-Ogdensburg native Mindy Lawton got a mention in the Boston Herald, although the media blackout in her hometown continues. What is hard to believe in this story is how a 32 year old having an affair with a married man could retractively claimed such naivete.
-An inspiring game by tiny Butler college last night in almost winning the National Championship....losing to Duke by just 2 points.
-Critics say he threw the first pitch like a girl, but I can sympathize with President Obama's arcing floater of a first pitch at the Nationals home opener. In front of the crowd, something as natural as throwing a ball a short distance becomes nerve wracking...not because he isn't used to crowds, but its a guy thing.... So worried about not making the plate, you look worse with the high trajectory and a moment saved by an agile catcher able to catch the errant orb.
Some of the older readers may have been reminded of the Yankee lefty reliever Steve Hamilton, who would occasionally throw the "folly floater". Surely the President as a child may have seen Hamilton throw the pitch to the White Sox.
-Retiring Fire Chief Milt Sayre received a standing O at Mondays City Council meeting as he was honored with a First Citizen award for his 35 years of service to the Department.
-While I was at the Council meeting, Patty Ritchie reportedly visited Pearl Street to consult with bartender Diana. Meanwhile, I will report.....wait, I am not a reporter....I will share my impressions of the Doheny announcement for Congress which is Wednesday morning. While not invited per se, I will go as a political tourist just to see what's happening. Yes, we will be checking out the "optics" of the 9AM event.

Here's a random issue: Good reason to ignore the TEA party mob rules:
Background on NJ U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez: Upset at the senator’s stance on health care, TEA Party advocates filed suit in New Jersey Superior Court seeking to be allowed to begin collecting 1.3 million voters’ signatures to put the question of recalling Menendez on the November ballot — a tactic the New Jersey Secretary of State’s office has said violates federal supremacy in federal elections.
UPDATE: NJ constitution says a U.S. senator can be recalled... the case is moving forward.
So, remove a Senator for one vote you don't like? It's a very, very dangerous precedence ... Amounts to not rule of law, but rule of the mob (TEA party rules).
Update Here
Not democracy -- not at all.
Dan...Recall is a provision written into law in many states by the Progressives of the early 20th Century.....
Aren't you a Progressive ?...that's the term of art these days for liberal, big government types.
But I suspect taking care of Mr. Menendez in the next election may be an easier drill than collecting that many signatures....which will of course be challenged by the team of party lawyers whose job it is to make sure the public doesn't get to uppity.
Poor Danny just can not stand the common man having a say in how this country is ran. Need only to be the Upper class as he portrays to be. I think he should run for office!!
This won't go far . It went through the New Jersey courts because iy's in New Jersey law. however, he is a UNITED STATES Senator. There is nothing in the Constitution or federal law that allows for a recall. Dead on arrival
Interesing, isn't it, that the Constitution worshipping Teabaggers aren't looking at the Constitition here. Mob hypocrisy.
And that's the way it is when people like Dan and 4:06 are deathly afraid. They have to label people. Teaparty folks just don't trust government. That doesn't make 'em bad people. To Dannie, that's the worst thing a person can possibly be. He believes in government answers for every problem. It has worked for him. Dan, it is so predictable. Back in the Revolution days you would have been right there on the sidelines, cheering for the British and their higher taxes. As long as you want to call people names, calling the Tea Party people a mob. I'll call you a coward. You never really fought for anything in your life. Certainly not lately.
ASSumptions,ASSumptions,ASSumptions
That's the way you righties operate. ASSume people you disagree with don't work, ASSume people you disagree with have never fought for anything,ASSume you could possibly know historical associations from two hundred and forty years ago. Yeah, the Teabaggers are mob hypocrisy. Name calling? Just look at their signs. You wackos started this and now you cry "name calling". Well back at ya Teabagger, and never ASSume someone you don't even know is a coward.
I didn't say that. You're the ASS in this converstation. I simply asked about your Democratic prospects if people who had no job could not vote. I understand you wiggling on the question, but give it a go. Try to give an honest answer. Try to do anything honestly. The reason you are reacting with lies and misrepresentations is you are caught in your own bs. You KNOW that if it wasn't for the bum class, you and yours would be out of power instantly. You've purchased enough votes with giveaways that working people have been marginalized. Until they learn to stick together, you will continue to win elections. And that's good, for you. But don't get mad. Makes you sound like Dannie.
And the TeaParty, which you are so afraid of you have to do the bag thing. Suggestion, try to come up with something new, on your own. Dan, I love ya whens ya git mad.
Nah, it's your words. Can't remember them? Go back and reread your posts.
Yeah, another Teabagger hypocrite like the ones that want the government out of healthcare while they're enjoying Medicare. You're the one always calling the Dem voters lazy and bums and is hung up on who is working and not. My money says you're sitting on your big fat ass collecting some form of benefits, all the while bitching about others. Yeah, you're a lazy, slacker, Teabagger pointing the finger at others while hiding behind anonymity is my guess. I'll bet you haven't worked in at least ten years, ya hypocrite.
Uh, no. I work. I have always, since being a NYer, worked for government, but I've at least been employed. My ass is not fat. But I could stand to lose a few. Actually, I've appreciated how you folks have sacrificed the futures of your own kids so people like me can live a more comfortable lifestyle.I don't think its fair to your kids. But you believe in this government stuff, so you can't yell at me for picking up the check you so graciously offer. The problem is not the rank and file government worker, it is the programs grow, despite their lack of effectiveness. The politics of hiring. The interagency rivalry that makes long term planning less effective and more costly. These are among of few of the govs problems. The employees are often caught in the middle of the lying politicians and misinformed voters and parents. After awhile, you shut up and keep the money. Its much better for your career that way.
Bottom line, in government and in education, the people are not getting anything near what they are paying for.I don't know if they don't know, don't care, or don't think they can make a difference with a system so far out of control.
Whataya think, Dannie. No work, no vote. Where would your Donkie party be? Its a fair question. From what I'm seeing not one of you has the gonads to honestly approach it.
where did the no/no idea comefrom? there's no law you have to work, and there's no law you have to vote. people who live on trust funds and other assets they've built up are certainly entitled to vote. would you deny disabled vets the right to vote? How about veterans of the Korean war etc? How about wives who stay home to run the house? Is that a job? What about kids in college? Give it up.
Well Sir, I specifically noted retired folks and disabled folks. But I understand your desperate wigglings. Homemakers have been recognized as having economic worth for many years, so I don't understand your point on that one. Its the Libs who usually want to denigrate them. So I see no reason to give anything up.
Where would you be, Donkey Boy, if you couldn't vote if you weren't gainfully employed? You know where you'd be. You'd be a party without people. You'd have unions, gays, Dannies, Government employees, illegal immigrants, teachers, and environmental nuts. PROVIDING they had jobs.
We all know what I'm saying is absurd. But the problem with this country is a perception. One held by an increasing number of people that if you work for a living you are a fool. You are better off getting a grant, go on welfare, work for the government, "claim" a disability when you don't have one, or otherwise get someone else to pay your bills. When we convince the middle class that work has no value, and we are dangerously close, this house of boloney will come down faster than you can say bailout.
