I am not a member of Mayor Bloomberg's 'Mayors Against Hand Guns' group, so I really don't have a problem with our Senator voting against microstamping of ammo.....
However...Am I the only one who reads day after day of budget stories and wonders how the Legislature can do anything other than the business at hand ? OK, I am the only one who wonders that.
A funny aside...a spokesman for Aubertine's Democratic Caucus called votes against the bill a "victory for gun criminals" and an undercutting of police. Ouch !
Aubertine: Vote Upholds Rights of Sportsmen, Gun Owners New York State Senate

Now I know Patti Ritchie reads this Blog Daily.. As a Senatoral canidate I feel she should let us know immediately exactly her position on this legislation and how she would have voted...Dont ask others how to vote but straight from the heart.. Remember Laura Perrys vote in your county and remember the results of her foolish vote. She should be able to answer this today but if she cant I understand. The GOP dont want her to voice her opinion but only there offical position.
Darrel voted with the criminals on thi one.
microstamping does not keep honest people from owning guns.
the reason, Mayor, this was worked on now even with all of the budgetary problems is simple- "It's all about Darrel, all of the time."
Darrel just can't do anything right, in the eyes of many of the blog readers here. I am content to rely on the senator's judgement. The law doesn't even apply til 1/1/12, and many firearms will be produced before then. The microstamping is for semiautos, which I don't own. Ya think that criminals are going to use only brand new guns in their shootouts?
933; Your absolutely right in saying microstamping does not keep honest people from owning guns. It keeps nutcases like you supporting governments taking our rights away..You would support anything the government wants to do as long as it dosnt affect you. People like Bloomburg chip away at our civil rights and freedoms one step at a time. Over a period of years they will keep adding these little laws. Eventually we will end up in a police state which we are damm close to now. Its been discussed before.. Enforce what laws we have now. Do not give the police choices. The choices I mean are letting a child molester go or a burglar go in order to arrest someone else from info gathered from the molesters and robbers. It happens now and will continue.. I once read an item on the internet about an older couple calling the authorities abut a burglary in their garage taking place as they spoke. The dispatcher asked if they were safe and inside, and if they could get a description of the person or persons in their barn. There were no cars available. The old man was pissed so he waited a few minutes and called back and told the dispatcher never mind I took care of the issue. How did you do that siad the dispatcher. I shot both of them said the old man. Within five minutes there was several patrol cars from the authorities at their house plus a heliocopter circling the area. Within another five minutes they had been joined by several more authroties from various agencies.. This is a true story and it goes to the heart of law enforcement and where they are today...
1006.. You are right.. Give a cop a headline and they will kill someone for it.. The Rumble case in Ogdensburg.. FBI was in place and made an arrest early in the AM. The media was told about it by the local authorities and once they showed up and had their cameras rolling a SWAT Team showed up and stormed an empty house for the media. Hospital authorities were told of the danger of an explosian because of gunpowder and told to take percautions.. However the neighbors recieved no such courtesy. Why? Because there would be no audience. Roadblocks set up by local police stopped cars however people by the hundreds were allowed right up to the residence....
Patti oh Patti whats your stance on this issue...
Patti we would still like your stance on this issue.. I know you read this blog daily. You are not ignoring us are you...
From the article: "At best, this law would only tell you who the original purchaser was."
Okay, fine, I say that's a good thing if the subject gun was used say in a murder and the "original" owner can't justify where the gun is/or was on the day of the crime?
What bills has Sen. Darrel signed onto about stopping "illegal" gun owners, I wonder?
Patti, Patti Ritchie are you ignoring your constituants.. Is this the type of Senator you will be... We want a simple snswer from you about your stance on the issue of microstamping ammo Show us what type of Senator you will be.. Answer this simple question on this blog..
Patti you are ignoring us. Obviously you have no stance. You cant be misquoted as you claim you were on the abortion issue in the WDT.. Patti you can talk on these blogs with us also. You keep running to the mayor for endorcement which he wont do why cant you answer a simple issue question. Nothing here but from the heart interest. Your not waiting for Martin to give you the approval are you......... Imagine a Senatoral canidate ignoring a simple question...
