A Letter from Matt..A Bill from Grays....and Some Junk Mail

Matt Doheny says he has travelled 20,000 miles this past Winter listening to residents of the sprawling 15,000 square mile 23rd Congressional District.
He calls it a "listen and learn" tour and in a letter to local leaders Mr. Doheny outlined some of his findings which he says show the public is "fed up and disgusted" with Congress.
The Doheny candidacy has been in operation for some time, but the candidate says he will officially announce soon...
I love how the MSM allows candidates to campaign for months but don't call them a candidate until they officially announce.
Doheny is a solid candidate with youth and enthusiasm on his side. His prospects in the GOP primary are good as party poobahs are behind him....
Name recognition and the preference of Tea Party voters are certainly things he needs to overcome in his bid to defeat fellow Republican Doug Hoffman.
By the way, has the MSM checked on Mr. Hoffman's new residence in Saranac Lake ? Check with the Franklin County clerk and the BOE...I think they are in Malone.
Anyway, this should be an interesting race as will the November battle against Rep. Bill Owens, who has been highly visible since his Ascension to DC last fall.

He is clearly doing his homework by traveling NY 23 and listening to the people. Jeff, how about posting his letter! I wish Newzjunky would do the same. JML, Potsdam.

Hes rich.. He can travel and meet people. Every where and everyone is bitching about congress, state government, local governments et. My opinion of this whole thing is he will change nothing if elected. Its alot like Lazio.. Hell say what is necessary to get elected.. The bottom line with him is NYC is where his heart is and to whom he owes. This is the very thing the Northern New York people have complained about the most.. Id really give him some thought but his NYC connection scares the hell out of me... Also the other day I read on your blog that someone thinks he is anti gun.Someone ran to his defense later. Where do you think he stands on that Has he ever stated? In my opinion Doheny vs Hoffman is the blind leading the blind. Owens vs either is a Owens victory.. Come on GOP get with it and get some decent canidates

So, you forgot to tells us about the bill from Grays and some junk mail, both of which I find more interesting than Mr. Doheny's campaign.

Unless, of course, Doheny wants to talk about what he will do to address the Democrats' plans to turn our beautiful region into a giant industrial wind complex.

Plans which will threaten home values, seasonal businesses and jobs. Plans which already have created social problems beyond repair and stifled real estate sales and growth along the Lake and river shore.

Doheny owns a gun. He can't be anti-gun. That is more Hoffman blather.

I have not formed an opinion of the wind mills yet, but I did see them along the shoreline in Western NY and they kind of pretty and completely quiet. Are there studies that indicate a decline in prop values after installation? I really don't know and am asking honestly. They were not bad like I expected but I want to learn more.

1048. I,m not intersted in whether he owns a gun or not.. I,m sure he owns as many as needed to give an impression.. Whats his views on gun ownership and the right to carry one. Does he support gun control and if so what kind of controls. Someone wrote yesterday he duck hunts. WoW.. Thats not the answer we want. We would like his views on ownership, registration, hunting our rights vs government intrusion.

Wind mills destroy property values on the waterfront. Has anyone built a new home near the Wolfe Island project lately, or sold and exisitng home at a profit? The answer is NO. Transmission lines in small lake front communities are even worse. Wind is bad for the power industry - numerous studies now demonstrating how they raise power prices for everyone and are actually contributing to more use of fossil fule because of the intermittancy of wind. Power output changes as cubed function of wind speed - meaning it goes up and down fast and utilities have to cycle fossil fuel plants to make up the slack. Wind projects are purely money grabs for politicaly connected investors. Thanks a lot to Barry Bumsby and Ken Blankenbrain.

The issue of guns is important to me also. Because he owns a gun dosnt make him pro-gun.. Let him openly state his position. He also has some very strange positions on other important issues. The wind pwr is an important issue that needs a straight answer. Up here we need to know how he would vote about our dependancy on foreign oil. My understanding is that we have plenty of domestic oil readily available and only the lobby of the conservationists prevent it from being tapped.. We need direct answers. I hear he is very strong aginst gays in the military yet there is a lot of comment about his orientation. This dosnt matter nor should it be an issue about his leadership but rather if he is a hipocrite or not.

Mayor...what did the letter say?

I love how you people operate- "I heard that a guy who knows my cousins daughter said that this guy thinks guns are going to be taken away by some guy, so it must be Doheny."

just because he hasn't had the specific conversation at your house make him an anti?

Well, I had the conversation with him. I am a staunch second amendment supporter. It is a political deal breaker for me. If a candidate is not 100% in favor of the second amendment as the PEOPLES right to bear arms, I will not vote for them.

I don't care if you hunt, dont care if you own pistols or rifles, trap shoot, duck hunt, deer hunt, plink, or just keep a shotgun under your bed for protection, All forms of legal gun ownership and useage are alright in my book.

Mr. Doheny is absolutely 100% on the side of the second amendment, period. Those of you who posted here out of honest concern have nothing to worry about.

Those of you who posted just to put out false information should get a life.

Hey RWiley-

Not for nothin here, but most everybody who lives more than 700 feet from the shoreline of the river in Cape Vincent doesn't give a crap about your friggin windmills.

You are like some idiot savant with a compulsive disorder who just HAS to write constantly about windmills.

How about this? SHUT UP! Nobody and I mean NOBODY gives a crap about you, your windmills or your crappy litle village.

All you want to do is whine and try to make your problems everybody else's. Well you know what? We don't care. And if they come to our town and want to build windmills, we'll deal with it. But we'll do it without your overreaching, never-ending line of BS.

