It was a great story about the balloon flight. As a retired commercial balloon pilot with over a thousand hours in balloons, I enjoy the history of the oldest form of flight.
However, the balloon they flew was not a hot air balloon as declared in Mr. Shampine's headline and article. It was a hydrogen balloon. Hot air or "smoke" balloons were only capable of a few minutes flights in those days. But hydrogen balloons must have been a thrill since they were like flying in a big bomb.
