Local and state GOP leaders are blasting their party's Congressional candidate who in the end threw the race to the Democrat after realizing she was likely to finish a distant third. Jefferson Chair Don Coon says he had held his nose when campaigning for her and state chair Ed Cox says Scozzafava listened to her labor boss husband instead of friends in the party. This Politico piece tells the tale that will likely lead to sanctions on Monday.

Don Coon needs to step down!!! He is part of the problem.
He just got the chair
Tom's stock pick is now worth 00000000002.
these Graham posts-mortem remind some of us that while we have an interest in politics, we would certainly not subject ourselves to the abuse that goes with being a candidate. Coon held his nose? What a hole he is to say that about a respected representative.
Republicans= the party of NO respect
Cockroaches are cannibals too, and there still here after 350 million years ago (or) 6,500 years. The answer depends on whether your educations was based on every book ever written (or) just one single book.
I think at this point DeDe could give a rats ... I would file it under Who cares.
A lot of that kind of cross endorsement is going on by the confused Republicans. In Cape Vincent, the Republican party chairs, Marty Mason and Bob Chapman endorsed the Democrats just as the campaigns were getting under way.
But, Mr. Coon came to town and threw his support behind the Republican choices, riled up the local GOP, and the Republicans ended up winning big except for one race, undecided, but may go the GOP way when the absentees are counted.
All future GOP candidates should be very leery of the "Coon Dog" and those tactics...
I love it.
isn't coon a racist term ?
"coon dog" refers to a dog that has the skill to hunt racoons - a delacy in many southern states.
But, yes, it became a racist term over time and grew out of the idea and reality that the same 'coon/hunting' dogs were also used to hunt down runaway or fugitive "Negroes" as Afro-American were called in the old nasty days ... then it become derogatory. It should not have.
coon held his nose! what the HELL does that mean? sounds like this GOP leader should take a trip to one of those manure piles that the farmers have out back and take a swim.If this moron is what the GOP has representing them, then I think the democrats in this area are pretty safe.the conservative republicans are in big trouble if thats all they got is this fool picking there candidate.
There is Coon Cheese, too, that used to be manufactured in Cape Vincent and Philadelphia, Pa. According to a WDT article of 1928, the famous cheese which was packaged in black wax was sold in 1928 to a co-op and became one of the famous Kraft Brands until someone declared it racial.
My Dad who worked for the Coon company as a young man claimed the famous Coon cheese process was invented by E. Coon who summered here, made cheese here and had relatives who settled and lived here. In my travels, I learned that the Coon cheese process is still used around the world and the Coon Cheese brand and process is alive and well.
Now all this is a diversion from politics, but more fun than making everything racial including Mr. Coon's "cheesy" name.
"THE Don" is dead on right. Conservative Republicans have been holding our noses for a long time. Dede, Wright, and McHugh were all moderate at BEST.
Dede rightfully has a target on her head (politically speaking). She may as well switch parties, no loss to Republicans.
Coon is kickin' ass and takin' names............I like that
Former Gov Pataki had alot of nerve sticking His liberal Nose in this race. Please for crying out loud most Republicans in Jeff Co. are liberals. just look at the legislators. The only Conservative is St Croix.
Hey 7:03 you're right there all liberals, and the next assignment is tell me what they have accomplished over the years, (spending money, getting your son or daughter a job at DSS doesn't count)
This is not gunna be settled for some time..Don Coon still does things to help from making sure the mailers are going out to going on the road for the local canidates
the democrats now have... Billy,Kristen,Darrell,Addie the job is up to them.lets see how they can do it's called all the weights are on there shoulders some say who cares what they do. Im paying attention you all should do the same, these times we are in are not to be hate full but hopefull.Republicans are rising all over this country the Democrats are under the micro scope........
Juston
All these hot button topics and personal assessments of Dede and other and such are all good "side dish" topics that make for good fodder for our forums, but in the end, we are still stuck with the same old same old kind of Reps. in office - promise the mine, hand over the shaft ... change, right?
Well, maybe like nickle and dime kinda change, or "short-changed" might be better.
This is just the natural shift of power, it's dueling parties, both fight, get nothing done, blame the other one, and the taxpayer pays.
