Governor David Paterson told reporters today he is not resigning....he is running and that the only way he leaves the office in January is at the ballot box and the only way he leaves earlier is in a box.
The Governor dismissed and decried the media frenzy that includes assertions a major scandal will break and that he will be forced from office.
Governor Paterson strongly suggested the effort to stampede him coincides with his efforts to seek support for his election meaning it may all indeed be an effort to chase him from the race.
The Governors list of enemies is not short and includes potential rival Andrew Cuomo, the State Police who have publicly criticized him, and public employee unions angered over the prospect of budget cuts.
Paterson said he was interviewed by the NY Times for a story they are doing but was not asked about those matters the subject of recent new accounts, including marital infidelity, drug use and gambling.

Assume for a minute that the Guv is right in his asserations, and from what I've read at this point, I believe him. So what do we have?
"The worst kind of political smearing and shit-slinging in many, many years."
The Q is: Who and what machine is behind it?
I assure you it's far worse than a simple rumor mill product, or some shithouse rumor, or a wild-eyed blogger, or some fake journalistic "snooping."
It is far, far worse than that.
Stay tuned.
I agree wholeheartedly with Danny, minus the profanity.
What a coincidence. Our Gov is the only one standing up to the teachers' union, the public employees, and all the keep on spending folks who got us into this mess. Now he's the big target, while crooks like Shellgame Silver sits back and escapes pressure. This state is run by criminals. Every single elected official should be replaced. Watch this Monseratte thug. After carving up his girlfriend, he will be kept in the state legislature. And the state boys wanna give us more gun laws? Dan, this is where you and I will never understand each other.
Dan what happened for that pristine party of yours? Slinging such mud at one of their own?
I don't sling mud, and I don’t speak for the DEM party on such matter.
I may come down hard on a Pol in office now and then, but I only do so when I strongly disagree with them on policy or decisions or their voting record - not about their personal lives unless it crosses into a public policy area.
Many party operatives do sling tons of it, however, and this case against the Guv is a good example (or bad example depending on where you stand).
Monseratte outta get kicked out, and it looks like he may ... I also have called for the removal of Espada.
Doing what is right and not what is politically correct or politically expedient are my standards.
It is not hard to tell right from wrong - just ask your Mother or Grandmother.
Using the word "shithouse" rumor is an old military slip of the tongue - sorry if it offended you or anyone else. It is not profanity however. I guess I could have said "outhouse" rumor, but it wouldn't have been that funny, right?
Whatever, Dan.
As far as the other stuff, I agree with you. When you have one party rule as in NYC this is what ya get. Corruption.
