Hoffman Campaign Releases GOP Primary Poll

It looks like a GOP Congressional Primary is in the offing as Doug Hoffman has released a poll show him (OMG) the overwhelming favorite of Republicans. This looks like an intention to run to me and Hoffman will face off against Jefferson County businessman Matt Doheny and possibly Assemblyman Will Barclay.
A look at the internal numbers provided shows Hoffman with the best name recognition and Will Barclay the second choice, likely because his Assembly district is in Oswego County and his family name is well known in portions of NY23. His unsuccessful State Senate run seems to weigh on his popularity.
Matt Doheny scores as a virtual unknown and while he has made himself known to party activists, the broader audience has no knowledge of him. He needs to get some cable ads up throughout the district to build recognition and street cred. As a fresh face and a younger candidate than Hoffman, he could carve out the niche as a more forward looking candidate. Maybe Matt needs a pickup truck.
As for Hoffman, despite a good job last year coming out of nowhere to get 46%, he needs to resolve the residency issue as there is one local newspaper readying a
12-part award-winning series about carpetbagging.

But, the DEMS won't have one, right - no party supporters will pass around petitions for any DEM... so Owens, like Gillibrand gets a free pass?

I see, I see DEM and democracy - not necessarily the same?

What a bogus poll! Check out Grindstone Financial for an analysis.

Where would Hoffman been in a poll a year ago?
Dede would have been in first place, and look where she is now.

you mean Jefferson County Carpet-bagger Matt Doheny right? wait until the goods come out on that guy... you're not going to want to be associated with it Mayor.

There is no Constitutional requirement that a Congressman live in his District - only that he live in the State he represents. The District may be redrawn every 10 years after the Census, so it would make no sense to require Congressmen to live in their District anyway.

Then I should represent Long Island. [rolls eyes]

Hoffman's poll is laughable. I have yet to speak to a single republican who thinks this guys is worth the paper his name is printed on. Put Hoffman up in a debate against Doheny and this position will be over. Hoffman is a political disgrace who represented an idea in 2009, that is it...the candidate himself is an embarrassment. Hoffman is a joke and as soon as the right wing/republican world can agree upon that, the sooner we will have a republican representing the 23rd district. So if Long and others still want to stand behind Hoffman, a proven loser, then the republican party will continue to lose and we will be taxed up the wazoo and have government restrictions up the wazoo and have organized labor controlling the shots and have taxes sky rocket and have a crappy left wing nightmare telling us what we can and cannot do. If you want that, support Hoffman, please be mindful and compromise and support a wise moderate republican like Doheny.

Mayor, you're obvious contempt for Hoffman and Barclay is palpable. This poll shows clearly that Republican voters want a conservative not a moderate. I agree that his special election race has ginned up a lot of that name ID, but I'm not sure Doheny could buy that kind of popularity. Barclay is the only one with a shot at overtaking Hoffman, but even that is a long shot.

Goodness, Paul Maroun had a higher name ID than Matt Doheny and Matt's been spending tens of thousands for six months trying to get known. That is about all I'd need to know.

Run Forest, run!

Matt has not been spending money to be known by the voters yet. He is trying to ingratiate himself with the politicians first to get their support before introducing himself to everyone else. I would not have expected him to do well with voters yet. That is why the campaign is more than 9 more months long...

The Hoffman poll means nothing. Hoffman is the only one that anyone knows, especially amongst the age bracket that seemed to be targeted in this poll. So silly.
