Assembly Hopeful Visits Fort Pearl

I am really not the Oracle at Pearl Street, but from time to time political hopefuls pass by to say hello and ask my two cents on their pending efforts.
St. Lawrence County Legislator Dave Forsythe (R-District 2) popped in with a friend this evening to talk about his pending run for the Republican nomination for Assembly in the 118th District, which stretches from Massena to Watertown.
Mr. Forsythe will vy with Ogdensburg Councillor Nick Vaugh in a primary and the winner will face one-term Member of Assembly Addie Russell of Theresa.
Tonight's visitor is a married father of three and an Ogdensburg insurance agent. He also owns a commercial hunting club where thousands of birds meet their maker every year.
Since he is from Lisbon, I asked if he knows John Moore...He did not....
He seems a solid, conservative business-oriented type with an understanding of issues. All of that begs the question of why does he want to waste those skills on an intransigent leftist body like the NYS Assembly.
Maybe he is an idealist. He did like my Palin stand-up, so that's a positive.
Dave does have ideas and we wish him well on his new endeavor.

Mayor Graham, It was nice meeting you and talking as well. I have not decided at this point but will let you know. I would just like to possibly give voters a choice in the upcoming election. I am a father of 3 as well as a grandfather this past summer. I believe government need more of a business perspective as well as some common sense. While returning from Albany and the rally to save OCF thought it would be nice to say hello. I enjoyed our conversation and look forward to more.

Come on Jefferey, why would he need to do such a thing?
No he doesn't.

Why does Reed need to stop by and see you?

I am interested in your answer

Forsythe is already part of a very disfunctional legislature in St. Lawrence County. They have been almost a year and a half with no contract with their employees. They dont have the guts to even impose a contract on them nor to cut the ones that are not needed (which there are a few). He can blame politics all he wants but the fact is SLC needs people who can stand up and lead not just sit and vote against everything. Taxes need to be stabelized and we have to lose some services and some overhead. I want someone who can lead and make things happen. I have my doubts that this gentleman can do it. On the up side however he is a very nice option to Nick Vaugh. At least Forsythe has gone agaisnt the statas quo on occassions while Vaugh has been a rubber stamp for Ogd. Mayor Nelson in a city thats downward trend has continued for several years . When you have a 5-2 majority on a council and cant get things done it reflects on your abilities. Vaugh is a failure as a politican.

Run Dave Run. Then we can all be rid of you from the St. Law. Co. Legislature where you do nothing and contribute even less.

I attended one of his very first legislative meetings and was astounded by a confrontation of his with one of his immediate neighbors. He come across as very arrogant and appeared to be trying to be above everyone else.. I have watched his voting however and he seems to be aware of the issues and expresses himself well If he worked on his people skills it would help. As far as a canidate I agree he is head over heels above the presently announced GOP canidate. This canidate in my opinion lacks any background or experience in any of lifes realities and his voting record on city council reflects this. In plain words a wannabe....

Why shouldn't he come see me...I live in the 118th, and I am a customer of his trash company.

I do not care about the arrogant crap. Where does he stand on sales tax, windmills and giving greedy unions raises. What about the river views. Does seem to be a outdoors person which is good and the business part is important. Where do i find his voting record?

Sales tax issue will soon be revealed as it has come up again. Windmills hasnt really been an issue in most areas of SLC except for Hammond, I dont care if he is a out door or indoor person and business part is irrelevant to me. I want a person who can be social enough that he can sit and listen to people and make decisions based on what he hears and feels. As far as a greedy union, This assumption has to come from him personally. It certainly isnt shared by the majority of legislators of SLC. This will be a very interesting statement and I,m sure he will have ample chance to explain it in the months to come. For anyone to sit in the minority and just say no to everything is wimpy. To be a leader and influence your collegues is another. on this he has failed.. His voting record is similar to Mr. Vaughs (poor)

Mr Forsythe is a weak political figure in SLC to say the least. His treatment of SLC employees is obvious. His voting record is negative and non productive to the legislature. If Vaugh and Forsythe are all the GOP can beg up in 118 just dont bother with an election and save our money and time. As far as his business endevors goes I dont have a clue about his insurance business but it dosnt take much to put a couple of birds out on a rope, but a target on them and charge people to hunt them. Is that what an outdoors person is

I take great exception to the statement greedy union.. This looks like something Forsythe would say.. Is Forsythe against the principals of people being able to organize and be in unions and state their positions on issues. He assuradly dosnt have the guts to stand up for the taxpayers and cut spending in the County. If these workers are not needed lay them off.. If they are needed pay them and be respectful of them.. Dont be two faced..The real answers up in SLC are cut services. Cut services already provided by the State.

I don't take exception to the greedy union. They are instrumental in trying to bring in a few part time jobs working for foreign wind companies. All at the expense of losing jobs in the tourism trade and causing home values along the Lake Ontario and St. Lawrence Shores to go down. I am thirty years union and angered by the attitude.

I believe it has nothing to do with greeding unions or any of the other BS I am reading. It has more to do with the big-spending Democratic majority in the St. Lawrence County Legislature. They just can't keep their hands out of the till. Absolutely no business sense - just spend, spend, spend. Unfortunately, the workforce will take the brunt of this ignoramous management.

I guess it like shopping in a store. You get what you pay for. Remember them in November.. Also if its of any interest Tom Nichols is debating running for the 118th. He appears to have gotten the blessing of the local GOP.

Anonymous said...

I disagree with your thought about Nichols. I know I heard Ms. Martin called him encouraging his run. This would give the appearance the GOP is unhappy with the announced canidate. Tom is still undecided. I wouldnt think he would give up his job close to home and family.

Mr. Forsythe and the SLC Legislators were voted down on a lopsided no vote by the SLC csea unit yessterday... If the County had been fair the one percent would have beena Accepted The big issue is health insurance contributions. If the County wanted to be fair they would ask for instance an employee to contribute a set figure which would be negotiated per contract each contract. Instead the County trys to have a percentage they can automatically raise each year without ever negotiating Also the County dosnt pay anything for their Health Insurance. They are self insured. They do pay the total cost of the Health bills. If they were to hire an insurance co. they could claim a cost.. The present system has the young and healthy employees footing the medical expenses of older Forsythe is one who voted to give the people nothing. Try the approach I just stated. Negotiate a rate yearly....
