city Democrats. If they stay in control this November there will be an all out attach on the North Country. Gouverneur Correctional Facility just shut down another dorm. Five more jobs down the drain.

When was the last time they shut down anything, let alone a correctional facility, in a majority senator's district. This charade played out well in an election year. The only way to save the correctional facilities in the North County would be Senator Aubertine switching sides or electing Reps into the majority in the Senate.

anom 604.. Nah they dont need to. Trouble is there is nothing to vote for so why change anything. A few more Republicans in the minority will get less than we get now and common sense should tell you so.. Start changes at the local lever. Get rid of the likes of what sits on the Ogdensburg City Council. Get rid of the board of legislators and I include Forsythe. He is in the monority there so its easy for him to say no to everything with no solution of his own. Ive been reading into the union thing with the County and the unions seem to be willing to make concessions. The County isnt. They want it all there way.. And guess what Forsythe leads the way.... if Forsythe worked in a majority atmosphere he would have the same results as the present people..

what someone said no to a union and thats a bad thing. You are not thinking clearly here so let me help. Minority does not have much control but still should shout loud and gain attention. Majority has the gravy and controls the way govt functions. Meanwhile county is broke talking 6-10 million short for next year and people want raises to boot. State is 9 bill yeah thats right 9 bill and who is fixing it. Schools have adopted budgets with verbal assurances. Mental health is next and where will it end. Oh yeah tax cigarettes that will help. I really don't give 2 craps about forsythe or anyone else but I am sure they have to be better than what we got. Oh gun crap too. I know the republican extremist can't lose there rights? Wrong. Leave our guns alone....

spot on anon 7:35 I want a rep that stand up for me one of us not a tag along follower. This state sucks people dry and they are fed up. County/state level all dems that want to give everything away with no accountability. It is easy spending money if it is someone else.Show me a success story locally or anywhere. Thought so. The gun thing was a joke as well lets just go along with the flow. Oh thats right lets waste our time on bull---- issues and leave the budget alone. Great leadership.

There you go again Poly.. spread your shi-. You have no idea what you are talking about.. You and I do not have any control over NYC or any of its represenatives. Republican or Democrat they out number us they outvote us and they run the state. So you are saying that a mojority of Elephants from NYC would change things. I agree to the worse possible senerio possible. Make sense will you

Polly want a cracker... I trained one years ago to say cute things. Someone trained you in total nonsense. You dont make sense o nly to the Republican old guard. Its not going to happen

Oh Anon 500, not to worry I'm here. I never said that Darrel did not do anything. I more than you know what he did. He introduced and pushed hard a resolution in his conference that said The democrats in the Senate would not support a budget with OCF slated for closure, much like the one the Repubs always support for us, have you conveyed your thoughts about the facility to him??
Now Anon at that time, Hiram Monseratte was being ousted from the Senate which brought a vote to 31 to 30 in the Senate, in his defense he held his conference hostage and received the support of the city Dems. this was in early March, just before the City Rally March 12, I personally face to face thanked him for his help and also to Addie for her very loud vocal oppposition to this closure.

Make no mistake the community as a whole under our Mayor's task force, the emails, hand written letters, along with thousands of supporters who made phone calls to our state representatives from the citizens of Ogdensburg and the surrounding area saved this facility. Darrel and Senator George Maziarz and his Legislative Director Matt Nelligan along with a multitude of State Senators and Assembly people were all of great assistance. Darrel did not save this facility on his own.
Now Anon 500 You CALLED ME OUT under the blog of Massena Dissolution last week and you did it again on this one, the very least you could do is put a name on it!! I have an Email if your are so concerned send me an email under a quise if you must, you see most of your elected respond to their constituents, much to your dismay it saved a prison, now didn't it!!!
I understand that many have to leave the area for our occupation due to the lack of quality jobs in our region. I have twenty years with the Dept of Corrections and currently work in the Bronx. I took a promotion two and half years ago so I know what is like to be away from your family and home.
The state has authorized 18 new training academy's for this year, three of which are in session now, take a quess where the recruits are coming from??? All North and West of the Thruway.