I think Patti is ignoring us..Patti, oh Patti.. I guess shes not going to answer the question until it is politcally advantageous to her. She visits Fort Pearle Frequently however she feels the mayors blog is unworthy for one to state her position on a simple topic.. If she visits the Fort looking for the publicity why cant she answer a blog....
I,ll keep trying to get an answer Mayor can you help out getting an answer. Its a pretty simple topic.
Patti oh Patti are you ignoring a simple question... Are you for or are you against microstamping handguns ammo... Pretty simple Yes or No.... Not going to answer folks.. Is that what she will do as Senator not show up?
Let the Ritchie thing go... She obviously dosnt want to answer. Doheny is a supporter of this bill. I cant understand this guy at all..
A few facts to mix with the anti guy hysteria. We already have enough gun laws in NYS to satisfy all but the most fearful among us. All new guns are required to have ballistic "fingerprints" made, which does basically the same thing as the ammo "fingerprinting" that was proposed. It would add no additional safety or security, only cost. And it might make the uninformed feel good. Darrel was absolutely right in making the decision he did. It is very disappointing that so many are motivated solely by emotion and complete lack of information. How many more ineffective gun laws will be enough for these people?
it's obvious from the comments that those opposed to the law are anti-cop and anti-law.
black helicopters anyone?
If we could trust the cops it would be different. Give them aan inch and they take a mile... Thats what its all about. MY rights.. Your rights... To choose not to own one and be left alone then great. How would you feel with legislation made to make you carry one... You would scream and holler and cry and worse.
Patti, oh Patti Are you going to answer a simple question Whats your position on micro stamping... Pretty easy question and I know you read this blog daily. You want he mayor to support you and you want the publicity of going to the Fort but you wont use his blog... Some Senator you would make... We know Doheny is a supporter of this law and darrell isnt..
Way to go Darrel, you did the right thing this time. Where was de de and add ie on this one?I am sure Pattie was opposed to micro crap. Less than 7 percent effective. Guns do not kill people do and there is enough laws on the books. Leave it alone.
Forget about Patti - did you see how Addie voted? Yes, that's right - she voted FOR the gun control bill. How's that for representing our North Country heritage.
Way to go Senator Aubertine! Keep up the good work supporting sportsmen and law abiding firearms owners.
Patti oh Patti are you going to answer us..
If your right and Addie voted for the bill I would be very disapointed.I,ll still vote for her but very disapointed. What do you feel Forsythes vote would have been..
Addie Jenne Russell is a fool if she supported this joke. But I wouldn't be surprised if she did. It has nothing to do with police officers. Can that nonsense. Or go with it if it gives you a tingle up your leg. Ask an officer if they want another law layered on law abiding citizens. One that would have no effect whatsoever on criminals. Those of you who think officers support this are calling them stupid, and trust me, they're not. I would love it if rank and file police officers themselves wrote gun laws. We'd have some common sense returned to this situation.
And to the stupid sh#t who keeps asking about Ritchie's opinion, how about us hearing what Owens?Pelosi thinks about another meaningless gun law. C'mon Congressman Owens/Pelosi, what do you think about it? We'll wait, and I'll keep reminding you.
The mayor is spending a lot of time pushing for a legislation that will require guns to have microstamp technology. Two Problems! I say it again, how many crimes are committed by the owner of a handgun that is registered to himself? Criminals cannot posses a handgun legally so what will microstamping accomplish. Second problem is, these guns are not yet in production and the last program enacted on handgun control has cost the taxpayers millions of dollars and has been ineffective. Sounds like the mayor is jumping the gun, no pun intended.
Like Senator Libous stated to Mayor Bloomberg, stop the Democrats from passing legislation that allow felony criminals and violent felony criminals out of jail early. Crime has been down for the last 10 years in NYC. With scores of new release laws crime rate will only increase and the economic times in NYS will exasperate the problem.
