Is GOP Senate Primary another 2009 for Republicans ?
Oswego County resident Eric Behling...brother of Jeff. County Legislator Mike Behling....is said to be considering a run for the GOP nomination in the 48th....That would put him in a primary against St. Lawrence County Clerk Patricia Ritchie.
The Valley News reports Behling is pro-life while Ms. Ritchie is said to be pro-choice. That could set up a schism in the GOP with more socially conservative members waging war against a moderate female, pro-choice Republican.
Last year Congressional nominee DeDe Scozzafava was labeled too liberal for the true believers and one wonders whether the same party cleansing may happen in a Ritchie-Behling primary.
My guess is that after Ritchie announces, the party "leaders" will try to tamp down Behling.....but last year that didn't work too well.
Also, how can Mike Long give her the Conservative line ? He will because winning the Senate is more important to him than abortion...at least I think it is.
Democratic Senator Darrel Aubertine lists himself as pro-life.

I think Patty Ritchie would be great for Senate and I will pray that the light of Jesus touches her and that she repents. Like scripture says, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you." God, not political parties, has banned abortion. I think she is a woman of faith and that she will show leadership by turning to Jesus and against abortion. This is a matter of faith and I hope the Democrats don't call her a flip flopper. Do you call a drug addict a "flip flopper" when he renounces an old sin and turns to Jesus? NO! I think the Democrats would be hypocrites if they go after Patty on this issue. Jesus forgives.
Mindy, Sen. Aubertine has never flip flopped on this issue. he is pro-life.
Who cares ? This state is sinking in debt and you worry about an issue a state senator cannot influence.
I am not voting for Aubertine because of the tax increases, but Abortion is an issue that effects ALL OF US! Its a national sin that all levels of government. Its NOT a partisan issue. The blood is on the hand of any politican or community leader that allows babies to be murdered in his community. ABORTION IS MURDER AND IT HAPPENES AROUND US EVERY DAY! We all have to stop it. Its bigger then politics! ITS MORAL!
Mindy I am not voting for Aubertine because he is in the pocket of foreign wind developers taking our money to create foreign jobs. Plans show wind turbines on his land.
The GOP is famous for finding and using "wedge" issues against DEMS and their own – issues that in most cases DO NOT matter to the vast population but appeal to their shrinking narrow base of angry voters who never discusses anything but those same old worn out issues that matter only to them and not the country as a whole.
They need to focus on leadership and problem solvers -- not more red meat divisive issues – but then again, maybe they like being in the minority?
Anon 12:51, you have no facts. There are not any plans with wind turbines on the Senators land. You are lying, I have seen the the maps of Cape Vincent and there will be zero turbines on his farm. Why don't you go to the Wind offices yourself and see, you don't have to take my word for it.
We can only hope the Party of No continues to weed, weeding itself to the brink of extinction, the remains gulped up by the Tea Party fringe. It is so much fun to watch them eating their own.
the issue of abortion was decided by a supreme court case, and will continue to be the law until another case comes along to challenge it. local politicians have no standing on the abortion issue. only a woman who got pregnant accidently gets an abortion. her business is none of mine.
Patty should run for Assembly first.
The Democrat is famous for finding and using "wedge" issues against the GOP. (Corrected for accuracy)
Local GOP leaders are trying to put the Behling fire out. Enforcement teams are out trying to twist arms and threaten committee people into submission to Ritchie only.
Have them cover it with duct tape.
Dannie, the reason your Donkey party has been successful of late is the fact that it has been able to convince people they can provide free stuff. Everybody wants free stuff. That's what you and most takers want, more free stuff. Now we have health care for 35million more people. Not only is it free, we will save money by providing it. As long as people are stupid enough to believe that free stuff is free there will be a great future for your Donkey party.
I'm happy for you, Dannie. Most all your stuff is now free. Your son is paying for it. He's paying for my free stuff too. Thank him for me.
