Young Will Comes Down from the Mountain on Monday

Assemblyman Will Barclay is building some excitement on whether or not he runs for Congress in NY23....
Mr. Barclay tells the WDT he has made up his mind and will share his intentions on Monday.....On the surface, one would think he must be running as why drag it out if you are bailing out.
If he is in, Barclay joins CPA Doug Hoffman and businessman Matt Doheny as candidates for the GOP nomination.
Will Barclay brings to the race experience as a lawmaker and a family name that is respected in political circles. Unfortunately for him this is an outsider year in politics and his ties to Albany will not help.
The Barclay family comes from Pulaski in Oswego County and he has deep roots in that area. His father was a state senator and an ambassador.
In a 2008 Senate race, Barclay lost to Senator Darrel Aubertine in a race in which Barclay's patrician roots were made an issue. The fact he attended prep school prompted Democrat Ted Ford to label him "the Barclay lad."
Barclay is an affable, well-spoken centrist/conservative but would have a tough time fundraising against Hoffman and Doheny who have a big head start. The Assemblyman has been attending party functions around the district.
Guess we will know for sure on Monday.

Streetalk says the lad has been skipping political events and not answering media calls....hmmmm. Not very campaignesque unless he thinks he has it all wrapped up.

Or he is bowing out. He and his family took a beating against Aubertine and I would not blame him at all for not wanting to got through that again. I think most of his supporters would end up in Doheny's camp, which would be great for the republican party.

It is creepy how will Barclay looks like Hoffman's son.

The best thing he can do is to work fulltime toward bring sanity back to Albany; he has the clout to play a major role there. His entry into the Congessional race would split the "rational" GOP primary vote with Doheny, thus handing the wingnut CPA (who can't balance his own campaign treasury books!) the GOP line and assuring an Owens/Pelosi victory. Let's hope he will do the right thing---his dad always did; now it is is turn. Jeff, as a keen independent observer, you must agree---correct?

Will Barclay has fought hard in Albany and considering our current affairs in Albany I think he sees opportunity for leading a charge in Albany.

7:21am - I hope you are right. I think Will would be great in the state race. He and Doheny are too similar and it will take both of their supporters to team up together to squash Hoffman and later Owens. I would give Will a lot of credit if he chooses not to run in the congressional race.
