Doheny On the March

With a large campaign war chest, the MSM asks the question, 'Is Matt Doheny running for Congress ?'
One could surmise that's the case, but alas this political observer doesn't have to read tea leaves simply because I know he is running.
How do I know....Because he told me.
Doheny is not coy about it, and if you don't believe just ask the operatives you are likely to see him with.
His finance report lists one staffer and one consultant.
I guess I missed an opportunity over the years.
Anytime somebody came to me with questions on process or strategy, I just gave them the answer to the best of my ability.
I didn't know that in a market this small people got paid for their opinions.
My advice would be to continue to display the trappings of a campaign and do some TV to get your numbers up.
Priority number one is get this down to a two way race with Doug Hoffman and then win the primary by having the party organization on your side.
Funny thing about Will Barclay. He is in many ways a good candidate, but when you talk to GOP folks , he is all of a sudden a non-starter (or worse). And this is among people who a couple of years ago proclaimed him to be the Second Coming.
He is talked about now as yesterday's news among Watertown's political cognoscenti
Now, my advice to Doug Hoffman would be buy a house in Saranac Lake, get some coaching on speaking and television, raise money off your national persona and do an end-run around the county chairs and insiders who are likely to oppose you.
You mean there are people getting paid for this kind of off-the-cuff punditry.
This is a great country.

Dear Jeff, the five people you talk about that think Barclay is a "non-starter" doesn't mean it's true. Your crusade against Will and his family is so transparent it's laughable. I live not far from you and voted for Will vs Darrel and will support him this time around as well.

While I'm here, I might as well point out how hypocritical you are with your blatent support of Doheny. Here's a guy who moves back to your area and you've made him your favorite son - why, probably because he's paying you. I've already heard he's paid others to support him as well. MY VOTE CANNOT BE BOUGHT, but aparently my Mayor's can be.

Doheny is the GOP's best hope. Young, but mature. Smart and independent but with Republican and small "c" conservative North Country values.
He's the future.
Wil Barclay, through no fault of his own other than birth, represents the past of the GOP. Times (including he influence of the WDT) have changed..... sorry, dads Doug and senior. Gone are the days of Clint Marsh and Co., including John McHugh. GOP now stands for the Gone Ol' Party.
Period.

Wow..............soooo right on! Talk among the real players....
Doheny is slowly, but with care and a lot of thought, building a strong team of advisors and supporters. All heavyweights with no hidden agendas except a dedication to good government. With any luck, DF and Jude will be asked to be Owens' campaign managers. The clueless leading the clueless.

10:41 Nice post I see it about the same..

Jeff ticks me off all the time. But you won't find any evidence that his support has been "bought". That's not the way he operates. To claim otherwise is simple cheap shop politics. If you have any specifics, I'd be glad to hear them. But there won't be. Unless you want to continue with the personal attacks, 10:26, I'm sure we won't hear much more of substance from you.

525 - well, our dear Mayor isn't the first person that I've heard is on Doheny's "hidden payroll" that's what makes me wonder who is exactly making the puppet dance. I've seen reported that Graham Wise is running Doheny's campaign - why then isn't he listed? Do you honestly think he's volunteering his time? I've also seen several other people around Doheny's "office" in Watertown...there's a second payroll out there folks.

I don't trust this Wall Street, big money man for one second and no amount of threats will shut me up.

Oooo, now wez have the "hidden payroll", followed by absolutely no evidence whatsoever. The fact that you don't trust someone is not evidence. You were not threatened. You were simply invited to provide backup information for an accusation you made. You failed.

If you like the Barley's so much, maybe you are the one on the HIDDEN PAYROLL. Or maybe they're gonna let you fish on their river.

11:54 - "fish on their river"...gee wonder where you got that gem. Doheny's campaign using Aubertine's slogans to knock Barclay...classic strange bedfellows reference here.

I'm not even wild about the "Barley's" I just respect the man for standing up to the smear campaign that Aubertine and now Doheny have lobbed at him. Will is at least willing to do things the right way and I hope he not only formally gets in, but wins this race.

FYI...I voted for Hoffman in the special.

5:27pm: You assume that all pro-Doheny commentary on blogs is coming from the Doheny campaign. No one from the Doheny campaign has ever mentioned anything about Barclay and the river. Most bloggers are not campaign staffers, they are just regular folks with an interest in politics. So "Doheny's campaign using Aubertine's slogans to knock Barclay" is a bit of an assumption, don't you think???

Hoffman had a great comment in Sunday's paper, that Obama's campaign promise to have the health care debate held out in the open and that Washington politicians rerely intend to honor those campaign promises. from p 7 of the weekly section.
With his comment in mind, I would like to know whether Mr Hoffman intends to honor any of HIS campaign promises, or whether he will find a way to back out of them, as he tags the others for doing. Be careful what you promise, Mr Hoffman.

Hoffman is such a bad candidate and a bad politician...two often very different things. I really hope he just fades away. Every time he speaks, or in this case, writes anything, he makes mistakes. Again and again and again. I don't want to make another mistake and have him on the ballot in November.

OK 5:27, now you're talking about what you lik about Barclay. That's a lot different than hidden payrolls. I don't have a problem with liking Barclay. But meaningless cheap shots with nothing to back it up is baloney. Stick to the topic and throw in a fact now and then and we will be fine.

"we will be fine..." like there is going to be a problem. This is an anonymous blog people - relax.

It just get a bit boring when people cite their imaginations when attempting to provide evidence. Remember, this began with a "hidden payroll".

Just because this is an anonymous blog doesn't mean you shouldn't try to tell the truth, once in a while. I'm relaxed. I just have to point out when people are telling stories.
