Aubertine Candidacy Would Affect Down Ballot Races Locally

For Andrew Cuomo, it doesn't matter who his running mate is. He wins anyway......Mr. Cuomo certainly doesn't have to shore up his base by choosing a downstate liberal of color who is a woman.
That's why the Aubertine choice is not as far out as it sounds.
The effect of that ticket on NNY would be interesting.....Senator Aubertine on the top of the ticket would create large Cuomo numbers here and make the down-ballot problem in the GOP even worse.
As it is now, folks like Doheny and Ritchie have to worry how much the Cuomo-Schumer-Gillibrand-DiNapoli line-up will drag them away from victory.
The interest of Mr. Cuomo in a Long Island woman as AG candidate may explain his willingness to consider an upstate male as running mate.
Of course, this all may be a parlor game....But as political hobbyists, that's what we do !

You're darn right it would. Affect local races that is. I support Darrel. He could do nothing but add a little honesty to the Albany mix. I don't know how it is that he is being considered for the job, but I welcome it.

This ranks up their with the Obama Enquire story.

I think it would be great! Darrel has done a lot of good for our area. Why not bring the honesty and integrity even farther?!?

Signing 3 wind land leases and sending a letter to a town board saying it was ok for council members to have a financial conflict of interest with a wind developer while making decisions on behalf of that developer is not exactly a sign of integrity.
Darrel paved the way for the corrupted town government in Cape Vincent. Darrel will not win the majority of the votes in his home town this fall.

I always thought Darrel was an honest guy too, until he signed contracts with wind developers on his land and started pushing for industrializing the whole North Country (or Energy Valley as he has named it) at the expense of the majority of people whose land will be devalued. He has used his office to endorse unethical behavior in his hometown of Cape Vincent. Are we so used to unethical behavior in our politicians that we can honestly say that Darrel is more honest than most of them? Mayor Graham, are you not paying attention to the scandal in Cape Vincent? Darrel wrote a letter to town board members that have wind contracts, telling them they need to vote on a wind law that would allow turbines all throughout Cape Vincent. All of them will directly benefit financially from this. Is this not unethical?

You have got to be kidding me! Look what we got when Spitzer picked Patterson.

What everyone is forgetting that Cuomo has the Gay and pro abortion groups to think about. Not to mention how downstate will react based upon Aubertine's vote on the farm labor bill.

Not going to happen. Ego control needed.

And jeopardize the Democrats' control of the state senate? That'd be a classic Pyrrhic victory. Sure they'd have the governor's mansion (which, barring an absolute scandal, is going to happen anyway, but the choice of Aubertine wouldn't help that at all), but it would plunge the Senate into 31-31 deadlock or worse, if the Republicans are able to swing another seat, loss of a seat. If Aubertine resigns to pursue that post, that makes it far easier for a Republican to take it.

Andrew Cuomo does not need upstate. The population has drained to the point where sufficient support from within the city means that upstate is powerless to stop anyone or anything. Mark my words: Cuomo's running mate will be black and be from downstate.

Let's see- anti ethics, anti farmworker, anti environment, anti choice and anti gay. I don't even want him on our team.

It strikes me to be a strategy more like the time President Kennedy selected Lyndon Johnson as his Vice President....

They likely would have to be convinced Addie Russell could hold the Senate Seat...Only June knows for sure.

I think it would give the Dems an opportunity to create a new image for themselves statewide. Currently, they are about crooks. You got yer Shelly Silver thugs, Monseratte girlfriend slicers, Pedro who knows whats, Parker punks. Darrel is nothing of the sort. I think he's a honest guy. You can argue about the effectiveness aspect but I still like him. Folks, he works in a sewer. Its not always easy to look clean in that environment. The Dems have a chance to remake their party image by choosing Darrel. It would help them a great deal if they did so.

riiight...Darrel only looks out for himself with windpower?

Sewer? The biggest floater in the toilet is a guy named Joe Bruno and actually convicted- NOT a Dem!

besides not being as clean as some like to make him, Darrel makes Patterson look completely qualified.

The more people "market" a product, and yes, candidates or prospective candidates are products just like new toothpaste or a new car ... then sprinkle in the tons of money to their slick and professional PR angles it usually catches on ... why is that?

Are we so shallow to keep falling for this kind of hype and/or gimmicks like TV sales pitches?

-- I know, I know "it politics," but on the other hand, isn't it precisely what's wrong today.

You figure out what I mean... then fire away.

Mr. Aubertine asked me for my vote before he moved to the state level. I expressed a concern on some known graft in the county of Jefferson and asked what he would do about it if elected. he responded that he would act upon it legally, once elected. To this, I replied, ' O.K., we will see how sincere you are. I do not trust you enough to vote for you. However, since you contacted me, then you have my telephone number. I do hope you are elected to prove me wrong and that after you are elected you will have me sit down with you and act on your promise. '.....That was several years ago and Mr. Aubertine has never responded. As a citizen I am sorry that my instincts about him were right. As a voter, I am glad I was not wrong. In my opinion, he is just another politician for sale.

