Public Authorities: Close ‘em down - Capitol Confidential

A source of high paying patronage jobs may be threatened if some lawmakers have their way...A bill is on the way to pick the low hanging fruit and eliminate 129 public authorities ranging from parking authorities to operators of civic centers and local economic development agencies. There will be howling from those who have burrowed deep into these agencies.
I didn't see any on the list from around here...But there must be some somewhere.

This has been a long fought battle and way over due. Most of the authorities are a burdon on the tax payer, some are in name only, and some are money makers for the state. 129 public authorities is a start when there are over 700 in NYS.
Time will tell how sucessful they will be. I will believe it when i see it sounds like another shake and bake move.

Yes, it's about time. I have looked at the list and there is a lot of duplication, of supposed ,effort. 129 is a start, but I can see at least another 300. How many of these agency heads are double-dippers?
