While Albany Fiddles, Taxpayers are About to Get Burned

I guess Reverand Al tried to throw Governor Paterson under the bus at the meeting of black leaders called to decide the fate of the Governor. Really, it's their decision not ours. There is a sentiment of support for Paterson, given the suspicion that this firestorm of bad stuff and bad press must have been ready to unleash if the Governor had not been willing to yield to the Cuomo candidacy.
Paterson finally dropped out of the race but by then, party leaders had already unleashed the nuclear option and Paterson is having trouble recovering.
This is all good theater, but keep one eye on the budget process...We small business owning tax payers along with all New Yorkers are in for a serious beat down when it comes to taxes....The sugar tax is just the tip of the spear that is going to be rammed into all of us in order to keep all the six figure state workers living in the manner they are accustomed.
Paterson must now be sacrificed on the altar of bigger government and higher taxes.

Throwing money at everything fixes things doesn't it? Could it be the that the incompetence in Albany have no idea what to do and they have to resort to this "theater" to pass the time and distract us as the people they represent suffer? Time to make the lot of them accountable. Their day has come and gone.

City thugs have controlled state government for decades. Look at the APA as an example of the city folks protecting their second homes' "tranquility" at the expense of the north country. They don't give a damn about hard working citizens.

But you people will go back there and vote in another member of the only political party you play with. There is no discussion over whether the next Gov will be Cuomo, it has to be, as you people are stupid. A one party system, of either party, gives you these results. You have King Shelly running the state and none of you are even close to doing anything about it. Cuomo, Gilllibrand, Schmuck, Shilver, and every head of agency is the same. You love it. So really, the voter should shut up about it and prepare to pay taxes upon taxes.

Ah yes…the new taxes, but you fail to mention the tens of thousands, or perhaps hundreds of thousands, of dollars the state will accrue in interest charges for the money it will borrow as the budget fails to be adopted on April 1st.

I vote for Bill Clinton to be our next govenor. He would know how to fix our budget, and take the steps to get it done,;Give him one term to straighten out this mess top-to-bottom.Dreaming, perhaps, but in reality, this is the type of person to straighten out our budget mess, and bring us on the road to a surplus. It's going to take someone outside of our state political system , as well as someone immune to our state unions and special interests. I'm nobody, but I have looked at the 80 plus state agencies, and at least 30, are duplication of effort, freeze all state wages for at least 1-2 years, enact tax cuts for the people and small businesses, and cut the foolishness in our state legislature.

I have advocated wage freezes for government employees at all levels and all teachers for the last 7 years. Instead, teacher salaries have averaged a 4-5% increase with state empoyees rise at an average of 3-4%. That is NOT including increases in benefits. In a state that should be tightening it's belt, that's not it.

When schools speak of budget cuts they are lying. Media supports the lies and people don't know what to believe. Or education system and public employee unions emply an army of professionals whose job it is to lie. You government certainly isn't going to look out for you.

"All politics are local" We've been getting burned by local pols for years, no sense blaming it on the next higher level of govt.

My school taxes are going up 4% based on years of them not being high enough, or so says the IRCS.

8:46, the rate increase is probably to pay for that new sports position IRCS needs , because some other schools have it. Just like the need to have synthetic turf fields, but the pros are getting away from, because of an increase in injuries. What ever happened to going to school to get an education? What ever happened to the days of teaching ,in school,to give all children an education?I am sure that there are teachers who take thier jobs seriously to educate our children, not just a paycheck. Then there are those :(some teachers, administrators, or whatever other titles that can be concocted) are there for the money laundering. That is , wringing as much money out of your pockets, as possible.

8:46, sorry, but I'm glad your taxes are going up. I'm sorry the increase is only 4%. Your school officials will no doubt have better luck next year. You see, people like you have let this go for years. You have listened to the the lies for years. You've been afraid to stand up for years. Now you're crying on blogs and complaining about tax rates. Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn about you or people like you. You're like a guy who has been buying his 15 year old daughter beer and marijuana for a couple years and now can't understand why she's pregnant. The reason, my dear Sir, is you're an idiot. I mean, nothing personal, but you're a fool. Anyone who has done what WE have done for the last decade plus with our schools and now acts surprised is a damn idiot. Our only hope is to sue the schools for not getting our money's worth when we had our time in the classroom. We'd have a hell of a case. You know lawyers.
