The Ying and Yang of a Running Mate from Cape Vincent

This is a year when there will be increased scrutiny on who the running mates are.
Four years ago Eliot Spitzer was the Sheriff of Wall Street and a star. Nobody paid attention to his running mate selection and I suspect most NNY Dems couldn't have named the number two.
That changed when the young and healthy Spitzer showed you can leave office quickly without sudden death.
So when a name like Senator Aubertine comes up, we chuckle at first but then take a more serious look see. You set up the matrix.
He is friendly on the eyes, but is a dubious debater. He is a guy without personal scandal and projects an upstate family-oriented, work ethic persona that compares well to the slicker, swarmier image of the downstaters being mentioned.
On the other hand, Senator Aubertine is more Palin than Palin in his lack of the education credentials we usually vote for. No law degree...No Ivy League...
Then there is abortion. Darrel Aubertine is pro-life and that would enrage the Downstate Libs. He would have to scamper to the left in the short term, but frankly the things that enrage Anthony Wiener likely endear Darrel to upstaters.
Aubertine is a risky choice but in the areas of character and down to earthness, he helps out.
At this point, Team Cuomo may leak several names in part to test the waters and in part to spread the love to Dems who are in need of the imprimatur of importance to win their own race.
Let's see what happens in the run up to the convention.

I'll bite, Mayor, and play the hypothetical out. Darrell has been a thorn in the side of the NYC liberals. He's opposed to all the issues that tend to raise the big bucks for the liberals (abortion, farmworkers, etc.). That 32nd vote gives them the majority, but they have little to show for it.

What better way to circle the liberal wagons than to give Aubertine an honorable exit strategy? The Dems keep the Senate if they knock off Padavan (a very vulnerable City Republican) and if Stachowski loses his primary, the Dems pick up 2 liberals.

Aubertine on top of the ticket gives the Dems some real juice in their Upstate races. With an open seat race in WNY shaping up, the Dems may even pick up seats with Aubertine stumping in dairy country out there. He can charm and disarm crowds from Long Island to Erie County, raking in the bucks for Andy and getting moderate voters fired up.

More importantly, the North Country boy farmer cannot cast embarrassing votes against the Downstate Dems.

Again, all speculation at this point, but the Mayor may be onto something here.

Oh, and nobody cares about wind farms outside of Cape Vincent, Clayton, and A-Bay.

Addie vs Patty... Addie will win hands down but its not going to happen and yu know it... Addie will return to the 118th with little or no problem at all. Darrell will return to Senate but it will be closer than he would like.. There will be a story broken on Doheny in the near future that will reshape that race also..

Addie vs Patty Addie wins? Show me more than a clueless reason. Something please. Stands on her own, goes against the party when she knows they are wrong, does not let accidents happen on her watch. Just one good reason. Thought so. Keep supporting nothing.
