Today Dave Mance stopped by and was all aflutter about a gathering of the elite this Sunday at a St. Lawrence River estate to raise money for.......Democratic Congressman Bill Owens.
A year ago Dave didn't know who the Plattsburgh attorney was and now his cooing over him borders on a man crush.
Remember when guys like Dave just routinely signed up as Republicans....Now Dave is a Republican In Name Only (RINO).
Dave and his wife are each paying $200 each to rub elbows at the home of a Mark Yenawine, who Dave says used to own Eastern Ambulance in Syracuse...
The tony section of the river is known as 7 Islands and most of us won't be going there soon.
According to Dave there are a lot of prominent Republicans attending although he provided no names.
Despite the fussing by Dave, this is not really high dollar....In the Hamptons folks would be maxing out at $4800 a couple....Dave says he doesn't like the Congressman that much.

DeDe isnt the only GOP who will support Mr. Owens. He has been very impressive during his year in office... Have you noticed that when Doheny dogs attack him its usually aimed at Nancy Peloci.. Use and unpopular figure and tie the canidate to them.. Much like tying Doheny to DeDe.. After he contributed so much last year to her campaign he most certainly showed he was supportive of her and her ideals... Possibly this could work with Pelosi.... Owens is the canidate with the North Country interests at heart...
But unfortunately, 7:11, Nancy Pelosi is what this election is all about. If you haven't noticed, we are hopelessly in debt and spending money like there is no tomorrow. In fact, there won't be. We are already admitting that the health care fiasco, that Owens bent over for, will do nothing but cost money and damage our delivery system. Most of the country wants it repealed. Guys like Dave don't care because their wives get Free Stuff healthcare provided by the teacher union. Theirs will last a lifetime and will not include those pesky co-pays we all worry about. We have a Social Security bomb headed our way, which will only be discussed AFTER the fall election. This carefully planned by the Great One. In short, we have some financial doozies headed our way that simply raising taxes will not address. But that has been Pelosi's standard response to everything. And since Owens has been there, it has been his knee jerk response as well. The last thing in the world we need is more of the same.
You're right we are hopelessly in debt, and the Mance Man wants to get extra money for the hospital, Maybe a job in his office.
How's everyone like their healthcare prices and it's quality? Anyone?
7:36,
Pelosi has been speaker for 3 1/2 years and my federal taxes have not gone up. State taxes and school taxes, yes.
But, federal taxes no. In fact, you have to be back before WWII to find a time when federal taxes were so low. One half of all households don't pay federal income tax. It's time to raise federal taxes.
11:37 Slowly now, just for you. Spending has gone up at a fearsome rate. Despite all this stimulus money, nothing has changes. Unemployment has not changed, except for temp federal workers counting illegals, why I don't know. But when spending goes up dramatically, taxes have to go up dramatically. Or, uncontrollable deficits go up dramatically. That's what we're seening now. That's why your Great One's next step will be a Value Added Tax, something that will make us a stagnant economy for generations to come.
And one more thing. The reason half of households pay no income taxes is because you Donkeys told continuous lies about the rich "paying their fair share". It has now gotten to where working people are screwed. And you answer is to screw them some more with more taxes? Smart. But it might work, politically. That 50% who pay noting will certainly vote for it.
Mikey Moore
slowly, now just for you 11:37pm, a lot changed. had the spending noy taken place, unemployment would have been much worse.
we would not be worrying about"ballooning deficits" if it had not been for the elephants "spend but don't pay" policies for eight years of Dubya.
just the truth
anon 11:37/11:09 is right about everything. i'm too lazy to hunt down the original link, but this post from matt yglesias has a beautiful chart from cbpp explaining the structure of the projected federal budget deficit over the next ten years. as you can see, the contributions of the stimulus and tarp to the deficit are very small; the main drivers (foreign wars, tax cuts, and the economic downturn) all trace to the bush administration. of course, it's entirely obama's and the congress's responsibility to correct the wrongheaded policies enacted under bush, but it really is amazing how people like crazy anonymous troll wail on and on about the fiscal burden of the stimulus while completely ignoring the, ahem, elephants in the room.
and speaking of the stimulus, anon is also right that, as bad as things are now, things would have been much worse yet without the stimulus. truly one of obama's biggest mistakes was that the stimulus was too small.
