Dainty Harold Ford Jr of Tennessee.....He was acquainted to New York State when his dad bought a home in the tony Hamptons of Long Island.....He moved to NY and lived in Manhattan while visiting the best restaurants and riding to work in limos.
Now Harold Ford Jr. is on a listening tour of NY State in advance of an expected run against Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. Gilly was at home upstate in Columbia County, where she used to sleep with a gun under her bed.
Gilly got roughed up by the NYC liberals and isn't quite the upstater she used to be.
As for Harold, he wants to meet upstate.
This week he went to Rockland County....a well-to-do county just barely north of the City that never sleeps.
As Mao said, the longest march starts with one step and the stepford wives suburbia of Rockland was likely a big step for him.
Spacious country homes and dressed down former Manhattanites is not the down and dirty trailer-park-strewn upstate that folks like Harold or Ed Koch have trouble with.
Harold, buy a pickup truck and start driving north. Skip the handlers and just stop by towns like ours....
The old carpet towns like Amsterdam.....the former photo capital of the world, Rochester......post industrial Buffalo....check out wine country....the windmills of course....pet a cow....see the blue-lined poverty of the Adirondacks and the upscale life in Saratoga.
Visit Albany and see America's most dysfunctional legislature, but dont miss the building with RCA's Nipper perched on top.....
Most of all Harold, see upstate....in person and not from a black limo traveling only within sight of the Thruway......
See you at Mo's diner Sunday morning.

NYS seems to cater to reversed carpet baggers, kennedy, clinton, now ford - you should bring him to Watertown, so he can see what is really ment by "UpPSTATE" NY.
Our on-line, dedicated internet based newspaper (we produce no hard copy) is based in a region of New York State that many of us living here refer to as the real location for the designation of Upstate New York... Poughkeepsie is down state from our perspective, Albany is… well… the Capital District (still down state, again from our perspective, but yet north of Poughkeepsie). The Syracuse region is Central New York, Buffalo and Rochester is in Western New York; but yet when you watch CNN, Fox News, CBS and other national broadcasters, they continually refer to anything happening north of the Bronx, no matter what part of New York State the event being discussed is happening in, as somehow being part and parcel of a much abused defined area… Upstate New York.
It’s like finger nails being dragged on a chalk board to hear Hyde Park, New York; referred to as being Upstate New York. It’s almost as if many national newscasters believe that the sun orbits the earth… rather than the other way around.
It’s as if all that is important to know about New York’s diverse geography is that the Big Apple is the center of everything and that every other region or location within New York, loosely defined as Upstate New York, somehow orbits around this famous city… everything and anything north of the City is of secondary relevance (importance?), in orbit around the Big Apple. Ask any Upstate New York politician how true this statement is.
If you can take a moment and picture in your minds eye the mapping of New York State, like looking at cloud formations and picking out shapes… New York looks like a ‘Near knee high’ shoe worn by ladies in the early 20th century… Far Western New York is the ‘Toe’ region of the shoe, Albany is the ‘Ankle’, New York City and Long Island represent the ‘Broken High Heel’ of the shoe (I like that thought, the ‘heel’ part)… the true visual of Upstate New York is where people used to tie off the ends of their shoe laces… way up towards the top of the shoe.
Because of the irrational labeling by national pundits and newscasters of anything north of New York City as somehow being Upstate New York… we up here in what is truly Upstate New York have been forced into using the designation where we reside as being… The North Country… which largely comprises what is known as New York’s 23rd Congressional district. Think Dede Scozzafava, Bill Owens and Doug Hoffman; North Country residents.
Thanks for the geography lesson Scott. I would like you to make a PR package with a NY state map delivered to leading NY State pollsters and NYC TV stations. Being from St. Lawrence County and now living near Poughkeepsie, I'm really confused when an anchorwoman grounds a breaking story with a serious face in a courthouse in upstate NY (White Plains).
Say Ford comes here, kowtows to a few "hot shots" - then what, that makes it okay to run?
Coming here is nothing compared to the entire state... the issues should matter - will they? Do they? Not around here... name, fame and fortune and a call on the Mayor is what matters, right?
This is a funny post....Ford does he realy drive in a chevy taho soon he will be if it wiil get him elected....
Maybe if he talks to Juston, he'll push for more school aid, Cause he can't spell.
