Harry Reid Wins....Gets 60th Vote as Blanche Lincoln Caves

Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) provided that last little bit of drama with her last minute announcement she will vote for the cloture petition and put Sen. Harry Reid's health care bill up for debate. While its called a procedural vote, it really ensures passage of a version of the Reid bill as only 51 votes will be needed for that.
Lawmakers in need of political cover will then be allowed to vote no. In other words....they can vote for it before they vote against it.
The cloture vote will be held tonight and the Democrats are unanimously in favor while GOP senators are all against it.
For Senator Lincoln there really was no choice. The party is what put you there and there are just some times you have to suck it up and do what the party wants.
The Arkansas Democrat says she opposes a public option, but her vote today pretty much ensures that is what happens.

Yes Mam, and your constituents will on the matter be d$#%^d! Never mind what is right, never mind the cost in dollars, never mind the cost in poorer service, never mind Government control over our medical choices. The party says it shall be so and you shall obey. This passage of the government controled health care plan against the will of the vast majority of the citizens of this country is an act of Treason.

actually, today's vote is only the vote to begin debate. there will have to be another filibuster-able vote to end debate, so today's vote hardly ensures passage.

No one caved – they were bribed (Landrieu’s $100 mill) ... I think you call it "Politics as usual" around here, right? Or just good government and “access” at work – eh?

LOL

All seriousness aside, the fact of the matter is that a bill of this magnitude and importance SHOULD be allowed to come up for full floor debate, and then if it goes down, it goes down — at least the process worked.

But, for A-holes like Lieberman, Lincoln, Landrieu, Nelson and few others (including the ENTIRE GOP) to go against the will of the people is flat out wrong. And, yes it is against the will of the people. About 70 + percent want a public health care option.
