From the other side of the Mountains comes this analysis on NY23 by the recently dormant "WhatsUP NY23" blogger. While long a supporter of Doug Hoffman for Congress, our anonymous friend (and he/she need not be because its well written) counters the view being advanced by the MSM that the refusal to take a loyalty pledge to support the GOP nominee is a problem for Hoffman in his coming primary against Matt Doheny.
Hoffman has said only he can secure both the GOP and Conservative Party lines so therefore he has the best shot at defeating Rep. Bill Owens. There is truth to that theory but many Republican leaders privately say Mr. Hoffman is being arrogant and that he is too tea partyish and quirky to beat the smooth as glass Mr. Owens.
The fear everyone hangs out there is another three way race if Mr. Doheny wins the September primary.
The late date of the primary is problematic for the GOP....Even Doheny supporters concede this...But you have to play the hand you are dealt and a convincing win by Doheny in the primary would in effect cause a Conservative-only candidacy by Hoffman to fold, even though he technically cannot get off the ballot.
Watertown Daily Times has another piece up about Doug Hoffman having the Conservative line for the 2010 NY-23 congressional race

I have a real problem with whats wrong with running for office on two party lines. I believe the object is to win.. I said win not Whine....
AFter watching the recent debate I can predict Doheny will not be the GOP canidate in the fall. He would have better luck just being who he is... Who is he anyway?
He is, in fact, a carpetbagger from Wall Street who just wants to be congressman for his resume. Then he wants to take the DC contacts he makes to go back to the financial world and make more money and loosen regulations on consumer protections. Problem is he won't win the GOP nod for NY-23.
Sure is nice that the Hoffman organization has weighed in......things must be quiet in the mountains today. they just don't see that their Deer in the Headlights is a fringe, way outside the mainstream of CNY and NNY, extreme rightwing radical lapdog. Just call me the Discerning Dem from Oswego.
I JUST POSTED THIS COMMENT ON NY23 AND NOW I AM POSTING IT HERE BECAUSE THIS WHOLE PROCESS IF REALLY PISSING ME OFF (the post referenced in my comment refers to the extremely biased post on whatsupNY23 and not the mayor's blog post):
So because Mike Long, a single person who lives in NYC, dictated that Hoffman was going to be on the ballot, all of the voters in NY23 and the entire Republican party should just back down, despite the fact that Hoffman is a poorer candidate in the eyes of many. And then your post implies that if the voters are dumb enough to nominate Doheny...keep in mind, it would the voters who would nominate him, not a single party leader in NYC who is operating out of hubris, then it is their fault for having a three party race. Why isn't it Hoffman's fault for accepting a nomination that is not the will of the people in the district but rather an appointment made by a single party leader in NYC. Your post implies that the opinion of Mike Long is more valuable than the opinion of the voters in NY23. Why? Because Mike Long dictated his support first (knowing full well that the republicans operate through more of a democracy and will actually VOTE in their nominee at a later date)? That is just stupid logic and you know it.
You said it, the tail is wagging the dog. If Doheny drops out of the race to enable a two party runoff between Hoffman and Owens (which we already had, and oh right, Hoffman lost) I will lose all faith in our system. The fact that Hoffman is claiming his hands are tied (in the recent debate he used the word "unfortunately" when referring to the fact that he would be on the conservative party line) is ridiculous. And then he wants to bully all of the voters into nominating him because his hands are tied????? I won't stand for it. Doheny should spend the next few weeks busting his butt, get out to the people (not the part leaders but the people) ASAP and pass along his message. Then he should hold a huge rally denouncing Hoffman's bullying practice, stating that the district will not be bullied by party leaders who don't even live here and have no stake in NY23 at all. I am a voter in this district and my vote matters. I thought this was America. Mr. Hoffman: I am growing to hate everything you stand for more and more with every passing day.
off topic- now that someone has been arrested for threatening Cantor I was just wondering if the Mayor still thinks the the current violent atmosphere is just left wing whining or just maybe it's real?
oh, I know, Cantor is a Repub so the Dem complaints don't count. wake up Mayor- your love object Palin's idiotic rhetoric is inflaming the unstable on all sides.
Bring Back Barclay!!!
Will Will Win!!!
I never thought I'd post those two thoughts above, but goodness these two clowns simply are not going to make the cut. I've now watched more of the debate than I've ever actually wanted to from Plattsburg, hats off to Jude Seymour for providing that service. And it is clear that neither Hoffman or Doheny can stand up and do this job as my Member of Congress. And forget about that other guy Paul...he's too county legislatorish for me.
Will Barclay, if you or anyone from your staff read this, please reconsider and save us from ourselves. Otherwise folks, we're just contributing to the problem...Bill Owens will win, again.
Hoffman is a puppet...Has he talked about anything positive that he would like to do for the 23rd?? Rather, he has just whined , complained and criticized and parroted unity while threatening anything but..As much as I might not like what Dede did last Fall.. the more I see him and listen to him..the more convinced I become that she did the right thing.
anon 322. Amen.. DeDe did the right thing. She supported the best canidate so should you.. Hoffman is the best canidate for the GOP presently.
This Democrat thinks Hoffman should be the candidate for both the Republican and Conservative parties in every election for the next twenty-five years.
623 - HERE HERE.
I'm going to start a Democrats for Doug facebook page. He's the best thing that's happened to the Democ...wait...Republican Party since...well...
A buddy and I were at this party once. At the party, there was a gorgeous girl who we both had our eye on. Well, my buddy and I agreed that he was too drunk to make a good impression and that he would take a backseat while I introduced myself.
While she and I were hitting it off, my buddy walks up, introduces himself as my best friend and vomited all over her blouse. Needless to say, she left and neither of us got the girl.
Yeah, my buddy totally Hoffman'ed me that night. :-)
