WDT | North wind farm market dries up

Votes have consequences and the Jefferson County Legislature now knows that as the NY Power Authority says it will not guarentee to buy power from projects in the county...including projects already proposed....
After a contentious debate over tax breaks for a Galloo Island wind farm, county lawmakers voted not to allow any NYPA projects off shore in Lake Ontario.
Without a guarenteed buyer of the power produced, these projects don't cost out and will not be built.
Is that what the legislators wanted or were they just voting against NYPA to spare themselves more controversy ?

I couldn't figure it out, in for a dime in for a dollar or so the saying goes, The county leg wanted the Donald's project to be the only one, Is the PILOT agreement that JCIDA was supposed to be working on done yet??? With GM closed in Massena doesn't the Robert Moses dam have boatloads of power unallocated????

Who'da thunk it right?

These issues are complex by design to confuse people. Besides, most of them tend to fall apart at the 11th hour anyway.

So can't these things be explained and legislated and solved the old-fashioned way -- like in simple terms, say like, um ... like E=mc2 for example?

Blankenbum and Bumsby couldn't wait to be anti wind after being pro-wind. They fought back against the big,bad NYPA without realizing they might need them to help their pro-wind vote. Sometimes you have to think ahead. Ken wants to represent the North Country in the Assembly? Thoughtless pandering on both votes

Wouln't you have cornered the market,as to whom would be buying your power, before you got into a deal;then stating that "it's a slap in the face of the people". BS, I do not believe ,neither the contractor, nor BBush and JCIDA.There is way more to this story, than what is being told by these shady, greedy, characters. It's irionic that this group of characters is whining about the NYPA decision not to buy power, yet this same group of characters, wouldn't listen to the will of the majority. Must be NYPA couldn't be bought. Yup, life is good.

The whole concept of NYPA buying high cost power from an ill conceived technology was doomed from the beginning. NYPA would build h projects because then they get federal subsidies. The Power for Jobs bill relies on low cost power actually being produced -- it cannot be produced from a 100+% subsidized market. Wind energy receives 164% overall subsidy to generate 20% of the time -- this sounds like most politicians energy and production levels also -- maybe that is why thy like them -- sets the bar lower for their lack of performance -- we need a new band of leaders - ones who actually work for us.

Who'da thunk it right?

Dan,

A lot of people thunk it.

However, most of the voters in our local and State districts are not yet aware of the tremendous amount of time, effort and consideration put in by legislators from Wayne, Oswego, Jefferson (and citizens from St. Lawrence) counties.

They have attended numerous grass roots meetings held by The Coalition for the Preservation of the Golden Crescent and Thousand Island Region (and the Oswego and Wayne county lake shore regions).
Owens and Russell have been two of the few who have ignored those meetings, thus far. Pattie Ritchie has given them the courtesy of her attendance and if Doheny is wise, he will do the same. Even his home town of ABay is at risk.
The numerous politicians who have attended have listened with the utmost respect.

The legislative joint coalition co-chaired by Oswego County legislator Shawn Doyle and Jefferson County's Barry Ormsby have and continue to be meeting and working for the taxpayers.

We can disagree on what their ultimate decision should be, but we can't ignore the fact that this is a very hot political issue and Richard Kessel is making this a downstate vs upstate major war. Aubertine even changed our name to "Energy Valley" in a celebration of a not yet won war that he fully intends to win in order to impress the downstate powers.

Now, do we want to live in New York's Energy Valley crapped up with industrial wind, or do we want to live in the beautiful Golden Crescent and Thousand Islands Region?

Only one question remains, Dannie and Willey. What are you gonna do when The Great One comes to town (unlikely) and tells you to wiggle and get a tingle in your leg about wind power? Are yous gonna leave your zipper up this time? You loved what he said, now you hate what the locals sold you. Now you have to go back to loving what your guy said. Ah, most people won't remember. I just loves folks who can have it both ways.

Entitled
