Early to Bed Lawmakers Spar with Night Owls Over Park Rules

City Council continued it's review of rules for city parks and placed no hours of operation on the Fairgrounds (except for picnic and trail areas)....Lawmakers also agreed to leave Thompson Park open until midnight...three hours later than the current closing.
That's an improvement as harsh restrictions were placed on parks following the post-Woodstock era.
Councilmembers will grapple next week with open container restrictions which forbid a beer with your grilled burger unless you go to the PD the day before and get a permit.
When ask how all those people drink at the Syracuse Symphony Concert, Council was told someone got a permit for all those thousands of people.
That led to questions about the permit process and a continuation of discussions next week.
Still unresolved is finding a legal method to accomodate use of the deck at Whitewater Park.
A spirited discussion of the old days at the Park left younger Council members puzzled about how people could actually be out late at night having a good time.
"Nothing good happens after midnight," said one Councilman.

Funny how Woodstock impacted local governments' parks and recreation rules decades later.

Enjoyed the live webcast of the City Council Meeting on WWW,nnynewscow.com

If you can't attend the meeting, you can see it live.

WWW.steveweedproductions.com posts the Council meetings as video on demand and on Time Warner Cable.

Like a vampire rising, the deck issue can not remain buried for long.....

Just one more place the police will need to respond to besides the number of bar fights.

Jeff, tell me one reason the park needs to remain open past dark i.e. 10 pm?

The councilman who said "nothing good happens after midnight" is right all you have to do is read the police blotter and see it is full of DWI arrest from midnight to 3:00 AM.

"Nothing happens after midnight, said one Councilman" (man?) ... um that means Smith or Butler (surely not Graham)? If a Councilwoman, my view stays this way:

Maybe nothing for them after midnight. But, if their life is stuck in 2nd gear, then they need a new life ... but they should not try to impose their moral view/or narrow opinion in
government policy ... IMHO>

I don't have a problem with the park , but what protections do you have for the zoo, itself? I would forsee potential issues arising, from some unruly characters. This is not the 60's or 70's; face the music, some folks these days are just hell-bent on mischief with serious consenquences.

The park should be free and open 24 hours to anyone of any persecuted class. If you are receiving Free Stuff for any reason, alcoholism, drug addiction, you're old, you're young, your tall, gimpy, limpy, live near a blown out oil well, or just feel anxiety for any reason, the pary is on us. Otherwise, drive your late model SUV on up the hill and enjoy the sweet smell of clean air, but pay cash money. If you have a protected class individual in your vehicle, say, a gay guy or an Eskimo, you can get in half price. Regular tax payers who work are charged full price and will be restricted to the hours of noon till 3pm, Mon-Thur, excluding Govt holidays and school snow days.

Snow White and 2 of the Dwarfs
(who by the way get in free)
