RACE ON...OWENS TO VOTE YES....FOES SAY BRING IT ON !

Finally, after the issue was all but settled, NNY Congressman Bill Owens did what everyone expected and said he will vote for the Senate Health Care Bill.
This tees up the ball for either Matt Doheny or Doug Hoffman....the possible GOP opponents who both opposed the bill and plan to make the November election a referendum on Owens support for the President.
Mr. Owens statement is attached so you can check out his reasoning.
Owens will vote to improve, increase coverage for hundreds of thousands of Upstate New Yorkers

The right public policy is to vote "yea" for health care reform. There is no debate on that issue. The political aspects is debatable for Rep. Owens. A "nay" would lose him the support of a good portion of his base. But it is very doubtful that people who voted against him last year would support him this year because of a "nay" vote on health care. Thus, his "yea" vote is his best choice politically too. This doesn't mean he'll win this year. It's just his best choice.

Its not a done deal yet but hurah for Mr. Owens.. Typical GOP reaction, something that helps Northern New Yorkers they would be against. Mr. Doheny in his wealthy surroundings would not understand the plight of the average citizen and Hoffman is too stupid...

Good job, Congressman Owens. You could have easily ducked the controversial issue and done what was politically expedient, but, instead, you showed that you're a man of integrity who has his own voice and does what is best for the citizens of New York's 23rd.

Kudos.

Yes, congratulations on your half-term-limited time in Washington.

As my early internet program used to say...

"Good Bye."

This bill if it passes will benefit thousands in this district and we all know it, but many hardliners won't admit it (at least publicly) ...

If the bill needs adjustments, then adjust it as we proceed along. We did with SS, Medicare, the GI Bill and other important programs -- we should have not fear about moving forward.

As far as the GOP on this: sure being it on ... but, I'll be standing with Owens on this "Yes" vote. So you'll have to go through me and those like me first with your carping nonesense and RNC/GOP talking points -- good luck on that one.

I welcome that challenge. People are going to like this bill once they get used to it...

Those now opposed, watch them line up later and rejoice to gain points and stay in office by saying it is helping those in need ... count on that, too.

12:20 - so let me ask this - where would his base go? Defect to a Republican, I don't think so. A "no" vote would have been politically safe, the GOP can't attack him and his base in the end will stay home.

1:30 - please articulate why it best for the residents of the 23rd district. I tend to think it is not good, but I cannot tell you why yet until it starts to play out. I am interested to read your logic.

If you click on the link, there's four paragraphs under the title IMPACT ON THE NORTH COUNTRY that articulate it pretty well. :-)

3:05 - Good point. My answer is that, being disappointed with a "no" vote, some of Rep. Owens' base will not vote at all. While election dynamics are unpredictable, especially this far out, even the defection of a couple of percentage points of supporters on this issue could cost him the election. My guess is that by the time the election comes around, the economy and jobs will be the key issues and health care reform, if passed, will diminish, but not disappear, as a concern in the minds of most voters.

Dohney - congressman - just what the GOP's needs: another "No" vote on any/everything.

Way to see the future. I wager that Doheny's pals on Wall Street are pissed about health care passing except those with huge insurance/and health care portfolios... about to increase by 30 million new premimums each month... watch the market go off the charts when health care kicks in...

Well I am so surprised that Owens bent over for Naaancy. I knew he had to think about it and fluff his pillow and look at the Donkey mirror on the wall before doing what he was going to do all along. What courage it must have taken to lie all these past days about how tough things were.

I'm just one person. I sure hope he and Naaancy are sent packing soon. The nation cannot stand such dishonesty much longer.

Owens, how does it feel to be such a puppet?

This bill promotes ABORTION!!! The enemy is not the far right, the enemy is the extreme left that runs Washington.

Anonymous said...

Well that's not what 23MD said. He said it barred use of funds for abortion. Now the Dems themselves are fighting over it. Fact is, anybody can say anything. This is the America we have created.

From now on it is everyone for themselves. Just as it has been for some people in the past. Its best that we all learn that lesson now.

The bill doesn't promote abortion any more than it promotes mammograms or lung x-rays.

They are all legal medical procedures and, although a few religions, of the many that are tolerated in the United States, has a stick up their ass about our founding fathers' Supreme Court deeming it a protected and private procedure, it is the law of the land.

I think any health care legislation should recognize that it is completely and totally legal. That's not promoting it. That's following American law, a law that, among true patriots, should trump religious doctrine.

Libertarians will agree.

Bulls#it 1:30. Until now federal funds have been blocked as being used to fund abortions. Dems have lied about this legislation, saying taxpayerfunds were still blocked from being used. Now we see this is another lie pucked put by Naaaancie Pelosi and the First Black President from Chitown. Seconded by all the governement loving pigs who have no problem lying about anything to get their political agenda through. Be careful NY23inMD, you're own kids may find out what a lying sack of sh#it you are and then where will you be. People do pay a price for lying. Maybe not right away but certainly down the line.

Mindy should address the abortion issue by telling us all the reasons why an anti-abortion person would get pregnant accidentally.

Thank the gods Hoffman didn't win, eh?? If he had somehow pulled the upset he could have been the No vote that defeated Obama's ObamaCare plan. Now, maybe Owens' Yes vote can be the one that brings home Obama's victory! Whoda thunk the NY-23 race last year was this big a deal? And, will Owens' Yes vote help Hoffman kick his ass this year?? Stay tuned...

I didn't realize, EJ, that you had any personal knowledge of any Gods. Most of the time you post you dismiss that topic as worthy only of stupid people. I'm surprised you'd bring 'em up now.

Prez Obama said he's gonna sign an exectutive order to stop abortions? I'm supposed to trust that! OBAMA LIES!!!!! Owens condones abortion. He lies!!!! Obama can overturn his executive order any time he wants!!

Abortion is a crime that will destroy America. We must ignore the supreme court and defend the unborn.

They're dark sided! lol

Anonymous said...

Mindy, I understand your stand on the unborn...What about the same compassion for the people that face medical circumstances(including pregnancy) without affordable health insurance.Do you care as much about the born as the unborn?

The only thing worse than this is the Big Wind agreement voted by the gang of 8.

4:17 I'm just glad adding 35 million to the free healthcare rolls is going to save money.

As far as abortions, pregnancy, in this day and age, is more than a medical circumstance. It is a failure to use your brain. I'll defer to your expertise in this area.

Fool.
