Blankenbush Runs in Possible Dustup with DeDe

Jefferson County Legislature Chairman Ken Blankenbush has confirmed weekend rumors and told the WDT's Jude Seymour he is indeed seeking the Republican nomination for Assembly in the 122nd.
Current Assemblywoman Diedre Scozzafava has not stated her intentions, although it is widely thought she will run.
If she does the race becomes a grudge match pitting grumpy Republicans against DeDe over how she handled her disastrous Congressional race last year, including her withdrawal from the race and endorsement of Democrat Bill Owens.
Mr. Blankenbush represents the Black River area and was deeply involved in the recent PILOT deal with Big Wind.
He is an affable fellow and has been easy to work with from my perspective.
At 62, I cannot fathom why he wants in this briar patch, but to each their own.

Go get her Kenny!

I hear he is a supporter for term limits. So at 62 I hope he can go in there and get things done like the positions were originally intended to be and not a career.

We need change in Albany. Blankenbush is not change. He is a Jim Wright lapdog.

If the Jeff. County GOP ever wants to resurrect itself, it needs new blood. Kenny is just same old, same old.

Simple enough:

Deeply-seeded GOPer announces challenge to long-time fav, but now troubled incumbent.

Aforementioned TI (*troubled incumbent) feels heat, drops out.

DS (*deeply-seeded) GOPer wins hands down.

'nough said. Same old, same old.

Why would anyone consider Blanekebush for assembly. DeDe has done the job and very well for years. Last fall DeDe decided to get out of a lost race and support the best canidate. That was not the most popular decision but it was the best for her constituants. Thats her job. The only thing against her is a small group of pissed off party hardliners most of the last generation..Let him run he cant be any bigger fool than he is now..

What Mayor Graham considers affable and easy to work with means he will do whatever the GOP tells him to do in order to get ahead.

We need an independent thinker. That is one thing B'Bush is not.

I'm very surprised that this is the best the local Republicans can do for this office. I don't know the man, but isn't it time for some new blood? I'll give him a fair listen. Dede gave us Congressman Owens. That's not something I'll forget. Not when my healthcare is now controlled by Nancie Pelosi.

5:55 Good point on Healthcare!

Hey 5:55 Dede didn't give you Owens. Doug Hoffman did, along with Mike Long, Dick Armey, Glenn Beck and all the other outsiders that stole our election from the local people.

Assemblywoman Scozzafava gave us all a win when she helped saved us from the Hoffman campaign. I admire her.

Come on wake up, Dede bailed out and jumped ship to support Owens. It also should be very obvious now how crooked she and her brother are with their business dealings.
She shoudn't have a chance!!

Funny how the Mayor allows comments about Dede but won't post comments about Ken.

Funny how 843 doesn't know what he or she is talking about...
There is nothing edited unless its of a cheap shot nature...
Thats what helps make this blog be read by hundreds every day...
As for Scozzafava's effect on the final result...An analysis of votes shows her actions did indeed tip a close race in Mr. Owen's direction....That was her intent, so she succeeded.

"...Come on wake up, Dede bailed out and jumped ship to support Owens..." Again, had Hoffman been a man of his word and supported the Republican nominee, we would not even be having this discussion, because she would be in Congress today and Blankenbush would be running unopposed. It is a little early for revisionist history.

Who cares about what she did, in the end Hoffman was the one who split the ticket, along with ripping her down.Calling himself the savior, what he did up here did more damage to the party than she could do in six more elections.10:13 Very well put glad to here someone else gets it the problem is democrats have the edge becouse the top guys wont listen to the comitee people,no primary thats how they are winning going with one canidit.Wake the f@c# up people or keep loosing..!!!!!!

Hoffman ran on what he believed. Dede did the same, but when the going got tough, she ended up believing in something she never told us about. Owens. In other words, she lied. Anyone should be able to run, but you should be able to change your beliefs with two minutes left in the game. That just proves she had no beliefs in the first place. Either way, the problem now is Pelosi running our district by having a collar around the neck of our little lap dog from Plattsburg. That won't stand if my vote can help it. We cannot afford any more spending. This year has been a disaster. Next year promises to be more of the same. If we leave the same people in power, with local shams like Owens to bow wow to them, we are one cooked nation. But that's ok, I'm ready to retire on your dime. I can adapt. The joke will be on your kids.

There was no cheap shots in either of my comments that you failed to post. They had all facts that can be proven but since they were about your drinking buddy at Pete's you would not post them. I can't wait till 2011 when Bulter takes 68% of the vote for Mayor.

Blankenbush passed BIG WIND tax breaks for billionaires and it STINKS. These are industrial blight projects that we don't need and that will raise our power prices. Anyone trying to sell a waterfront property in Jefferson County right now has Ken to blame. Anybody not happy about Henderson suing Hounsfield had Ken to blame. If he can't provide leadership to a county how will he do so for a State. He is only running at 62 to scam a bigger retirement check for himself. Spending tax dollars is all he knows. He has never created any value.

Blankenbush is a blakenbrain. Vote for someone, anyone else.

Hey bub, if you don't like the editing here, start your own blog.

What is Ken's platform? More tax breaks for Big Wind and whatever Jim Wright tells him to do? At 62 years old, he won't get anything done in that mess of Albany. I think previous post is right on. He is just looking to pad his retirement on the back of New York tax payers. What a shame.

He did not just pass tax breaks for big wind - he single handedly made them happen in secret meetings with the developer, Don Alexander and two of the legislators whose votes he needed to flip. He did not "pass BIG WIND" he was the driving force. Down with Blankenbush as legislator, down with Blankenbush as Assemblywoman!

I just wish the "Donald " would run so we could vote him out.

Blankenbumble stinks as a candidate

I can't think of two people who lost more credibility than Blankenbush and Alexander. Those guys lost big by playing the game they played on this wind deal. But I believe the people who hate them are trying to have it both ways. They love the Great One's alternative energy crap but hate it when its nearby. Hypocrites all. This entire deal is a great example of why people should never go into politics. They should just sit on the sidelines and bitch. And they should do so anonymously. That's what I do.

There Dannie. I just took a good shot at myself. Are you happy now? I even feeeeeeel bad. Maybe I'll qualify for some kind of counseling or, praise God, a disability. Look into it for me, Dan. Please.

We only get the politicans we deserve, be it AJR, Jim Wright, John Mchugh, whoever, Apathy is the key here, We all complain about Govt. spending yet we rally around NOW, JCIDA, WLDC to continue on their merry way of spending and giving money to the well connected. Do you honestly think the Woolworth bldg. is a viable project? How many more low income apts do we need? How much more low priced commercial space do we need? I'll have up and listen for the answer.
