The 122nd Assembly race will be very interesting...I waded through a lengthy manifesto put out today by Ken Blankenbush...It's called True North and the text is on Jude's site...Among the points is a proposed suspending of Miranda rights for terror suspects in NY.....Can an Assemblyman do that ?
To be honest it looked like boilerplate from the Republican Assembly Campaign Committee....Nobody has that many talking points.
On the other side, Democrat Brian McGrath is holding an official kickoff on Saturday in Lowville....Headlining his speakers list is labor boss and hubby of the current Assemblyman, Ron McDougall....
Hope there are no Weekly Standard Reporters in Lewis County that day.
Ron's presence is the clearest evidence of what has long been obvious and that is Assemblywoman Scozzafava supports the Democrat.
That's no surprise...Scozzafava is steamed at the GOP over her Congressional race from Hell last year. Remember,she sat in that booth at Jumbo's Diner three days before the election, breaking bread with June O'Neill and Rep. Steve Israel, and then promptly dropped her bid; endorsed Democrat Bill Owens and rode the once mighty GOP line to a meager 5% showing.
She would have run this year, had Blankenbush not and she can still deliver votes especially in Gouverneur. She can also be a key adviser on issues in Albany.
To have been a fly on the wall in Jumbo's....betcha lots of possibilities and opportunities were discussed...All the code words that shrewd pros like June and Israel would use.
There will be some payback in this race and the one time Congressional frontrunner from last year has some scores to settle.
This will be a fun race to watch...Each candidate has his own strengths and vulnerablilities.....And this district has never been seriously contested..It will be this year.

Dede has nothing to be angered at Republicans about, she ran and AWFUL campaign and she should accept responsibility for it.
She has always been a lazy candidate and elected official - late for everything or not showing up. She should look in the mirror to find the person she wishes to be angry at.
And I am not a supporter of anyone in the 122 yet, I am undecided.
Ken Blankenbush had the guts to throw Richie Kessel and his Lake Ontario Wind project out of town. Ken was proven right on that one since Richie has yet to find a friendly home as the rest of the Lake Ontario's Counties followed Ken's lead and booted him out, too.
Unlike Aubertine, Russell, and Owens, Ken was able to recognize that BFW will have an economic impact on homeowners that will devalue 40% of Jefferson county's Lake and River tax base.
As for Republican's endorsing Democrats, nothing new. Last November, The Cape Republican co-chairs endorsed the Democrats because the Dems were pro-wind. But, the "referendum on wind" backfired and the Republican co-chairs were beat by their own party as two Republicans were elected to the town board.
It certainly appear Doheny staff is hoping McGrath wins without outrightly announcing such. I was supprised that Doheny contributed so much money last year to DeDe but sharing her veiws so passiontly I guess its really no suprise.
Her and her hubbie are still crooks, and we need to remember that as voters.
Well, Brian McGrath...I thought you were a breath of fresh air and someone new to politics, but it seems as it's politics as usual in the North Country. I will not vote for anyone associated with Dede Scozzafava, I don't care or know who Ron McDougall is, but I know Dede and her values aren't my values.
I'm not a big fan of Ken Blankenbush, but at least with him I know what I'm going to get...who knows what Dede and her friends will do.
Ken also was a big support of Dede last year and has asked her more then once for Dede's support.
RWiley, what are you smokin'? Ken was chairman of the Board of Legislature when he brokered, finangled, strong-armed the 8-7 deal to get Galloo Island PILOT passed. You are even more delusional if you think he (or any of the Legislators, for that matter) had any inkling that Kessel was going to kibosh Galloo by refusing to buy their power after the Board later voted against NYPA. Nond of them are that smart...least of all Ken.

I have to say that this is not a smart play from McGrath's standpoint. In a year when middle of the road folks are running away from traditional political power broakers he's letting Dede Scuzzyfava and June O'Neil lead him around by the nose. In a year when people are fed up with the union thug bosses, he asks Ron McDougal to speak on his behalf. (Why is Ron still relevant by the way...he couldn't even save his own plant in Massena?)
This LIBERAL track that McGrath is venturing down is not going to get him elected by the Tea Party faithful who are going to back Conservative candidates this fall.

Anyone who reads their crap should know that they are lead by a rather despicable creep named Sanford Wilk who is a pornographer who has hated Brian for years. Yes Brian is a very clever, smart, and articulate politician who has great speaking abilities as well as charm, but don't let him fool you. His accomplishments are what are important. What did he accomplish as a lawyer? An associate after 9 years without moving up to partner? What were his accomplishments in Boy Scouts? I haven't seen any noted. As far as condo president other than changing the color flowers in the vases each week and wasting money on his handpicked attorney who threw away hundreds of thousands of dollars of the condo's funds there isn't much. He mismanaged the budget so badly that now there is rumor there has to be a special assesment in a building that is practically brand new.
Smarten up and look into what this man is capable of doing for you in Albany, rather than how nice he might be when you meet him or how well he did in school. Don't be naive!

Hate to tell you this, but a person can only be liable if they are deliberately saying something they know to be untrue. Based on all the proof that some of these people are posting, including articles in newspapers and internet publications, it doesn't seem like they would be liable, but it does seem like you are trying to threaten and frighten people into silence. This is much more concerning to me then what the neighbors of Brian are saying.