Juston: Good question ...

My answer/and or position lies somewhere opposite of what I post about ...

I post to raise questions and concerns that I have and like to share with others for what its worth (i.e., if I talk down big money that means I am against it ... about slick PR campaigns and marketing of candidates as products, etc., may be appealing but not the same as the candidate standing up on a debate and looking the people in the eye and answering their questions.

Figuring me out is not difficult.

Even those candidates that are up there on the podium at these debates say one thing do another, once elected no matter how much money is involved.Although I tend to agree with you on marketing the canididate as if they were some high paid athlete. The thing is its been going on for so long, good luck with your mission. If you had the money and the TV ads to help you wuould you take advantage of it YES you would.....

Dannie, you're upset with PR campaigns? I understand. I'm with you on that one.

As far as Darrel. I sense two basic shots being taken at Mr A. And they seem to be related to one deal. Ya think he's a crook because he supported wind and he has some land interest down at the Cape which could make him some bucks if they build spinners down there. OK. I don't agree but that does seem to be the only real axe you folks have to grind.

I think we are at a real crossroads with this wind issue. I'm not against wind towers. I'm not against them being built here. I think they can be built safely and economically and I believe they can pay fair levels of taxes. As far as tax breaks, I don't understand them. I don't get them, I just pay them. The Free Stuff people get their money from people like me. But if you live near the Gulf of Mexico, you might be asking why people in other parts of the country aren't carrying their share of the burden of energy production. Maybe the people griping so much about their view should turn in the keys to their SUV's if they don't want to be inconvenienced in any way regarding energy production. I also have never been able to understand why some folks can love Obama but hate wind production efforts in their own community. I guess this is the ME generation. But back to Darrel. I believe for the most part he stayed remarkably disconnected with the process. I didn't see much of his influence at all. And if he was solely motivated by profits he could have done a lot to steer outcomes. Last I saw there still are no spinners in Cape Vincent. Although you have a great view of some beauties right in front of your face, courtesy of the Queen.

If you Dems want to link Darrel with this one issue and attempt to damage him accordingly, I think you're nuts. But then again I'm not a Donkey.

the one letter by Darrel, following his vote was all it took to grease his own skids.

Hate Fox News.
Hate the Tea Party.

Tiny Timmy,

What's up with all this hatred? I don't support Aubertine because in this state ANY democrat will be controlled by NYC interests. I know Darrel personally and he is a great guy with good intentions, but that doesn't mean he's the right politician to represent Northern New York.

To your other points: I am not in favor of the wind farms either. I could care less if you built them in the middle of North Dakota, or even Lewis County for that matter but don't you even think of ruining the St. Lawrence Shoreline!
Love the teaparties! Get over it, they are not racists, or extremeists! Fox News is biased, regardless of this it is still better than ABC News, CBS News, MSNBC, CNN & all others.

Any Democrat controlled? Look at the facts. What about Republicans controlled by Long Island?

What had the former majority done for us in 40 years? Improve our economy? No. Funnel more school aid to us? No. Long Island is prospering though.

The fact is those downstate dems wanted nothing more than to pass gay marriage and the farm worker bill because of the money it would raise for them in campaigns. Darrel voted his conscience on the former (I don't agree with him) and fought to ensure the right thing was done on the other (he is right on this one).

Those downstate dems will try another end around with that bill because they need the money and think that cures all ills, but aubertine has proven he's up to the fight.

I never saw Wright stand up to Skelos and I voted for Jim every two years even though it didn't matter because I think he made a solid senator for us. Much the same as Darrel now.

Patty Ritchie sure as hell wont do anything to stand up for us. Give us another petition there Patty.

10:38 I disagree with you on a lotta stuff. But you seem to be a real compromiser. Just the kinda guy who can git along with everybody. A reeely neat guy. Variable standards on everything. Wanna meet for dinner?

It'll be fun!

I promise not to ask two hard questions in a row.

@ 10:38,

I said NYC, not Long Island. Besides the Republicans aren't the majority in Nassau & Suffolk Counties. Republicans haven't firmly held those districts since the 80's. I also hate to break it to you, Long Island is not thriving. Although if you compared it to many other parts of the country you could say that it was doing better, but certainly not thriving. SUNY Stony Brook is closing several large departments becaues of the economic downturn. Ever looked at buying a house in Nassau County? I have and if you expect to pay anything less than $600K for a decent house you are dreaming. What is happened to the Island is the result of ubran yuppies moving out there and bringing with them their love of government programs and pie-in-the-sky ideas about taxation. Those are the facts. There's going to be a teaparty in Hicksville this weekend, I invite everyone to attend (that is if you belong to our secret neo-con club). haha
