A commenter suggested Ogdensburg Mayor Bill Nelson may be in the hunt for the Assembly seat in the 118th....I hadn't thought about it but having seen the Mayor in O-burg last week leading a rally against the soda tax....and seeing the up-front role he has in the save the prison on-line petition...well I got to thinking maybe he is.
The three term mayor won by a scant five votes in 2007 in a three way race....but he is an attractive and well spoken public figure. Recent events may make his running more viable as Democrat Addie Russell is scrambling to save the prison, saying she will vote for no budget unless it is funded.
Mayor Nelson works at the local hospital last I knew...and I don't know if the Assembly is a step up or not...I also don't know how his bosses would like him running...but if he loses he gets to stay....And I don't know what his family thinks about it.
I do know he has been mentioned before and his recent posture would suggest it could be on his mind. He definately sounded like a candidate at the soda rally.
City Councillor Nick Vaugh has already announced for the GOP nod....But a Nelson candidacy would cause him to rethink.
Let's see if Bill denies it to the MSM.

Most likely he will run..
Wanted to some time ago but Patty Rritchie was more popular with voters..Nelson was so upset about Ritchie getting the nomination he supported Scott g'ray until the very end thus costing Ritchie the election agaisnt Aubertine. Nelson is not popular in Oberg any more so unlikely he would win on his credentials here. However he would be much more stable choice than Vaugh. Theres a guy with nothing to offer.
I read a comment recently that Nelson would run for 118 then support Vaugh for mayor. Powers would have been good choice for GOP for mayor butprobably will not run agin because of job complications. Vaugh has no job nor is there one in his future so that would present him no problem.
Nelson isnt running. Nelson will support Vaugh. We need a voice in albany and new ideas. Vaugh has demonstrated that hes a hard worker and is committed to his constituents.

It is a fact he gives great speaches and can charm the birds from the trees but the bottom line is there are no birds left in Oberg or area to charm. Oberg is dead in the water and hes the guy in the drivers seat. Used to be a great industrial town. Lost the Railroad and then lost industry. Lost their downtown and lost their integrity. Become a institutional community but now thats being threatened. I personally do not think he is qualified to run the City of Ober let alone represent us in Albany. He is however the GOPs most logical canidate. Let the posturing begin.

There will be a lot of choices later in the year that would do a good job. Nelson would be alright and probably do a good job. In the real world Addie has done a commendable job. Shes getting labeled for Pattersons suggestions but haws voted on none and publicly said she wouldnt . The other canidate is a fraud but he claims ot have round up fifty thousand in committments so far. Pepsi his Family and Gop if he gets the nod. I would really hate to see money for ads decide our future. If any person is realistic and veiws his general record in office can see he is a total failure.

Hey 11:38...what policy experience do you have exactly? Do you have any knowledge of what was included in the budget or do you just read GOP talking points and go spout off at the mouth on blogs? FACT: The increase in spending in last years budget was mostly due to stimulus funds that were spend it or lose it. FACT: There were numerous taxes and fees that were rejected in the final budget, it could have been much worse had Russell allowed those to remain in the budget. FACT: The state is now approximately 9 billion in the hole, had none of those taxes and fees been passed we would be about 15 billion in the hole, would you care to tell me how you would propose closing a 15 billion budget gap without devastating the North Country? I am sure you are going to fire back with a vague answer like "cut government" or "cut legislators salaries" but before you hit the "publish" button, think for a second how large of a number 15 billion dollars is, I can guarantee you cannot even understand the numbers let alone the policy. So before you go spouting off at the mouth, learn at least a few of the facts.

Patty is more than a glorified secretary. She oversees a substantial staff in the DMV, records, pistol licensing, etc. Albany is mess, worse than ever. And that is saying something. Reelecting the same people won't do. It's time to vote out all incumbent state lawmakers. None of them deserve reelection.

I dont think he will run but I can hope. I see some prospect with Nelson as the GOP canidate and some hope of winning. I am a Republican and probably would support him but I never under any circumstance support the present GOP announced canidate. Too many issues. just the air about him is phoney.

Forsythe is a pompus a-- with no political savy. Yes he is a business man but no people skills. Voted for contracts with county unions then changed his vote. However he started working full time for the county and might not be interested. Nichols is very well updated on issues and very popular inthe GOP. Not very popular in Oberg but who with brains is.

Would agree to some extent. He was not in my district for leg.I will support him if he decides to run. I agree with just about every vote he has made and puts the taxpayers first and seems to be the no man over there.
Vaugh too young and inexperienced. Will appeal to young voters but show me job skills and property tax struggles and I will have a better time appreciating. He should run against Burns, he seems to vote for everything the requires more money.Should be an easy target if he does his homework.

Tom Nichols was my leg and a great one. He cares about roads and puts taxpayers first. Think he is all set at county but was sure fun reading about him in the paper. Keep up the good work,
Encourage Forsythe to run and I think would be great. Sure would be hard for he has a couple businesses but these are the types of people we need to step up, and if he does he's got my support as well as a lot of others.

I think Vaugh would be a great choice. He's young and a hard worker. He seems very well informed on the issues I read in the papers and isn't blinded by the status quo. We need new leaders in Albany. I'm confident Vaugh can do well for us. We need a legilator who works for the people!

Vaugh is a GOP rubber stamp. No real life experience and very questionable voting record. Again how anyone who dosnt work or share in life experience can be labe;ed hard worker escapes me. He worked hard for Matt Deneny last year and in doing so skipped several meetings of the council. He works on whatever will benefit him. Once his diapers are thrown away and hes potty trained he might develop into a young aspiring politician.

The move at city council chambers was so the camera could be on him and you wouldnt see Nelson. However he still does the same thing.. Nothing.

In the last election Nelson lost many community influentials who formerly voted republican who supported a coalition team rather than either Nelson or the Dems party standard bearer .
ONLY BLOCK VOTING BY THE CO"S who by the way Supported the expensive Sexually Violent Predator facility ( to their current detriment ) saved Nelson from defeat .
Nelson won by a LANDSLIDE a mere five votes in a 3 way race .
Since that election things have only deteriorated in OGDENSBURG DUE TO A TOTAL LACK OF QUALIFIED LEADERSHIP
There is a need for new leadership not the same old tired gripping and grinning wannabes.
We are in a bad situation, financially. Both the state and the nation. I don't blame Russell for putting us in this situation. I do, however, believe we need people with backbones and courage to make decisions to get us out of this. She ain't it. She is a Silver go along. And he should be in jail for what he has done to this state. This isn't about party, it is about lying. We cannot continue to spend what we do not have. I support Darrell. I cannot support Addie. I believe in his honesty and willingness to make tough decisions. I believe she is a fool with no courage whatsoever. Nice person, just not someone you want in a position of influence.