Ritchie has been for the sportsmen from day one, I believe she would of voted "NO".
Has Owens asked Pelosi what he is allowed to believe regarding the need for new layers of gun laws? C'mon MR Owens. You're not ignoring us, are you. Just how long can it take for you to get your opinion sent to by the stretch-faced moderated from San Francisco. Don't dodge your constituents, the ones here in NY, Mr Owenss. Please ask your owner which way you will be allowed to vote and let up poor bumpkins in NNY know what she decided. We'll be waiting.
Addie voted for this bill? Are we sure of it? This would be another eg of not looking out for her constituents again. What about DEDE? Where is Blackenbush or Forsythe on this one. This is important to me and I want to know for sure where my reps stand on these type issues.
anon 5:37 per the word of Jude this morning. Darrel No, Griffo NO, DEDE No,
Barkley NO,
Addie Yes. Pretty sure Blackenbush and Forsythe are both 2nd ammend guys.Just call them and ask the question.Anon9:49 Just call Patty and ask the question. You are important questions of representing our interests up here.
I belive Forsythe is about as Pro-Gun as any NRA official. I heard he hosted NRA TV personalities at his Basswood Lodge and there is video on Basswood Lodge's website to back this up. I also recall Forsythe sponsoring some sort of pro-gun legislation for St. Lawrence County. That said, I don't recall what the details were. As for Addie - her comments this morning in the Watertown Daily Times echoes that of her Democratic Assembly majority. As for Senator Aubertine - he's the man on this issue! Thank you Senator.
Patti oh Patti we are still waiting... I dont know what Owens and Pelosi have to do with a NYC law being passed in NYC but if you read this Blog please give an answer. One of Doheny people are interested, as Matt is for the legislation he wants to see Owens position.. Patti please answer
Thank you Poly for the answer for Ritchie.. Are you her campaign manager and offically answering for her.. She reads this blog daily and has stated so. She writes the mayor and calls the mayor and goes to his business trying to get his support. Taking all of this into consideration I feel she could have stated her position on this blog herself on a simple issue. Your either for it or against it......
Mrs Owens, Mr Pelosi, we're still waiting. What is your position on yet another meaningless gun law that only effects criminals? C'mon. Let the "small people" know what you really think about them. Aren't you even allowed to speak, Mrs Owens?
Either you believe in the Constitution (including the Second Amendment) or you don't. What part of "without infringement" don't you understand? Mr. Aubertine, bless his soul, is one of the very few people in Albany who does understand. At least on this occasion, Mr. Aubertine's Oath to uphold and defend the Constitution is intact. I salute you, Sir!
And Vermont remains the only state in the Union who adheres to the Second Amendment.
10:29
Yes, Vemont is the only state in the Union who adhere's to the Second Amendment. They also have one of the lowest crime rates, too.
It's amazing at how secretive gun owners are. You are afraid of a law that could identify your ammo? Perhaps it is your motives for gun ownership that should be questioned rather than the supporters of the legislation. You sound like a bunch of paranoid militia wannabees.
Amen to that.... Patti oh Patti we are stillw waiting on your answer.. Doheny?Scozzfava still want your answer Mr. Owens/Pelosi Knowing Matt he would vote the same as DeDe as his committment in congress will line up with hers..
Patti oh Patti.. Oh well never mind I just didnt want you to get misquoted as you did on the abortion issue when you said one thing then a year later you claimed you were misquoted. Life is good as a challanger isnt it. You can let you opponet vote sit back and watch the reaction to the vote then state a popular opinion of your own... Good luck in the election you will need it. Oh by the way it poor slobs like us that write on these blogs that vote...I thought you might want to become one of us folks here instead of sucking up to the editor and meeting at his establishment. You are hard to figure out. I guess the gun bill was too much for you to comprehend.
