Afghan War Is Nine Years Old and Not Going Well

With so many members of our Fort Drum family in harm's way in Afghanistan, it is disconcerting to read the national leadership is conceding the situation there is getting worse, not better. This war is now seen as a dubious venture by a majority of Americans, according to recent surveys.

Where does the Taliban get it's endless supply of RPG's and AK-47's?
And which emerging world power benefits? Bush allowed 8 1/2 years of American stupidly borrowing the money from this 'country' to go deeper in debt. And after just 6 short months President Obama is finally letting Americans know what took the Russian people 10 years to find out.

Mullen is an egg-head, non-warrior...from CA's San Fernando Valley...a place famous for valley girls and the porn industry. What a great choice of Joint-Chiefs. Our military is losing its edge day by day with the likes of him in the leadership's chain of command.

Afghanistan? Where's that? Oh, yeah, the place we gave back to the people when we kicked out the Taliban in late 2001 and that allowed for elections so women could vote and little girls could go to school.

I know; I heard our former president tell us that... just before we invaded Iraq.

They are the prototype for the "new ME," I think he implied.

That Afghanistan you mean, right?

Based on the old USSR model of defeat at the 10-year mark ...

Has it been worth all the disruption, the torn and broken bodies, the shattered families, the upheaval? Have we convinced the world we are The Superpower with the right answers? Have we brought bin Laden to justice? Have we accomplished our original mission? Have we learned anything?

If we pack up and leave both Iraq and Afghanistan, I guarantee you that those who want a country (either one) will get that country - and then what?

A good operating base - or a place to bomb from the air whenever we want to, but never put boots on the ground... kinda like Somalia or a few other places?

Sh*t, why not?

Funny it was OK when the US was outfitting the rebels when the soviets were there with stinger missles and captured AK's.