Heh 1200.. You dont understand.. I want him to answer the questions Hes probably paid you to give the proper answers.. Cant he take a simple stance.. I,m for it Im against it... Im for it with this exception.. How could you know anymore than us what the amswer is unless your a person paid to give his answers.. If he cant take a stance or if he needs someone to answer all of his questions we need someone else in Washington. So far all Ive heard or read he has said appears to be hot air like Hoffman except he does differ on some opinions..

1:11pm - I am confused by your position. The noon guy said he spoke to him and got comfortable with his position on gun control. Why do you then assume that Doheny has paid him? That is a big leap. There has been an adequate forum for the candidates to express their views on a series of topics. Silence does not mean that the candidate does not support your view. Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't, but from the conversation the noon poster had with him, it sounds like Doheny is supporter of the 2nd Amendment. If you doubt it than talk to the candidate yourself. There are plenty of opportunities. The last thing you should do is assume Doheny has an opinion that differs with yours when you clearly have not done anything to try to learn the truth and clearly have no idea.

Anonymous said...

Both Republican nominees for Governor are far from perfect on 2nd Amendment Rights and they support a woman's right to choose...Go figure?

Anonymous said...

Who is the noon guy.Is it him, or a paid supporter, or you.I want to learn the truth about him on the issues from him in public statements. Its really not hard to say yes or say no.. Is it>I would like him on record with some substance. He has taken a position on some issues and while I differ with some of them he is on record and I commend him for that.. Unlike Mr. Lazio running around making false promises when they are impossible to keep.. Its one thing to believe in something and and stick to your belief if it differs to popular opinion. I totally agree wit his position on Gays in the military however my beliefs are biased and would be considered discrimanatory. Are his beliefs that firm that they could be discriminatory and if they are should he be running for US congress. If he discriminates against gays how do we know he wont discriminate against blacks, jew, even women all considered minorities.

It's funny Kristen G. said she had a gun under her bed to appeal to the redneck crowd, while in New York she claims the opposite, I find it interesting I can't purchase a 30 rd. magazine or clip for my mini-14 but the cops and military can have one.

I heard and watched more from the Hoffman, Maroun and Dohney “debate” for the TEA party in Plattsburgh:

It is very odd how those three and the GOP in general all hate "mandates” for things like health care for all ... but they have no qualms about clinging to:

1. Mandating English as the "official" language of the U.S. (Psst. It already is). (Hint: if you don’t want immigrants speaking Chinese or Korean or Spanish or Arabic or Hindi, then don’t allow so many in who can’t speak English).

2. Mandating health care rules for women and their health care needs and concerns.

3. Mandating that the Constitution be changed for every social issue they deem "right" i.e., to protect the flag from being burned (Hint: burning the flag is the accepted method for a worn out and tattered flag).

4. Mandating that we all have the "right to carry a gun, even strapped to our leg" and even at a public event or in church (like in Texas).

etc. etc.

Those three lack strong leadership and knowledge skills.

But, for what they lack in those areas, they have plenty in the red meat, divisive, and off the charts sound byte area.

DAN...shut up!!! No one wants to hear your negative comments anymore. If you really believe people care what you have to say start your own blog. You sound like an old tired wanna be. JUST GO AWAY!

The fact that the three Republican Candidates of the 23rd Congressional District stood together in a Public Forum is Light Years ahead of the 2009 Special Election.

This is a good start for such a large district.

The fact that our local newspaper followed the Plattsburgh event with a reporter is another positive indicator.

To those who want the facts, attend a candidate's event and find out first hand.

There is plenty of time to size up the candidates before the Primary, and might even reduce some of the the bellyaching and hearsay that is posted on this site........

"You are like some idiot savant with a compulsive disorder who just HAS to write constantly about windmills. "

Actually, anon. 12:10.

There are millions of people around the world who care about the impacts of windmills. They have created serious problems for hundreds of communities. Billions of dollars of your tax dollars are going to windmills and 73% of that money is going to europe to create jobs and opportunities in the European Union.

Coalitions have been formed from Wayne County to St. Lawrence County for discussing and making recommendations on how to handle the local impacts of wind. Seasonal businesses and jobs from Oswego County to St. Lawrence County are threatened. According to a Jefferson County legislator, 40.5 % of the tax base will be affected.

Also, your hard working Jefferson County Board of Legislators discovered these past months that wind is a hot and difficult issue to handle and we are just getting started here in the North Country. Ask any one of them if it is an issue that should be ignored.

If you live in Jefferson County, your legislators just gave a developer a 53 million dollar PILOT. And that developer was the first of as many as 8 other projects to come to Jefferson Co. JCIDA got over a million for arranging one deal alone and it came from your pocket.

Wind development and its impacts on property values, businesses and tourism will be a political issue and many will care as we approach these elections.

You can crap away your time talking about guns, gays and abortions during the election season, or you can address a real issue facing our taxpayers right here in the 48 and the 23.

Wind development.

If Doheny or any non- incumbent does not discuss the impacts of wind on property values and its threat to tourism then they have a nothing new to bring to the campaign. Like wiley said, guns, gays and abortions have been beat to death.

Wind power is a big issue for St. Lawrence, too.
Remember it was us that have been screwed over and over with promises of cheap power and opportunities from the Seaway that never came about. Wind development is about to do the same with even a bigger mess and even more expensive power.

I like Dan's comments and don't see any reason why he shouldn't be able to speak negatively about the Republican party and their candidates. Most of them do want to make what they consider progressive changes to the Constitution to ensure that their values are the law of the land. It's in their party platform.

Freedom of speech is important but Dan is SO misinformed. He makes broad accusations without a hint of truth behind any of it. And despite his ignorance on the issues and candidates, he continues to say the same thing again and again and again. For those of us who read this blog regularly it just gets old. I am fully supportive of him starting his own blog so those who want to read his commentary, informed or otherwise, can. But for those of us in the republican party who come to this blog as one of many sources of information, his words are simply in the way.
