Another Dem Says No to the WFP

Lewis County native and Assembly candidate Brian McGrath told me today he is joining Senator Darrel Aubertine in saying no to the controversial Working Families Party.
Mr. McGrath told me he wants to be independent of the kind of agenda the party brings. Normally a Democrat takes the extra line on the ballot in hopes of picking up some extra votes and accessing the logistical support from the WFP.
Democrats from Andrew Cuomo on down have been skittish of the party for a variety of reasons.
Assemblywoman Addie Russell should do the same, but may find the line more appealing due to the core liberal areas in her district including Massena, Potsdam and Canton.
I suspect Congressman Bill Owens will say yes to the line as his campaign has ties to the SEIU which is a key component of the WFP.

Brian me boy, you just lost 5 Democrat votes in this household in Lewis County. There is symbolism in the WFP line and that is support for the middle class and working people. We don't need someone to show us how "almost Republican" they are.
Find a bullet and shoot yourself in the other foot.

Mr. McGrath; You had the courage and independence, to do what you feel is right. I commend you for that. Sorry 6:57, but all political parties do have thier own hidden agenda. It's up to the smart person to sort out what is right and what is not. Would you rather have someone put on a falce face, just to get your vote?

I'm afraid the false face has been put on. McGrath is pullonf an Aubertine.

6:57 So are we to believe there are 5 government employees or teachers in one household? If so, you have so much extra money it doesn't much matter who you vote for. Yours must be some pretty boring dinner discussions. "Please pass the Free Stuff, Mabel".

Real issue, Mr Mcgrath said he plans on spending 500,000 to run for a 79,500 2 year job. Am I the only one that has a real problem with that? where in the real world (working family or whatever) does this make sense really, stop, think. All kidding aside explain this.

Nope-One farmer, bank teller, hairdresser, 81 year old retired person and one teacher.
by the way, you impune all teachers and government employees. I can tell you this one works her arse off. no free stuff here.

I'm probably talking to someone on Medicare or SSI. I don't really feel that way but see how it goes when you believe in non fact based notions and preconceived ideas.

On the other hand you imply with your insulting manner, that Mr. McGrath does not value government employee votes. I'm sure they will be glad to vote for someone else or sit this one out, if, as you imply, they are not worthy of McGrath's representation.

9:51PM-The WFP supports the farmworkers legislation. When, according to your warped thinking, did farmworkers become government employees?

I asked this the other night and I ask again - what difference's specifically does Brian have with the WFP and the Democratic Party?

There is no reason other than knee jerk politics to run away from the WFP and Brian, you're going lose more than five votes by not grabbing the support. It's more than a line, it's a belief in working families.

There is no difference between the WFP and the Democratic Party...they believe the same principals folks. McGrath is just running away from he bad WFP because it helps him politically.

JUDE SEYMOUR - YOU'RE THE ONLY REAL JOURNALIST IN NNY, IF YOU ARE TRULY A JOURNALIST YOU WILL ASK MCGRATH WHAT HE DISAGREES WITH THE WFP ON? OR WAS IT JUST POLITICS AS USUAL FOR A SLICK NYC LAWYER?

CLOCK IS TICKING JUDE...

WFP is feeling very used these days. "We like working families" Only when they are needed huh?!

Brian is a political newcomer and has never used the WFP before. He spoke at the St. Lawrence County Democratic Committee meeting quite passionately about his support for working families, unions and his belief that as a political outsider, it is best that he not confine himself to any labels. He literally stole the show last night. People were raving about him afterwards and especially the union leaders their expressed their complete support for him, even though he won't be on the WFP line.

I hope people listen to him rather than tune him out because of the line he is running on.

11:09AM- That does nothing to explain why he isn't on the WFP line.If he's that passionate he should be. I smell an Aubertine-like political coward.

Brian has been reaching out to union leaders for months. His brother is a union steward, so I believe him when he talk about labor issues.

The WFP is being investigated for potentially illegal conduct. I don't know if there's anything to the allegations, but McGrath is smart not to hitch is wagon to that horse. If the WFP comes up clean, good. But if it doesn't, then McGrath is saving himself a headache.

7:02PM The Independence Party is also being investigated, yet, he has sought their line. Will he now announce that he will not accept their endorsement?

The oneida County Independence Party is being investigated as well as the state organization. Step up, Brian.
