A Trip to Addies Office

I stopped over to Assemblywoman Addie Russell's Watertown office today. Had to drop of a request for member item funds as Russell staffer Ted Ford called me and asked us to put in a request.
The Russell office is very wide open with a nice sitting area that takes the edge off the institutional feel of the Dulles State Office Building. It's a lonely trip in as once you pass the guard at the front door and the SOB is devoid of people in the lobby and on the second floor where her office is.
When I entered the office the bald head of Mr. Ford was evident. From a distance. he looks like Don Rickles.
There was the sound of children and you could see toys scattered on the floor in what I believe was the Assemblywoman's office. The atmosphere was loose and friendly, not the dentist office feel you'd get when entering the office of some legislators.
I delivered my mail, exchanged pleasantries and offered some advice on the great issues of the day.

"member items" No wonder the state's going broke, Don't complain on the "soda tax" or any of the other taxes, the "member items" we love has to paid for somehow. Was the request for a fod pantry??

Is it a "Day Care Center"??

No, 5:18 PM, she's a working mother. ...and just like all working mothers, on occasion, we take our babies in to work with us as opposed to missing a day of work.

Must be nice to do that.

What, YOU can't do that?

I wonder if she could do that at her old job, you know, the lawyering gig.

I know where I work it's not allowed, the lawyering gig was a joke.

Why was it a joke? I thought she was a real lawyer, or are you saying that lawyer gigs in general are jokes?

I can bring my children to work when I'm in a daycare pinch. My employer would rather have me there instead of taking the day off because my babysitter is sick or what have you. As a matter of fact, I have quite a few friend who are able to do the same thing at their jobs. Is it any everyday type of situation--No. However, it does happen.

I don't understand why all employers can't be good to their working parents....this isn't just a "mom" thing. Lots of Dads get put into this position too.

Uh huh. All kinds of Mommies and Daddies can bring their kids to work when things are tight. Sometimes, when I'm feeling ill and I have problems with daycare, I just drop my kids off at work and go back home to get some rest. Sometimes I even drop off the dogs now and then. Its not every day but when I'm in a pinch, or, I have to do some shopping.

My employer always tries to be "good" to me, too.

Please God, when my time comes, bury me far, far away from idiots.

Can City workers bring there kids to work?????

Why absolutely. Just ask 12:11. Almost everyone these days can bring their kids on down to the factory. All state workers can do it. Policepersons and Firepersons, yup. You think that's mail in a mailperson's bag but it's really a child, learning about life. All teachers, except Gym, can do it. Pilots, soldiers, construction workers, bankers, retail sales, even Dannie Francis can bring his babies to work. If you've ever been to court you think that's an odd smell permeating the room, and it is. Someone needs a change, because someone came to work, because of LUV. It's the new world out there. Be happy all them barriers are broken down and peeeple come first and employers, especially 12:11's, are reeeely beginning to care.

A few years ago I was happy to spend my State Tax Dollars on a "Baby Nursery" At the SOB, where workers could take their little ones.