Mr.Powers I am up late so I figured I would say thank you for the job you do in dealing with New Yorks Law breakers...Mr.Aubertine is man who some people think very highly of.Myself I look at him as just some guy from Cape vincent that started out to make a difference in the size of his wallett. Now I think he is in there
and has become a man that many in state government should look up to.I say that becouse I have had my difference of opinion with him and most of the time it works out his views are not that far from the right. He is a caring man I truthfully believe that. With all that said he has not saved nothing He is doing what he is getting payed for speaking for the people representing us the people of 48th
The sounding of the horns was a few years back and things are going to get worse so buckle up and get right with the Lord.I have had some minor rubs with the law but have been blessed not to have to sleep in your jails for more than A night to sober up.Anon500 MR.A is nobodys Idol get off your knees.... think ill vote for Patti maybe I will just fall off the wagon and get drunk and forget to vote....

Addie Russell was out in front of this issue from the beginning and gets little or no credit. Why?
She organized the Town Hall meeting at the high school. She did tons of heavy lifting and spent political capital in Albany to prevent this action.
Just because Chuck Kelly ignores her doesn't mean everyone else should. Ask anyone from the unions who stood with them and they will tell you Russell did every step of the way.

Michael Powers.. I never called you out on anything about Massena last week. I never called you out about anything except once in reference to the negative four lane hwy vote. You explained yorself and while I dont like your vote I accept your explanation as you did vote for it further down the road.
I for one voted for you three years ago. At first you were independant and voted independantly for what you believed in. In the last few months you have become a shadow of the mayor. Your vote on the greenbelt road was disappointing to me and many others. The lates issue with Chadwick reality leaves much to be desired however you took some real interest.. The city stance is wrong. Mr. Wells is correct and councilor Shollette is correct they should be put out immediately if they are not zoned. Scoria takes Allison on her word.. She gave her word to be out. Shes not and thats the facts. These things are the problem with the Burg. If your somebody, the citywill dance all day for you. If your not in the in crowd things are done immediatley.. No one called ;you out, rather I and others want you to start thinking outside the Nelson thought waves and acting like you really care..

Long term nobody "saved" anything but there own selfish interests . The fact are prisons are experiencing declining populations and to we taxpqayers who have no one in the family on the payroll , they are EXPENSIVE labor intensive , moderate skill environments with little return on the state taxpayers "investment " If monitoring felons needs to be done invoke the use of more technology and reduce the cost ineffective labor intensive approach . or privatize these facilities .

The salary overhead for the skill set required and the formal education required seems grossly out of sync . reviewing the payroll data on line and the commensurate fringe benefit and retirement packages substantiates sthe fact that a major overhaul or systemic change for DOCS is LONG overdue

It requires little or no education be be a jail turnkey. So over the years turnkeys become Corrections officers sounds better and more expensive. Pass a civil service test today and a mental evaluation that a dog would excell at and your in. Sit in a dorm reading papers and books and once in a while have to check on everyone. So why is the pay so high.. The union got in bed with Pataki years ago and made this possible. Then they passed legislation to keep these facilities from privatizing easily.. Of course the unions in turn kept Pataki in office.... Now that all the expense is catching up to us and the talk is downsizing and eliminating not needed facilities its Darrells and Addies fault.. I understand the argument about downstate prisons and that only prisons upstate are being targeted however that goes with being outnumbered and outvoted by population numbers.. The bottom line is that prisons have to be redefined as to their place in our society... We cannot keep supporting the running of these facilities when the inmate population is decreasing.

Spot on ! A major system overhaul is needed does the nys lEGISLATRURE AND THE ALL THE POLITICOS Have the courage to do the necessary downsizing ? The weaklings that are in office now are OWNED by the special interests so its time to REMOVE them and replace THEM WITH citizen servants WHO WILL right size the DOC and mANY OTHER STATE AND QUASI - STATE ENTITIES AND GET THIS TRAIN BACK ON THE TRACKS

Anon 8:15 the only balance was when the Republicans controlled the Senate. Just about every legislator from NYC is a democrat. That is why we had a little more representation when the GOP checked the liberal agenda of the Democratic controlled Assembly.

Gun control, not releasing violent felons or B Felony drug dealers, farming issues were kept in check by the Reps. There are no checks and balances with the City Democrats controlling Senate, Assembly, and the Governor.