Klemzit, for the first time in my life I'm proud of you. It appears you had the nerve, notice I didn't say balls as that would be presumptive, to say "me too". I've not heard such courage from you of late.
So let me get this straight. The record unemployment we have would have been worse if it wasn't for the stimulus money the Great One has been spending? Does ya have any problem with the fact that unemployment is now higher than it has been in twenty years? Does ya have any problem with the the fact that your Chicago community leader promised it wouldn't go this high as long as we passed his stimulus plan? So now that the stimulus has done nothing, your only chirp is that that the stimulus was too small? We should have wasted more money and it would have worked better?
Look, it's obvious you love government spending. You are in the winning group right now. And frankly, I see no way where that will change. Too many folks believe in Free Stuff. My belief is we cannot pay for this much longer. The Great One's plan, which involves printing money, adding a Value Added Tax, and lying about the numbers cannot be sustained. You've seen what is happening on the state level. School teachers with 5% annual raises and no copays in their health insurance is a disaster for taxpayers, but the theft continues. We used that "stimulus" money Obama printed last year to avoid making any decisions at all. We simply added 10% to the budget and payed off all the criminals. If you think, Mr Kelfit, that adding more taxes, spending more money we don't have and lying is the answer to our future, so be it. The other part to your equation seems to be to blame GWBush. Well, I gotta give you credit, it has worked so far. But only with the 50% who don't pay income taxes. The rest of the folks are slowwwly getting smarter. What are you going to do then?
Your Friend
The Evil Troll
(who also works for government therefore worries about very little)
Well put you Evil Troll......
well i guess i'm not exactly proud of you, crazy wingnut troll, but i will give you credit for sort of making a decent point in there amidst all the nonsense ones. and since i'm a sweetie let me just focus on that. it's when you write
Does ya have any problem with the the fact that your Chicago community leader promised it wouldn't go this high as long as we passed his stimulus plan?
i don't think you're putting it quite right, but basically the answer is yes i do have a problem with that, a big one! of course you're lying by saying that obama "promised" anything of the sort. but in early 2009 the administration made projections about what the economy would look like over the next few years, and the size of their stimulus proposals was tailored to those projections. and they got it wrong! their projections were too rosy, and so the stimulus ended up being too small. there were many commentators at the time who argued that the stimulus was too small, and i found them persuasive, and they've been completely borne out but subsequent events. of course the path pursued by obama has been much better than any alternatives put forward by conservatives, but he still deserves serious criticism for not hitting the mark.
Kermit, I believe spending money we don't have never works out for the better. That's the cycle we have to stop, sooner or later. We also have to recognize that raising tax rates doesn't necessarily raise tax revenue. Allowing those "Bush tax cuts" to expire could hurt us. It might not increase revenue as some suggest. And even if it did, I have no doubt Nancie and the girls would have no problem spending the extra cash. The unemployment problem we face is because we have a stagnant economy that lacks confidence. No company wants to hire anyone. Who can blame them?
Hope it doesn't rain. I'm trying to get a boat in the water.