Hey Owens, what is your position on this latest gun stupidity. National Donkeys have a reputation for foolish, feel good, ineffective, costly, and redundant gun laws. They especially apply to places where there is no gun crime, in an attempt address your own inner city failings. But I digress. Mr Owens/Pelosi, has 'ol tympani face told you yet how you will vote on any upcoming addition to our gun laws fiasco?
How about incumbent stamping to keep track of them?
How about term limits for all of them. No more than two terms.. Or elect them every two years and no more than three terms.. No pension,
"Two year terms" mean Joe the Plumber spends a year learning the job and then get 12 months to do something significant after he's no longer wet behind the ears. "No more than three terms" means the American people are no longer trusted to keep a good person in office past the government mandated term limits.
anon 240 enough is enough. If you are a darrel buddy or employee fine. Your dem take guns philosophy is almost over. November will tell the real story. Your king darrel made the right decision and that is fine. Hopefully he will stick with it and not sell us all out for some wind deal or other crap. Your queen Addie on the other hand whats up with that? What was her deal or just another shelly I owe ya deal. Thought so. Patty is pro gun no question asked. Move on to the indy party or wfp and start your questioning there.
Anon 9:49 I am glad 2:40 got his answer. I have been following each of the issues and Mrs. Ritchie has been an advocate for sportsman from day one. I associate that with not supporting this legislation.
I thank Senator Aubertine for his vote, but you know a blind squirrel gets a nut once in awhile.
Too bad Addie dropped the ball on this issue. Just goes to show you how well she understands her constituents.
I don't mind talking guns. I have one in my closet. But this issue is a big smoke screen fogging a real local issue. That being the thousands of innocent local homeowners who are going to see their property values tank as Owens, Russell, and Aubertine turn a large area Oswego, Jefferson, and St. Lawrence into the red light district of Aubertine's newly designated Energy Valley.
If you want to see what they plan to do from Oswego to Plattsburg, come to Cape Vincent and check out what the Canadians did to us and Wolfe Island.
I'll bet you have a lot of stuff stored in the closet, Wiley.
Don't worry about your windmills. Other people will pay the price for you. Just keep driving around like nothing has changed. For you, it never will.
This is typical North Country stupidity. I've seen farmers vote for Republicans because they were worried about their guns, while the Democrats were clearly supporting the best farm policy.
Meanwhile, the Republicans pass draconian farm legislation that puts family farms out of business in favor of corporations.
The farmers still have their guns, guns they weren't going to lose no matter who was elected, but damn, they've lost the farm and can't afford the bullets.
This fits others as well, including the folks that have seen their manufacturing jobs go overseas.
Remember how Schumer was going to "take our guns away". I've still got mine.
This gun stamping thing is just another over hyped isssue by the gun lobby and the hicks fall for it every time.
No wonder we're Appalachia's poor relation.
You Gun jockeys are a sad bunch . How many damn guns do you need to to make up for your lack of manliness ? My guess guess is that size if your gun collection and the size of your pickup overcompensates for lack of size in your knickers
Anon 10:44. How could you be so ignorant to not know the effect the wind problem has been having on our counties. And the legs and JCIDA. It sounds to me you live in a closet. Wiley is right. A real issue. No one is goin to take your guns.
We hear this every time from the folks who want one more law. As if the thousands on the books right now aren't enough. Right after you lose the argument, you go into the ridicule thing. Then you shut up for a while until you think common sense people are sleeping. And then it's time for another meaningless gun law that does nothing. It really has gotten to be a predictable cycle, even in a foolish state like our own. The one thing you have going for you is many people don't know about the issue and are influenced by emotion. As long as that dynamic is in play, especially in a more urban state like NY, there is a chance for you people to win some battles. In the meantime, just keep drawing on the gonad jokes, so to speak. It is your best talent.
Actually in my post, I never mentioned your lack of gonads. I mentioned your lack of brains.
Oh, and don't confuse thinking like a hick with common sense.
Most of the pro gun lobby equate gonads with brains -- LMAO
