With DeDe a Shoo-in, Who Gets Her Assembly Seat ?

I am not on their press release list, but I read a blurb somewhere today about the regional chairs being appointed to run Diedre Scozzafava'a Congressional campaign. Seems like she is doing something and with time dwindling I don't see much organizationally from the other two designees of their parties.
With Scozzafava certain to win the Congressional race, we are within bounds starting to speculate about who should run for a special election in the 122nd Assembly District. It won't be a high dollar race because nobody cares whether there are 41 or 42 GOP lawmakers in the heavily Democratic Assembly.....But hey its a good gig for somebody and names are floating.Legislature Chair Ken Blankenbush is a favorite...There is a Lewis County lawmaker named Lucas said to be in the hunt.
If you have names of contenders, please put them in the comment section....

Jefferson County

If Ken is the favorite we are all in trouble in the 122nd. Stop listening to your florist friend.

As if the florist friend wants Ken in there. He wants who Wright wants and Wright still needs to take care of his boy Renzi. I hear he still needs a few pension credits.

All because a few of us actually think Darrel is a good guy and a good representative, our party is fracturing between the realistic and the bitterly partisan.

Ken is teetering between those two worlds, but seems more on the realistic side where us voters are.

Vote Darrel for Senate, Phil Reed for 118 and Ken or a reasonable Dem (i.e. anybody but Renzi) for 122. Let them work together and do more for us.

Hasn't Dave learned his lesson. Twice he has been beat. Plus Mr. Renzi just told the party he wouldn't run for election in District 11 cause he just had his third child. What Dave isn't District 11's seat good enough for you??? One month later you want the 122nd??? Not going to happen.

is DeDE really a SHOO-in? (note the correct spelling....) I have confidence that Owens can rally the support he needs to win. Dede is much more of an asset to the NC where she is, and doesn't risk the redistricting problem later. IMHO.

How about the Burto Lad??, or AJR have any relatives in that area?, Doesn't matter if there Democrat or Republican, no difference in the two parties there both corrupt.

I have to wonder why you or anyone else would NOT want a DEM in the majority Assembly to "bring home the bacon?"

Just because one party can win and dominate (GOP normally up around here) does not mean they necessarily should always run JUST a GOP candidate ... who would be in a minority slot ... that's not much power.

But, hey, that's just me thinking out loud.

I heard that Brian McGrath - the guy who finished second to Owens for the Congressional nomination may be interested. His campaign for congress had gathered a lot of grass roots support prior to his party picking a Republican over him. He lives in Lowville and would be a breath of fresh air. He certainly knows the local dairy issues.

McGrath still has not taken down his website for congress - www.mcgrathforcongress.com - so clearly he is weighing political options. And he has been awfully quiet since they picked Owens, never stating publicly that he supports him, to the contrary his comments in the Politicker from the night Owens was picked suggest he was none to pleased with his party. My guess is that he likes Dede but cannot say that publicly.

Interesting theory 8:39. I just checked his ActBlue account, and he had 60 supporters who have donated. Owens, the guy they picked has 61. McGrath has more than $16k in that account alone - not bad for a guy not running for anything at the moment.

If Blankenbush was a true leader he would be calling for cuts now. 2010 is going to be a rough year and he could make changes now that would benefit all of us. BUT HE ISN'T to look good for a shot at Assembly.
McGrath has a couple of problems. One he is already back to NYC. and unlike the congressional race he must be a resident of the 122nd for one year prior to the election. He hasn't been so he cannot run.

I guess McGrath's eligibility depends on when a special would be called. With his website still up and active, I'd be surprised if he had changed his residence back to NYC already.

This is the message posted on McGrath's website, doesn't sound like he is ready to run for the Assembly to me:

Dear Friends & Supporters:

I am disappointed to report that I came up a little short and finished second out of 12 candidates at the Democratic nominating convention on Monday night. While this means that I will not be the Democratic congressional candidate in the upcoming special election in the 23rd election this fall, I am very proud of the campaign we ran. I firmly believe that we were onto something in this campaign and that this represents but a temporary set-back. We have a lot of reason to believe that what we set out to accomplish together - to bring about serious reform of our government and advance a progressive, positive agenda of growth and opportunity for all - is well within our reach.

I thank all of you for your amazing support of this campaign. I do not know what is in store for me in the future, but should I ever re-enter the political arena again, I sincerely hope that you will still be there with me fighting to improve our government by advancing our ever important progressive, reform agenda.

Again, thank you all so very much!

All the best,
Brian

I highly doubt McGrath will run for the Assembly. But I did hear that he really impressed the Dem chairs who ultimately picked Owens. I've heard he is an amazing public speaker and pretty smart. And don't underestimate his wealth of support in Lewis County, which makes up a large part of this District. But again, from what I've heard, he isn't interested in running for Assembly.

I heard the local chairs wanted to pick McGrath, but the national Dems made them pick Owens for some reason. My guess is that instead of running for the Assembly, in disfunctional Albany, and instead you will see him surface in the 2010 23rd race when voters, not political bosses get to choose candidates.

2010 NYS senate race. Griffo vs McGrath.

That makes more sense than McGrath running for an Assembly seat where Dems already have huge margins. In the Senate, he could give the Dems the room to dump that dirtbag Espada! But will we need to draft McGrath? Again, I'm skeptical that he would want to enter the dysfunction of Albany. JMHO

Didn't Behling primary Dede 2 or 3 election cycles ago?

He might be looking for another paper pushing job.

How about the ex-director of Emergency management office, Hey at least he'd be with the rest of his kind. THIEVES

I was one of the "observers" in the room for the Dem nomination convention for the 23rd race. Trust me, McGrath is a very impressive person. He blew away the field in most peoples opinion, but seemed like he lost to Owens because the national Dems had annointed him and they tried claiming McGrath was too young. Nonsense, but that's what happened. From watching McGrath, he would be a great advocate for the area- very populist and in touch with the farming community. But I'm doubtful an Assembly seat would peak his interest. Too bad really.

Don't be so sure that Scozzafava will prevail . Her accomplishments are certainly not the stuff of greatness. She has no vision, lacks charisma and represents the same TIRED OLD POLITICS OF THE PAST -- many folks are damn tired of bloviating pols ,

Anonymous said...

Lacks charisma? Have you seen Owens? Paint drying is more exciting.

And Hoffman looks like a deer in headlights every time he is speaking.

Anonymous said...

Her problem is she is part of the Albany mess and has done NOTHING !

The definition of insanity is to keep electing the same people and expect change to occur!

How about Dede's husband?? He's a labor leader, not doing much these days, How about Sampie Sutton,?