Da Troll
So "da troll" would prefer "da depression".
dear crazy wingnut troll,
name one instance in which a tax increase actually decreased revenue, or that a tax cut actually increased revenue. back it up. give us links. show us you're not living off in wingnut fantasy land.
toodles,
ht
With respect to you and your lifestyle, I'll go the other way. I'll prove my point with the budgets of Ronald Reagan. He cut tax rates dramatically and tax revenues rose. Problem was, Congress kept spending at a higher rate than the increase in revenues. We also took in more revenue after the economy expanded under the Bush tax cuts. Problem was, we kept spending. The issue with birds like you is you can never bring yourself to look at the spending side of things. The only thing you know is to take more of peoples' money and give it to government. I never understood why the only thing that your comfortable with is more and more government. Your entire life is run by fear, and an unwillingness to get into life and actually participate. Why are you so uncomfortable with yourself? This belief of yours that raising taxes solves all ills is also disproved on the state level. Thug Sheldon, who in your world probably represents balance, decided last year to raise tax rates on the rich. It has become an annual event, likely to be repeated this year. The ploy works well with folks like you. Hating someone else who is perceived to be more successful is cool, popular, and always sellable to the limited mind. But, my dear Bird, the tax increase resulted only in less revenue being collected. Again. The state hasn't as yet released their findings as to why. They probably don't know. Some people left the state, a fact and trend that you deny takes place. Some people found better ways to hide their money. Or maybe the state just lied about the numbers. Who knows. We may never know. But the bottom line is WE TOOK IN LESS BUCKS even though the tax laws were written to screw them rich people even more. When you tax Wall Street bonuses, companies finds ways to use tax laws to their advantage and get around the changes. Happens all the time. And I'll give you a clue, Kleanzit, the working class ends up paying the bill. The answer, my dear man/woman/plant, is to limit spending. But that brings us back to your fear and insecurity. I wish I knew how to make you feel better about yourself. Maybe the creation of yet another state agency would make you feel better. We could always get the rich to pay for it, right genius?
Ah whatever. Buddy/Buddess/Budling, as I've said, I got me my government job. From your love of government, I get the strong wiff of a person who has that some benefit going for them. In other words, who give a shit. Every dime the 50% who pay taxes puts into the kitty benefits us more than others. So its all to the good. I just cannot believe my good fortune at having been granted by God a job working for the government. And nary a day goes by that I'm not grateful for good folks like you. Without you, none of this would be possible. You just keep fighting the good fight. I hope you win this argument for the rest of my life. I have confidence in you. Just that fact alone should make you feel better about yourself.
Tutchy Feely
blah blah blah that's a lot of psychobabble from someone who's supposed to be a real tough-guy conservative.
but that aside, poor crazy wingnut troll really is living off in wingnut fantasy land. anyone who googles around a bit will find that this idea that tax cuts more than pay for themselves has been hugely debunked.
take greg mankiw, chair of the council of economic advisors from 2003-2005 under bush, who compared the notion to a "snake oil salesman trying to sell a miracle cure."
or andrew samwick, another cea chairman under bush, who said (my emphasis) "You know that the tax cuts have not fueled record revenues. You know that the first effect of cutting taxes is to lower tax revenues. The ultimate reduction in tax revenues can be less than this first effect, because lower tax rates encourage greater economic activity. No thoughtful person believes that this possible offset more than compensated for the first effect for these tax cuts. Not a single one."
or this, from a 2007 article on the bush tax cuts: "Virtually every economics Ph.D. who has worked in a prominent role in the Bush Administration acknowledges that the tax cuts enacted during the past six years have not paid for themselves--and were never intended to."
or this chart detailing tax measures enacted during the reagan years, which shows that the centerpiece 1981 tax cut was a big revenue loser.
i could go on, but of course people like crazy wingnut troll have no interest in looking things up anyway. there's no desire at all to engage with reality as it actually is, because that would conflict with their ideology. all they have is ignorance and superstition.
I think I blahed pretty well there, Kermits. Lots of facts for ya. But as I said, who cares. Things are good for me as long as people like you are around selling the story. Two weeks ago I got a 7% raise. How's that for suffering through tough times? And its all because of guy/girls like you who love us so much. Raise them taxes, borrow that money, screw them kids, and keep things going just as they are. You the man, so to speak. I believe in you more than I believe in myself. I never thought I'd get to a point in my life where I was arguing with a guy/girl/it to pay me less. Things get strange as you get older. If you have any kids, tell them thanks, and I'm sorry.
