It's been a week since the whimsical posting of speculation that Darrel Aubertine would be chosen as Andrew Cuomo's running mate. The Democratic convention is now less than three weeks away and Mr. Cuomo still has not publicly stated his intention to run and we have no idea who the running mate is.
Four years ago nobody cared. In fact nobody paid attention as Eliot Spitzer chose an obscure (to most) state senator from Manhattan to be a prostitute away from the Governor's Mansion.
So, what's up ? Wouldn't it be good to know some names and have a little vetting going on.
Four years ago there was no examination of whether the running mates were appropriate. This year it may be the same.

Why so secretive Mr. Cuomo?
My guess is Byron Brown. The President is visiting Buffalo somewhat close to the D convention. Too bad it is not Watertown or we could speculate about you Mayor.
Secretive Mr. Cuomo.. My goodness has Lazio announced or Levy.. God Mr. Cuomo has not even announced he is running has he? Lazio may announce soon and it probably will be Matt Doheny right.. Levy will announce soon and it will be Hoffman. So I guess we will need new canidates right. I,m all for thaT
Aubertine comes with baggage. Cuomo asked for voluntary compliance and announcement of any public officials who have wind conflicts. Aubertine has signed three leases with Acciona from Spain. They are on file with the JefCo. county clerk.
And, Cuomo has stood down on enforcement of his own policy when it comes to public officials who have wind contracts making decisions on behalf of their BFW partners. Cape Vincent and other towns and even school districts, collectively, have dozens. Andy has ignored them.
Now in all fairness to Mr. Aubertine, Cuomo's policy was directed to "local" officials. Apparently Andy believes If you are on the State level, anything goes.
Aubertine's not black or Hispanic. That would summarily rule him out.
Hes a nice guy. He is likeable and well liked. He does a good job. He is reasonalbly honest so he dosnt qualify.
Again, I believe it is an opportunity for the Donkey party to redefine its identity. Darrel is just the opposite of what the Silvers, the Monserattes, the Espadas, are all about. Its not about the upstate thing. Its about a real person being in there. I do not believe he is a crook, which sets him apart. I'd love to see him get a chance.

5:17 "He's reasonably honest" who's kidding who? He's as crooked and dishonest as they come. When your word is no good you are no good. DA is nothing other than a gold digger he would sell his ,area, or his mother to get ahead. He has proven that from the time he made the back door deal to become chairman of Jeff BOL. It's all about Darrell don't ever think otherwise!
He got elected Chairman of the County Legislature because six of 12 Republicans bolted......
In all fairness, while Aubertine could be accused of opportunism, the suggestion it was a back door (or somehow corrupt) deal doesn't hold water...
It was actually a shrewd move that opened the door to Albany for a Democrat.
After the Spitzer thing Aubertine and a group of lawmakers took an oath to be in bed by 9:00. True Story.
I love that story, 10:06. That's the kind of info you can only git on a blog. They do go to bed early in Cape Vincent, but that usually means they've been successful in finding an agreeable partner. Darrel is a good man. Anyone in bed by 9pm is doin' things right. That's why he's a good family man and one of us.
Tony Orlando before 9
Tony Orlando and Dawn after 9
Who cares whos in bed by 9 anyway. Who cares whos bed there in anyway. People pay to much attention to what other people do. I see people have been paying alot of attention to Matt Dohenys orientation. If yu really want to know have balls enough to go to one of his events and ask him. The bottom line is does it really make a difference does it?
To me, going to bed by 9pm is the single most important element of being a fine American. I have my standards. What would you have them doing after 9, driving up and down Arsenal Street, or drinking the devil's brew?
Get hold of yourself. Not literally.
Pogo
"In bed by 9 pm," then they get up and go home to their families after an hour or so ... that's nice.
Yes, they aren't the definition of integrity like you Dan. You are so amazing, it boggles my mind that you have never won an election. Of course it has nothing to do with you, its those damn party leaders to blame, and the stupid electorate.
Mr.Grahm do you even know how that went down? or are you just speculating?I think he did screw some people over on that deal to get the post,as amatter of fact I know he did.I do agree with you that opportunism was in fact the case.He did what most political figures do when they want something, screw someone else....
I have heard really bad things about Brown. His office stonewalls any development unless it somehow benefits his cronies. If he gets the nod for LTG, that will be great for Buffalo (get him outta there) but bad for the state. Aubertine would be a way better choice.
I do agree with you 314pm I think Mr.A would be a good choice...
1:41 - When a party does not get behind a candidate, unless they "like" the person regardless of their ability, knowledge of issues or demonstrated leadership, then all the running in the world won't matter unless and until the party support is there ...
I like parties, just not those stuck in 2nd gear wearing blinders that enables them to see only one direction...
I doubt you know anything about my abilities whatsoever. Besides, there is no shame in losing - happens all the time. The shame is not even trying, just standing on the sidelines bitching and moaning about change and never trying...
Either that or coming in 3rd in a two-person race...
My motto is simple: Never give up, never.
Juston, do u even know what went down or are you just speculating? Who exactly did he screw over by elevating himself to Legislature chair? Was he just supposed to go with the flow and elect a chairman he had no faith in? Oh, and Dan keep blaming the party leaders, it keeps working for you.
No Dannie, you're motto should be Never give up seeking as much Free Stuff as Possible. I've never seen you say no to much of anything. Whatever the topic, its a good thing to spend money on as far as you're concerned.
The only other option might be All are Entitled. More simple, to the point. Sounds like something that should be chisled somewhere. Costs less to engrave. But then again costs never concerned you.
Don't get mad. My only purpose in life is to poke a little fun at my man, Dan. I'm a rudderless hack.
